Decent logic Lifeline. However Burmistrov's probably worth a 3rd round pick at the most.
Would you trade 15th overall for 17th and a 3rd?

Thats fair, but I think it comes down to whether or not you think the jets will get a better offer. I feel as though yes we could get him cheaper and throw our hats in with everyone else but it doesn't guarantee us Burmistrov. If we could get him for a 4th or a pick around there I would be 100% down for that but I don't see a difference within the 14-18 range in regards to the quality of the prospects that you would expect to see available unless of course someone falls which is my hope for the Flames of course.

I went to a few Jets games in that past when Burmistrov still played for them and I did see some flashes of brilliance. The only thing that scares me is his attitude. It seems to me that the Flames are building a very locker room conscience team and I support that, I think that is a very good foundation to build a team. So if the team were allowed to speak to him and judge his current character and they deemed it satisfactory then I would says yes move the two picks down. I believe it would be worth it. We aren't technically losing a pick as opposed to trading away a 3rd or a 4th we would be moving within similar range of what we already had. I really only see the trade happening if the jets have a special attraction towards one of Connor, Merkley, Konecny, White, or Shechnikov. I think if he tops out at top 9 forward we won the trade.

Not to mention historically the 05-11 drafts give a similar type of player during the availability that the Flames have in the upcoming draft, if you ignore the 3 or so stars that were picked at around that mark (E. Karlsson, K. Shattenkirk, V. Tarasenko).

Why do we want a guy that is not an upgrade on anything we have? I mean seriously, it makes zero sense for us.

  • Burmistrov is clearly a me first type player and not a team first type player. This goes against what we are trying to build.
  • Burmistrov is a LH shooting center that sucks on faceoffs and is not overly physical.
  • At 6'1, 180 Burmistrov doesn't add any size down the middle.
  • In each of his last 2 seasons he was 3rd and 4th among Jets forwards in giveaways.
  • Burmistrov plays a perimeter game and doesn't go to the dirty areas.

I don't care if it only costs us 2 spots in the draft, even if you ignore the obvious character flaws the guy brings nothing we don't currently have. We need to add guys that play a "heavy" game, we need to add a sniper, we need size down the middle, we need a power forward, we need a top 6 RW. He addresses none of those issues.

There is zero reason for the Bruins to move Marc Savard at the cost of a 2nd rounder. They will just keep him buried on LTIR. I also am not sure that the Kings will give up this years 1st to move Richards when they dont have next years 1st. Id much rather see the Flames try and move Raymond, 15th and possibly a 2nd for the Jackets 8th and Clarkson if the Flames are picking up a contract.

I think it's pointless for the Flames to trade up 7 spots to take on a contract like Clarkson's. Would much rather pick up Columbus' 2nd and their 2016 2nd for next year if we are taking on Clarkson's contract.

Either that, or Columbus needs to add their their 2nd with their first so moving up 7 spots isn't as pointless than it should be. Clarkson's contract is bad.

The often injured Ryan Wilson? I'd rather have Schlemko. Ehrhoff is also a waste on the 3rd pairing.

About the draft Zacha gonneth?

Ehrhoff would have every opportunity to push Russell down and would get PP time.

I prefer Rantanen to Zacha

As long as we sign Andrej Sekera I am happy with the team we have. Try Raymond out on the RW for one more season and then ponder moving him. If he becomes a cap dump a year from now its more likely we can move him since he only will have a year left. If we actually can use Raymond to acquire a cap dump for a high pick then so be it but I dont see any GM making that trade so I will go with what I think will happen. Personally I think Raymond and Colborne could use one more season to see how they fit, but if they both dont make an improvement this season we need to make a move for a top 6 RW and let Poirier take the 3rd line RW.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bennett - Backlund - Colborne
Bouma - Stajan - Jones
Ferland/Bollig - Jooris - Raymond
Shore

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Sekera
Schlemko - Wideman
Engelland

FF18, as much as I love Sekera and his game, I don't see him signing with us to get 3/4/5th defenseman minutes and probably signed for only 2-3 years (Treliving will not sign a UFAer for longer than 3 years).

If I was Sekera, I would be signing with LA: Get a great city to play for, Most likely get term, #2/3 minutes and potentially being paired with Doughty.

Not sure I'd bother with Clemmensen. I'd just re-sign Thiessen.

**** no to Richards. No. Just no. I'm leaning towards no on the Ward/Hiller trade. It looks pretty bad if we go dealing Hiller after how he did for us this year. I'd pass on Savard.

Love the fact that you put Rantanen, Sprong, and Wotherspoon in here. I'd really like to try and get Christian Fischer. I'd also take Ryan Shea if he's still around come round 6. Lastly, I'd like to look at Tim McGauley in the 7th round. Was very impressed with him, I think he could be a late bloomer.

He's going to get himself some serious pay. He's arguably the only top pair (#2/#3) left on the market after the Habs locked Petry up long term.

I don't know if Calgary should be in the market of adding another 5.5+ million dollar contract to the mix on the backend. Although, being honest:
Brodano
Russell - Sekera

That top 4 is pretty stacked, especially when you factor in that Wideman would be playing on the bottom pair too.

Pay Sekera, dump Wideman at deadline if out or next offseason if in. An additional 1-2 million for a much better defenseman who is a bit younger.

Brodie is locked in very cheap right now, Engelland will be gone in 2years, Russell wont get more than 4.

If we are looking at it strictly from an asset management standpoint, there is no better time to move Wideman than this draft given the season he just had. His value will never be higher again.

Well, the other side of the coin is that all the teams that might be interested in Wideman might not want to make a move to acquire him until they are out of the bidding to sign Sekera.

That's very true.

Tons of teams that need a RHD defenseman. Detroit would probably be #1 on the list, they'd definitely pay up a 1st to get Wideman since they draft so well in later rounds.

2015 first would be a great start..

Including Calgary. I don't see Wideman being dealt.
Actually, I don't think we do. Brodie is more comfortable on the right side, Wideman is a RHD and so is Engelland. Brodie-Wideman-Engelland down the right side is a pretty decent right side. If anything we need a mobile LHD to play with Engelland, now the question should be do we target someone to play with Engelland, or do we target someone to play with Wideman and have Russell play with Engelland. I would prefer the latter.

Also, with Sekera, Green & Franson all on the market and able to be gotten for nothing more than $$$ and cap space the market for Wideman wouldn't pick up for a while.
