Yeah, that very average defenseman is really missed. Well, no, because they got another just as average defenseman to replace him, so there's that, I guess.

Marincin is a better hockey player than Gryba, full stop. While he is not considered to be better than Gardiner by most Toronto fans the consensus on their board appears to be that Marincin belongs on the top pairing paired next to Morgan Reilly.

Fretting over waiver wire trash and PTOs is a very Oiler fan thing to do. I too thought Versteeg was a lock to sign, but Chiarelli has consistently filled gaps this off-season and I have to think something else is in the offing.

Yes, opening day is tomorrow but numerous clubs have balls in the air- Anaheim, Winnipeg, Buffalo, etc.

It would be unreasonable to think this is the final or even best roster until all of that is settled.

C'mon, we ALWAYS go into the season with question marks or injuries. I know I am merely nothing more than a fan, & Chia is a GM with probably infinite more hockey knowledge but option A vs B

Lucic - Mcdavid - Eberle
Poo - RNH - Versteeg
Maroon - Drai - Parenteau
Pitlick - Letestu - Kassian

AHL

Slep-Cag-Pulju

vs.

Lucic - Mcdavid Eberle
Poo - RNH - Drai
Marron - Cag - Pulju
Pitlick - Letestu -Kassian

AHL

Slep- No one

We are now one injury away on right wing OR centre to being ******.

HOW IS DEPTH BAD?

This is 100% China's fault

But Yea **** him for wanting a job after not getting one here.

Grow up.

Rumour is Oilers offered a near identical deal but he chose Calgary. Hard to fault him when he'll start with top line minutes down there and would be a 3rd liner here.

Oh I forgot Reinhart for the 16th and 33rd picks. Maybe when Chia is trading a top end pick or valuable asset he could win a trade? Chia is the worst GM yet. Let's have this chat 5 years from now when the Oilers have missed 16 years in a row of playoffs.

You forgot Maroon and Talbot. God you're a worse poster than me.

As for the Hall deal you can't win with the leagues worst defense. Solve that conundrum. Who replaces Yaks 8 goals?

Just the dumb ones, which keep piling up.

He could only wish to be as astute a general manager as you.

Looking like we're breaking camp with

Lucic-McDavid-Eberle
Pouliot-RNH-Draisaitl
Maroon-Caggiula-Puljujarvi
Pitlick-Letestu-Kassian

Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-Russell
Nurse-Davidson

So two rookies in the top 9, Drai and Drake out of position, Russell in the top four and playing on his off side and Nurse with the big team despite a middling camp. Craig Chia is on it.

Yes, the waiver all-stars of Parenteau and... well, there wasn't a D there who was easy to fit in from a contract standpoint, but that player.... would have surely buoyed this team into the playoffs.

Are you done complaining about hypothetical transactions you believe the team should have partaken in but didn't?

3 cheers for rushing Pulju! And Drai burning out by Dec playing tough minutes with Nuge!

We must be the only fanbase who worries about a young skilled player burning out. Calgary sure doesn't worry about that with Bennett. They want him to get heavy minutes in the top 6.

That's great, but how was he on the Oilers? Top pairing? Right now, where would he be playing in the lineup? Would he be effective on this team, with this coach? Was Chiarelli in love with his fluffiness?

There's a lot more to hindsight than just looking at how a guy might be doing on a completely different team.

I wish I didn't have to worry about it, but we've seen him do it a couple times now. He's a big boy, but the endurance hasn't caught up to his size. Not his fault, he just needs to physically mature more.

Major overreaction going on here . Versteeg was so so in training camp. Some are acting like Chia let a star player go. And maybe Versteeg did not like it here who knows.

I don't know if it was mentioned in here yet, but Chiarelli will be on the radio with Stauffer at 1pm according to twitter.

Seriously? You have to win a trade once in a while. Talbot, well we could have plucked Condon off waivers today. That is how valuable he is. Maroon, yup, he can replace Yak's goal production ... he has played how many games for the Oilers? Maroon was a definate win ... on a depth player for garbage trade. Big deal.

No, I am not a worse poster than you ... I am a realist.

I honestly dislike grooming Drai as a winger. Now we are breaking in 2 rookies in Caggiula and Pulju when Parenteau and Frk could be had. Just awful

What does Talbot have to do with Condon?

You call the Maroon trade a "big deal", but you ***** about the Marincin and Yakupov trades? And Versteeg, of all people, not being signed?

I too wish we had an unproven rookie winger to replace our unproven rookie winger.

Wait what?

I guess you don't know what depth is. Pulju is the more valuable piece. We cannot afford to ruin his development as we did to Yak. Parenteau and Frk are temporary. That's the point I'm trying to make.

Everyone knew a big loss trade was coming in order to address a need. It was going to happen. Our defense was the leagues worst last year and had to be fixed.

Condon is better than Talbot? What?
