It always felt like San Jose was the one team where we would be able to dump his entire cap hit without having to take a bad salary back.
They have 40M in cap space this year and 80M next year. They need guys with higher cap hits and preferably lower actual dollars. Should try to dump Nurse and Jarry

See, this is what I mean by both are of equal importance. Both are mature and can be potential Leaders in their positions. And we need this so bad. Jason Dickinson reminds me of Moreau and Murphy reminds me of Staios back in the day. Both were not flashy players at all, but they played the defensive side very well. I said since we started making runs to the Finals "We need more of the 2006 Oilers had. More defensive high energy experienced hockey". If we get one more player similar to these 2, as well as a capable goalie, be it Jarry or someone else, we will be back in the Finals next year. And the best part, is it just get's better from here as the cap keeps going up. As much flak as people wanna give Stan, he did good by putting these guys in. And with Babcock coming in, I think we will find out which players are passengers, and which ones are willing to put it on the line for this team.

If the Oilers can clear Nurse’s money and sign Tuch July 1, I feel they should shop Howard for young D on an entry level contract who can basically slide into Ekholm’s role over the next couple years as he slows down and becomes a bottom pair anchor.

Even if Pitts makes us take back Girard in a Nurse trade, you package Girard and Howard for the best young LHD you can get. If you can get Wotherspoon or Seeler, then let that young D develop for a year in the AHL. It’s more likely the Oilers need defensive depth than forward depth this year looking at the potential for injuries with guys like Ekholm/Walman/Murphy on the team.
We should offer sheet Nikishin for Carolina threatening to offer sheet Bouchard, which bought his price up.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the goal is to only bring in 1 forward (top 6) and see if Babcock can make a useful player out of Frederic or Howard in the top 9.

I try to remember that Frederic was looking better for a bit after the olympic break with some rest. I'm hoping we get a bit of connor brown situation where he's fully healed from the high ankle sprain and motivated.

In terms of cup run readiness by position...

C - Quite set. Would love a lazar type as a depth forward to finalize it.
Top 6 wing - We need 1, otherwise good.
Bottom 6 wing - If Nuge is bumped down, this can work - but we should add a depth guy at the trade deadline.
RD - Set. Cup ready.
LD - Need to see who replaces Nurse. Probably need a trade deadline add.
G- Yikes.

So a Nurse trade and a 3LD replacement, a top 6 w acquisition, and a goalie add is necessary to feel good about this summer.
They're going to need one or two guys in the bottom 6 who can score more than 20 points. You can't win in today's NHL without real production from your #7-12 forwards.

They simply cannot go into next year without another legitimate top 6 winger who can bump Nuge down to line 3.

Yeah I don’t think Frederic fit under Knoblauch at all, also not enough toughness on the roster to inspire him to play tough. In Boston he had Cassidy and Montgomery who get pretty fired up, he was surrounded by tough character players, very easy to follow along. He’s just not a leader and that’s fine.

I suspect Babcock would get more out of him, if the team plays with more swagger I think we see a more physical and engaged Frederic.

Are we in the market for a goalie at all? I feel like there's been not enough discussion about that.
There will be a new goalie of the Levi/Cossa young potential 1B variety. Like it or not, Jarry will get a chance to bounce back. If he doesn’t, that’s priority #1 at the deadline. Jarry’s contract can probably be move with a year and a quarter left, and the cap hit of the upgrade is easier to fit in than it would be this summer.

I have to think Stauffer saying that is management threatening Nurse via the media to expand his list or else. He was the one who asked out, after all.

Nurse asked out? Ya no. This is not a Tkatchuks, Hughes or Larkin ask.

Nurse was told he's gone no matter what. He gave a list knowing they don't want him, so
Its in his own best interest he provides a list early so atleast he has a bit of control where he goes.

Dude's being forced out. Not the other way around

Man Twitter is a cesspool for hockey talk, I thought it was better than this. So many randoms just making crap up like they’re insiders. Just speculate, don’t act like you know things.

And I’m a guy that doesn’t mind rumors getting posted here, but the way these Twitter dorks frame things is so dishonest and lame.

I'm fine if Nurse comes back tbh. I think he has a better year if hes beside Murphy or demoted to 3LD beside Emberson, and I dont have faith in Stan to find a better Dman on the market. I also want Walman to come in motivated to take a top 4 spot with his new deal.

I also dont have faith in Bowman to use the freed up cap wisely. Tuch is the only interesting FA fwd, and I dont think hes the fit we need tbh.

They absolutely need another difference maker. What does replacing Kapanen with Mikheyev do for us? f*** all at best, and at worst its a mangiapane scenario if he doesnt fit.

Hell to the no!! He can get the F out! Who cares how good Nurse looks next to Murphy in the regular season.

We know exactly what he is in the post season. A terrible dman who consistently scores on himself.

Good riddance imo

He said Stauffer has been told to stay quiet. I'm not sure if he's legit but I guess we'll see

Stauffer was definitely yapping too much for a couple weeks. I would have asked him to settle down too. At least stop giving too many details to Frank because he just tweets it all out right away.

The Knoblauch firing, the Bouchard “concussion”, Babcock, probably a couple others I’m missing.

It doesn’t help to put everything out there. Oilers Now listeners in the summer shouldn’t be prioritized lol

That and having Cossa’s agent on and basically walking right up to the line of tampering. If we haven’t made a deal for him by Saturday using one of our next two 2nds I will be a Large Chicken Med.

Remember when we traded for Cossa a couple weeks ago?

It definitely seemed like it man. Rumours were coming out full tilt and this was pretty much because Boob decided to make it seem so direct. Now he's trying to deflect people so it doesn't look like tampering.

Bob keeps saying they need to try to get Jarry going. It’s the same crap all over again lol
Unfortunately that's the best hope. Pittsburgh was in the same spot the Oilers were last offseason then Jarry had a strong first half of the season and he got built up into an asset somehow but the issue is that there aren't many Stan Bowmans out there to take on your bad contract.

In any event, it's not like Jarry hasn't played well in the league as he's put together some solid seasons so the only real solution since he's untradeable is to try to get him going and build up any semblance of value that he previously had. The question is who they tandem with him whether it's Ingram or somebody else.

Regardless, the team needs to play a lot better defensively no matter who is in goal. They've carried Skinner/Pickard to two straight finals with solid defensive and strong puck possession teams so if they can get back to that they could get away with a Jarry/whoever tandem. Look at the goalies over the years. Bussi, Hill, Binnington who has stunk since, Kuemper, Skinner/Pickard to two straight finals etc. All played behind deep teams that controlled the puck a lot and kept scoring chances against to a minimum, that's what the Oilers need to try to build because they aren't getting a top goalie nor do they need one if they have a strong team in front of their goalies.
