Time to get down to brass tacks and stop the blaming and circling the drain.

1) problem one loss of speed and possession and PK in the bottom six.

The solution to this is likely already in house or at least mostly in house. Podko will never be in the NHL what he was in junior. That ship has left the dock. BUT he could likely be a very good 2 way 4th liner with cycle and grit and board battle guru, A very good guy that could be groomed for the next year or two to PK. Jarventie should be shifted to centre in Bakersfield and Savoie to RW.
With the return of Trouble likely around the deadline we could see...

Podko--Jarventie--Perry/Savoie as a fourth line by years end?

2) We need a Defensive D with grit/passing/defense to be a foil for Nurse and push Kulak for stabilty of the 3rd pair.

Most people here know who i want for that. He is better than all of Emby/Dermott/Stecher.

3) We need to upgrade our goalies (both of them) in Bakersfield and get another guy with very good potential in the chute.

Trade a third along with Rodrigue for Matt Murray on Nashville's farm and get Blackwood from San Jose.
Then make a deal with Columbus for Sergei Ivanov (and maybe Olivier if you can swing it. Most of you won't have heard of Sergei but he has exceptional mechanics and really big upside.
Your obsession with Matt Murray is weird.

Why are we adding assets to sidegrade the goalie and get older?

I look but I do not see?
ok
like I said, If our top centres refuse to acquaint themselves with the defensive side of the blueline at all, then
I suppose there are personal achievements to cheer for.......perhaps they can win the Olympic 3 on 3 hockey event that's coming on the horizon.
Props to you for defending yourself and your argument!

I love his basics. Think he could be much better than Pickard. Plus I followed him alot in Junior while he was here. So far this year he is 5-0 with a .939 SV% with 148 shots against. So averaging abaout 30 shots against per game.
What is your idea Tobias as to what we should do about the goaltending situation. Stand pat or ?
Further i would like to add that Nashville's track record with regards to goalie evaluation and management is if not best in the league is top two. But it seems you are wiser than them?
Lastly were adding assets because Edmonton's management are smart/competent enough to look down the road. They need someone else to do some of their thinking.

Again Toby what would you do now about our goaltending? I'd like to have opportunity to critique your insights. Surprise us with your abilities.

There truly is something in the water.

Does honestly feel like there is something wrong with this team. They can’t bring their A game until they are in a hole in a season or playoff round.

No point really trading players till you figure out the underlying problem. Not convinced that JJ or SB will either

Quiet personalities in the locker room + inexperienced coaching + bad goaltending that can't float a team for a stretch

Is probably the triple crown culprit.

Throw in "support wingers" who all inexplicably get stage fright the second they're asked to score at just a 20 goal rate on the 2nd line and then can't piss a drop. Not just this year's group like every year.

With this we need Mcdavid to be super hero and he's just not that guy anymore. He's broken

He's had like 2 sub-par stretches of hockey in his career and just won a Conn Smythe trophy, lol.

The problems are far deeper than just that. I think it's largely the goaltending.

You want to go cheap there and not make it an organizational priority ... these wild highs and lows is what you get.

TBH he looked off in the playoffs still.

Goaltending is definitely number 1. What are the possibilities here.

This analytics "looking" like we should be better is not something I'd hold onto too tightly. Every season you hear about teams reverting to mean. It doesn't always happen. Vancouver last year never really slowed down their obscene shooting %. It just continued. Often as not you see the correction the next season or eventually, but not always immediately. If the Oilers start to wait for that its real trouble.

We're primarily not scoring because we have a dozen players in lineup that won't even change up the angle on a shot. That refuse to move puck and tuck, or just change up angle of shot on a goalie. What results is pad stuffing. Players like Connor Brown being experts. Apparently its contagious. Now we have Brown, Janmark, Arvid Podz etc perfecting anguished looks at almost never scoring. We have other players like Nuge not even checked in and having a horrible start.

We lost a lot of goals in lineup. All the Kane goals. 20-25 goal reduction from Hyman, Lost 38 goals from forwards no longer here (and that prorates to 45G on full seasons. Skinner wasn't going to be getting that back by himself and Podz basically never scores and Arvid finish will frustrate on most nights.

For sure the scoring should improve. But not to the degree that people might think it will.

We're in some trouble if more heads start sagging on the bench. You can't have several forwards in your roster that are severely snakebit without it impacting bench in some way.

They'll probably eventually start normalizing their shooting percentage and then the front office will pay themselves on t he back and just chalk it up to "bad luck", but this many poor starts is an endemic problem that they're likely too stupid to realize.

What they should do is try and find an Adin Hill type scenario where they have a 3rd option to look at it in.

What will they do? Nothing. "Gotta get Stuey goin'! Advanced goaltending metrics don't mean anything! GRANT FUHR! Something, something".

I'm glad I didn't say this.

Broken?

He's a player that Knights were spying with anywhere from 2-4 checkers on him. McD is only mitigated on some nights, not broken. One would think all the wingers left open every night could be adding more.

You know we had a hockey team once. Now all we have left is the sum of the parts and apparently some of those are broken.

This team can only skill their way out of bad play and they are usually not doing that until too late in the game. It is clear they respond to a fight, but no longer have anyone that can go out there and change the temp/emotions of a game. I used to get kind of annoyed at the Kostin talk but he is exactly what is needed. Someone like him, Hathaway, etc. there are creative ways to make something like those guys work in a trade. A 3rd party to retain 1/2 of Kostin has to be out there somewhere, it just depends on how bad Bowman wants to do that. My guess is he is too proud to stray from what he has changed the makeup of the team to. He appears TERRIBLE at reading the room. Opponents clearly have.

Olivier could be had. He's a betttttter version of Klim. Cap 1.1m
Question 1 ...do we need to do this? and Question 2 ...shouldn't our focus be somewhere else(s) first?

Yeah they need to do this soon I would think. I also don't think this would cost any assets that would otherwise be used for top 4 RHD.

Could he though? I'd love to add him, hell I'd love to have him and Klim on a line together. I just don't think that Columbus moves him for anything that isn't an overpay.

The highlighted is part of the problem with this team IMO.
They usually can outscore their mistakes but its a bad habit to get into because its just not a sustainable game plan.

Focus on defence and commit to defence and the offence will come.
Then evaluate the teams needs up front....ie...size...speed etc.

EDIT: I just wanted to add...how is a 5 minute 4th line player (who doesnt play on the PK) like Kostin going to move the needle?

Jeff Marek saying the Oilers aren't panicking and would like to get younger and add more forward speed...and a 2nd pair D.....you mean like Mcleod, Holloway, Foegele, and Broberg/Ceci? This team is hilarious.
Ceci isn't it. Broberg was a risk to sign to his deal. Foegele outpriced himself from here and McLeod has proven not to be a playoff guy.
