I think that Quinn Hutson is probably going to get a good look at camp, too, considering he had such a strong year in Bakersfield.

Last time we won the Cup we had a kid line as the 4th line. Howard-Samanski-Hutson.
 
Step 1 of the Babcock plan: acquire a player he absolutely despises so he can healthy scratch him 84 times next season.

That's basically like a developmental year though.

You're not getting through the Vegas', Colorado, Florida, Carolinas of the world with that forward depth. Not enough firepower. McDavid will be left on an island when Hyman and/or Draisaitl get their inevitable playoff injury.
 
We all know how this is going to with the media. Some have talked shit the last two weeks, but now that Babs is being hired, we all know the Gregor’s of Oilers media will wilt and ask real tough sports journalist questions like “So, do you like stuff?” because if they lose their press pass, there goes their meal ticket.

I’ll be shocked if the hardest question asked is “What made you decide to come out of retirement to coach this specific team?”.

You're not going through those teams until you make the playoffs. You add big deadline names if you have the cap space and the trade assets to get them.

With the 3C and the 2RD locked up, the logical deadline target is the team's scoring depth.

If you get Draisaitl a winger instead or let Savoie ease his way into that spot, I dont think its a failure. I would actually prefer targeting a guy like Tuch or Tippett.

For reference, fans had Bobby MaMann slotted in that role and he had 46 points in 78 games.

It was a down year for nuge for sure but I wouldn't be upset with running back Nuge/Savoie if it makes sense.

They would need to be a very significant add, I think we are moving into a new era of super teams, the Oilers are not keeping pace and 2024 is in the rear view mirror the rest of the league has moved on from that.

But maybe honestly the expectations need to be dialed back a bit. I get in public they have to say "Cup or bust" for McDavid's sake, but that's probably not literally what they believe. We don't have that kind of team right now.

If we can get back to being a 100 point team and a team that wins maybe a round or two after the significant step backwards taken last year, maybe that is more of a reasonable expectation for the roster we project to have.

My youtube algorithm pulls oilers content, and 30% of it is Flames podcasters. How nuts is that? I wonder if there is another example of sports creating intergeneration trauma like this. It should be studied.

He also added that Janmark has been playing with a f***ed up shoulder last 2 seasons which is something I didn't know about.

Apparently that's been fixed up via surgery so I guess we will see? At least he's cheap and almost the entire salary can be buried.
