Yup. "Small market team requires support roles filled to remain a contender, but didn't sign them for free" is total gaslighting bullshit

This AAV on Murphy is really good, especially with the rising cap. Wasn’t a huge fan of the Dickinson AAV but signing these 2 for a shade over 8 mil is a win imo. Notice how these gaslighters never come up with an alternative? Just the usual “OMGz BAd dEaL”

Toronto media dunces can sit this one out. They sign one possibly good d man (who knows what he is after his outlier year) for more than what we paid these two.

Reactions: Faelko and Oilhawks
The problem the Oilers have really when you boil it down is their management is stupid, yes, but other teams are just too damn aggressive.

I think deep down the Oilers management is of the thought process that if a Florida or Vegas wins a Cup they'll just "chill, relax" with that 1 Cup, but the problem is those teams are not cooperating.

Florida is behaving like they're still hunting for their 1st Cup, not like they already have won two and are content to just chill. Vegas is hyper aggressive. Minnesota is adopting the same stance. That then will push Colorado, Dallas, Montreal, etc. etc. And then you have younger teams like Anaheim and San Jose that want to push up and are hungry also.

Oilers management just isn't cut out for a league if that's going to be the attitude of team's that have smart management. We have McDavid and Drai which other teams don't, but those other teams have other advantages to balance the scales (like better location and taxes).

We should be the most aggressive, desperate team for a Cup, but we're clearly not, teams like Vegas and Florida are doing more to win a second/third Cup than we are to win just 1. These other teams just want to win as much as they can and I don't think we're equipped to handle that kind of attitude from them.

Lets be honest this organization's thought process has always been "well we have McDavid and Draisaitl, surely just sprinkling around them some decent to OK supporting cast will result in at least 1 Cup" from basically 2015 to today. There's no ambition with this management past that.
Trade Isaac Howard now or at deadline

So assuming ~1mil to Dach and Stastney, that leaves them with roughly 5.5mil** for a goalie and a 4th line wing.
**a little more if you go with Regula and/or Leppanen for 7D or waive Janmark

So what's the argument against Ingram at 2-2.5mil? He's not amazing, but he gave them league-average/stable goaltending for the last half of the year, which is more than most at that price point can offer. I absolutely hate the idea of running Jarry and an unproven option. Hell, I'd prefer Ingram-Levi/Cossa/Dipietro with Jarry as the #3 in Bakersfield.

Give me Ingram on a 2x2 and Kirby Dach on a Roslovic-like 1 year deal, and I don't mind that for the opening day of camp.
add in Janmark's cap. He will be moved or be farmed

I think he will help the offensive group with depth and get a bit more out of young players than the terrified Knoblauch did.

Defensively? Good luck. And no the Oilers issues aren't all just "blame McDavid and Draisaitl for missing a back check this time!". Bouchard can be a profoundly stupid player defensively for stretches. Ekholm is declining. Walman can also prone to making mistakes, Murphy is not young and injury prone, etc. etc. There's no goalie to insulate any of this either.

If Babcock can get them back to being more middle of the pack for GA instead of bottom 6, that's probably a good job given what we have to work with. But that's not a legit Cup contender either.

I think the team will be more akin to the Woodcroft era Oilers, which makes sense given Woodcroft is a Babcock disciple.

Sure but those guys definitely should take blame sometimes. Take the Rangers game this year. The Oilers were crushing them. That loss was ultimately on 2 people...Bouchard and Knob, however.....if you rewatch that game you will notice 2 things. Once Rangers got one back, they changed their game drastically. Even their top players like JT and Panarin, who can easily skate with the puck, were dumping it in from center every shift.

What did you see our players do different? Absolutely nothing. McD was still trying to burn players and still shooting gaps for Bouchard. In a game they could have protected the lead or played for OT, they didn't change a thing. Now, as I said, coach should make these calls., however......

I recall when the Oil played Ana after the Maroon trade. The Oil were getting worked until, Maroon spoke up. He told them they had to chip and chase into the corners, and that's exactly what they did and it changed the game

So ya, maybe McD and Drai deserve some blame from time to time

Man you're talking about a regular season game from 10 years ago, lol.

The coach should be dictating that stuff too, that's kind of the point of the job.

Rangers won their series too.
