As of today, this is where we are at, with the holes that I think we have identified. Nurse is not included in expectation of the rumoured trade being completed.

Nuge - McDavid - Hyman
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Savoie
Dach/Open - Dickinson - OPEN
Open/Dach - Samanski - Frederic
Janmark

Ekholm - Bouchard
Walman - Murphy
OPEN - Emberson
Stastney

Jarry
OPEN

So this leaves us with a top six winger, a third line winger, a goalie (preferably a starter but at his salary, Jarry is going to get the chance to start), and possibly a veteran #5 defenseman. Ike Howard could fill one of the W spots, but if we do that, I expect Nuge keeps his 1LW spot and Howard gets to start on 3LW, and that's probably not a recipe for success.

I don't know how we find a top line winger (or top six) to play with McDavid, I don't expect any will really be left by the time free agency opens, and Tuch isn't coming to Canada I'm sure. There aren't many wingers on that list that aren't older than Jesus and/or simply not producing anymore. I wouldn't mind taking a shot on a guy like Bjorkstrand for the 3rd line.

It can’t be used on an offer sheet this summer as it belongs to the Hawks right now. The Oilers will be in the market for a cheaper option. Either a Wotherspoon/Seeler type that comes back in a Nurse trade, or they trade for a guy on an ELC that can develop into a top 4 in a few years.

It’s been posted numerous times here that the bonus is not due July 1. It’s in 3 instalments during the season. Also, I wouldn’t be so sure about Tuch not coming to Canada. He’s married to a Western Canadian gal.

I was thinking perhaps if Nurse goes to SJ we can back our first from our Walman deal in the trade. Than use that to get a young LS d man to play third pair but can move up in a few years.

Listen, I was for punting Nurse before it was cool. But the thing is, when we all get in an uproar to move him, and the whole league knows we want to move him, thats when things go south fast. Idk if you can sell high on him, but selling him now is certainly looking like selling low.

I refer back to the Jarry trade. Everyone said "addition by subtraction!" And cheered the trade. Now they look like fool's who were all too eager for change for the sake of, and it hurt the team so much more to make that move than just sitting with the status quo.

If there is a move for Nurse that makes sense, and follow up moves to fill the roster that make sense, I would welcome a move or two. Problem is, Bowman has not inspired any confidence in those things happening.

I have a gut feeling it will be Carson Soucy on a Kulak type deal. Local guy, Stauffer used to bring him up every deadline, and he’s in that place in his career where stability as a #5 on a contending team probably tops more money elsewhere.

Maybe Bowman keeps the theme going and we do something like 5 x 3.1 for him, slight pay cut for lots of term and we never have to worry about LHD for the rest of the McDrai window.

Not to mention that we were so close to trading for him one year that they had a jersey ready to go for him.

Sharks already traded our first to Buffalo in the Kesselring trade.

Also, we would be very lucky to get a first for Nurse Imo.

Nuge absolutely cannot be in the top 6. If he is- the oilers have failed this offseason

I think I’d prefer either Wotherspoon (1x1) or Seeler (2x2.7) if they could come back in a Nurse trade. Soucy wouldn’t be so bad I guess. You just know Ekholm and Walman will miss 20-40 games combined, so it’s pretty important to bring in depth that can play up a line at times.
