Bad hips or not, he looked like a lost puppy on the ice. You can’t fix a low hockey IQ

Do you really need hockey Einstein to play straight line hockey on a Babcock 4th line? He can easily deliver in that role and has a sneaky good shot that will show up a couple times a season . You don’t sign him to anything that can’t be buried in the minors penalty free anyway

Because the past when he had 2 bad hips and he was a child and he didn’t speak any English doesn’t f***ing matter? Who gives a f***? The guy will be way better than David Tomasek. We’re talking about a depth piece and he was decent in that role for other NHL teams when he was younger dumber and less healthy.

His size and puck protection alone make him useful in specific roles, and he has a sneaky shot from his junior days that has a lot of velocity. He’s basically your average bottom guy but with hidden talents. I’m pretty sure if Babcock had access to him as a roster option, he would use him.
He doesn't have great hockey IQ. Babs will tear him apart.

Gross, Stastney should be moved on from if possible lol.

No you move Nurse, and if you want to move Walman, do that too. But Stastney isn't good, lets stop pretending otherwise.

Probably, but I saw enough flashes that I think there's a player there when he's properly used (and not as a RD). Him and Emberson were solid if unspectacular as a 3rd pairing, I just hate the lack of size when they're together.

But two smooth-skating, reliable, solid but unspectacular defenders sound like perfect partners for Bouchard and Ekholm led pairings.

I would take Puljujarvi back if he was committed to being a bottom six player. Guy with size who knows what he's doing in his own end.

He's not going to come here because he'll have options and I don't think he particularly enjoyed his time with this group (not to mention I doubt the Oilers are that interested in him). But he's good enough to at least get a shot on a third or fourth line somewhere. He'd be worth a dart throw if he was actually an option.

Yeah I'm thinking if we can dump Nurse for cap space, that you hold the cap space and don't do anything crazy to blow that room immediately.

The UFA class is mediocre and the worst thing that could happen is that you take the cap room from Nurse and immediately shoot yourself in the foot with a Mangiapane or Skinner type contract.

I'm OK with a 1 year deal for Corey Perry, that will bring a few extra goals to the team.

It's not that I wouldn't consider signing a forward, but anyone asking for a NMC is a non-starter. You have to be able to move the contract at the trade deadline and not get stuck having to send out a 1st to move them or something ridiculous.

We can't get stuck in the same spot we did last year with the Mangiapane deal. Teams will take advantage of you if you are stuck with a player that has term on their deal and you have to move them.

I doubt Laine wants to play for Babcock (lol), but I would if that wasn't the case, I would be OK for example giving him a 1 year deal with NTC that is a small NTC only (10 teams or something), so you can move him at the trade deadline if you want, in the interim he gets a shot with McDavid or Drai.

He lacks talent. He's 24 and a tweener. Stastney should have been grabbed off waivers, because the 3rd traded for him was a waste.

Or a low IQ period. The kid had 6 years to learn some working English, and failed to do it (even with tutors).

This isn’t fair, and it’s not how language works. Not only are English and Finnish very different languages, and not related at all, but there are many factors that affect language acquisition, and intelligence is about the least of them.

Yeah not sure where this bad IQ comes from for Jesse. Maybe it’s his goofy character and physical appearance, but I don’t think he was lacking in the hockey IQ department.

I just don’t think his skills translated as well as we thought they would.

If Ottawa bombs out of the gates and has to go into a full rebuild I wouldn't that opposed to taking a swing on Foegele back. He's better than Janmark. Maybe not now because they will probably demand a 2nd for him (that they paid to LA to get him), but maybe that price comes down as the season goes along.

Binnington or Markstrom for Jarry I would look at this summer. I dunno do they want to give Jarry another chance? He probably is better than what he showed last year but at the same time, is he really "the guy"?

I think his skating style wasn't really suited for small ice. He's not a shifty player, he doesn't have a great change of direction. He seems to have such a long stride, more suited for big ice. Doesn't mean he couldn't play in kind of a straight line role, but I think that's what limited him from developing more of an offensive game. Could also be due to his hips, I don't know.

Can't see him wanting to come back to the Oilers. Unless nobody else wanted him.

100% disagreed on my part. The kid is obviously a bit simple, but loveable. Tons of non-English speaking players have got a working handle if the language within a few years (Finnish or otherwise). Mind you, they also put in the effort.

35 points in 65 games with no PP time. That's Pod lite.

I'd imagine he would want to go where he had the most success
Some problems is that they put him with McDavid a few times and Jesse missed more open nets than I could count. Maybe at a bottom six role with focus on defense. I have not seen him play recently, but he has size and speed and is skilled.

I'd welcome him at a low dollar deal, but I dont think the core would. Didn't we have comments from McDrai about buy in and players wanting to be here that were heavily speculated to be about JP? Seems like the last thing they would want to invite into the room with what we have heard about the Babcock hire and conversations.

I definitely prefer taking a 1m swing here than a 5m swing on Mikheyev though.
