Coming off a first round loss it might already give pause to some players in terms of us being a legitimate contender. Add in the Babcock effect and did we just cook ourselves in terms of player acquisition?
I’d say pretty low, I can’t imagine Babcock would put himself in a position where even MORE negative publicity came out that he scooted out of initially. The league/NHLPA looking into it prior to employment isn’t a shock to him I’m sure. What are the chances more shit comes out about what happened in Columbus?
The league denying the hire and Stauffer explaining on his show why Babcock was always the wrong choice would be amazing radio.I’d say pretty low, I can’t imagine Babcock would put himself in a position where even MORE negative publicity came out that he scooted out of initially. Can hardly wait to hear who our third choice is going to be.I don’t even know what’s going on. It’s a circus
After coasting for years Stauffer is gonna earn that Baghdad Bob nickname this summer. The league denying the hire and Stauffer explaining on his show why Babcock was always the wrong choice would be amazing radio.

This is a real issue. The fact that some players love him does not change the optics here. Throw in the uncertainty of a McDavid extension and the Oilers will have an even tougher time competing for UFA's than in recent years. And its not like all the top players have jumped at their first chance to wear the Oil Drop.Coming off a first round loss it might already give pause to some players in terms of us being a legitimate contender. Its actually starting to come out as a nothing burger. One of the younger guys was offended amd we have all talked about the younger generation being different and much more soft and beeding to be coddled amd suchWhat are the chances more shit comes out about what happened in Columbus?

Ken Hitchcock coached this team in 2019. That's less than 10 years ago. I'm not even opposed to bringing in someone tough on players but digging up an old fossil that nobody else wanted who's completely out of touch with the modern NHL ain't it.Its actually starting to come out as a nothing burger. I'm not a Babcock fan, but like most are starting to point out. We have had muffin after muffin for coaches over the last decade. Let's see what some one wothvsome passion and a fking backbone can do for this team.
I do not like Sutter and his stupid BS, but he's a dramatic upgrade on what's being discussed with Cassidy out of reach.Ken Hitchcock coached this team in 2019. That's less than 10 years ago. Assuming Babcock is hired, I assume this is some indication of the type of player they’ll be targeting in the offseason. I’m sure we’ll hear that the Oilers are interested in bringing Perry and Kane back into the mix. I think they’ll likely sign Mikheyev. It’s gonna be players that are abrasive in some way, who aren’t afraid of playing for a coach like Babcock.
He isn't really one of those size/physicality/grit dinosaurs. He's a lot more speed/tenacity. Guys like Helm, Tatar, Hudler, Abdelkader, Filppula, Brown, Kapanen, Kerfoot, etc.Assuming Babcock is hired, I assume this is some indication of the type of player they’ll be targeting in the offseason. Even if he isn't that old that doesn't change the fact that his brain is stuck in 2002. Hasn't won anything in years. I would love to be wrong about all of this and for Babs to go down in history as a Canadian national hero, playing a major role in an Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup victory but the odds of that happening seem astronomically low.Cassidy is 61
Babcock is 63
So I guess Cassidy also meets the definition of fossil. People forget Babcock got the head coaching gig in Detroit in his early 40’s so it seems like he’s way older than he is. If it wasn’t for Bissonnette blowing things out of proportion for what happened in Columbus, which Jenner & Gaudreau denied it was nowhere near as malicious as made out to be, he’s probably still coaching the CBJ as that was at the start of the 23-24 season.

Putting Kane on a team coached by Babcock would be like putting a timed nuclear bomb in your own garage. Then again, nothing would surprise me when it comes to management decisions at this point. He'll hate Kane. Babcock plays a possession game and doesnt really encourage physicality. His teams are always amongst the lowest penalized. Perry, yes. He's a veteran voice that can shut Babs down when he gets in Savoie's face
We're watching to see what happens! Winning or losing this isn't more than a 3 year stint, imo, likely 2 years.
