Have no idea why people think Parenteau would help this team. He's a lazy floater, the exact style of play this team is trying to move away from. Vets are good, only if they play the right way. PAP does not.
I wouldn't point fingers at Gryba that is an added layer of security and defensive depth, point fingers at handing out contracts to Mark Fraser and David Musil who are much further removed from being NHL players is a far better place to start looking. Giving out a 1 yr contract for a d-man who figures as being about 8th or 9th in d-man depth is perfectly reasonable and normal, quality depth usually costs a contract spot, it is reasonable to expect your most NHL ready D and C in the AHL to have a contract counting against our 50 man limit. When you have d-men that are more like 12th or 14th in the pecking order with a contract is more troubling. There are two others I'd like to single out in Moroz and Christoffer though there is a small hindsight bias there, but both of them having roles of minor impact even on the farm club felt kind of predictable.
