I want to see an AAV below 14. I want at least a million a year deferred.
Lol lots of time to replace Ceci. Enjoy the moment.Management needs to fix the RD. I can’t celebrate a Draisaitl deal with this D corps. Maybe he would have signed for less if they kept his buddy Ceci and looked to be competent at maintaining a competitive Defence. Hard to imagine winning in front of this group if you’re big D.
Loving all the "mAnAgEmEnT fAiLeD By NoT dEfErRiNg MoNeY oN tHiS dEaL" takes already out there lol
I knew once Carolina did that that would be the new rallying cry by the usual suspects on here. "I'm so mad about this thing that is extremely complicated that I just learned about yesterday!!!"
Well said. I feel it has needed to be repeated all summer, especially the bolded."I'm mad Stan didn't just force him to take that contract structure! Players should just be ok deferring a massive amount of money and should just say yes to whatever the team demands!"
Of all things, some people's complete inability to understand that there are two sides to a negotiation, and that the team can't just waive a wand and do what they want that is probably the most grating. Way too much time on GM mode in NHL24 has rotted perspectives.
I wonder what that means lol
I think they would have considered it if Holloway was still an Oiler and going their wayCalgary will watch the world burn before they give us Andersson or Weeger.
I suspect the plans for the extensions for McDavid and Bouchard, and the plans for what the team is going to do going forward.
I wonder what that means lol

This guy accountants.Where do I start?
- Typically collateralized loans aren't at face value
- Kane's bankruptcy proceedings have added material risk to borrowing against SPCs.
- Collateralized loans aren't at low interest rates, or even prime. You're typically getting closer to the high yield territory of 10%+ unless it is extremely over-collateralized and with highly liquid assets
- Income tax isn't being avoided/evaded or turned into capital gains tax. Capital gains are paid on the capital return minus interest paid. Income tax is still paid on the salary. Your suggestion of a conservative investment at 5-6% likely will not cover the interest on the loan.
- The Canadian government is currently in the middle of a battle with John Tavares over jurisdiction for where his taxes should be paid on his bonus, this is far from settled law at this point.
That just scratches the surface, but hopefully this helps.
We still have Henrique for 2025-26. I've said this before if Nurse is still around after next year, we will be seeing Jarventie, Lavoie, Savoie, possibly Wanner and Akey in the lineup.Hypothetical rosters for the two years after this one:
2025-26: Assuming a 92 million cap (4 million rise from current), also assuming Oilers bridge Bouchard (2 year deal) instead of long term as they probably have no choice. 91.5 million cap hit with no extra forward (500k cap room)
BLANK (4) McDavid (12.5) Hyman (5.5)
RNH (5.125) Draisaitl (14) Arvidsson (4)
blank (1.5) blank (2) Savoie (0.863)
blank (1) blank (1.25) blank (0.9)
53.4
Ekholm (6) Bouchard (8.7)
Nurse 9.25 Babysitter (4)
Kulak (2.7) Emberson (1.5)
Akey (0.863)
33
Skinner (2.6)
Pickard (1)
Campbell buy out (2.3)
5.9
91.5 cap hit/92 mill cap roof
2026-27: Assuming 96 million cap (another 4 mill rise). 94.08 (just a shade under 2 mill in cap room). I have Ekholm re-upping at a lower 4 mill cap hit.
blank (5) McDavid (16) Hyman (5.5)
RNH (5.125) Drai (14) Savoie (0.863)

Campbell buyout 2.6

To keep Bouchard long term you probably have to trade Nurse in summer 2027 and then sign him to big contract post-bridge (12m?)

Kulak and Henrique next summer seems like a natural progression at this point. Every year should involve a couple of older depth guys out and a couple newer ones in for cheaper.1 of Henrique or Kulak have to be traded next summer. Is what it is. You can keep one, but likely not both.
Kane has to be traded probably at the deadline this year in a deal for a right D and that probably means a 1st round pick (2026) is going out to make that work.

Here's to hoping they can be sent off with a ring.
Feel like you could go either way really but that's fair. That Henrique deal I think is kind of regrettable. Like he's a good player, but given his age, I think we should have resigned Broberg at the 1.8 his camp initially asked for and locked out any chance of an offersheet.
You can find a 3C at the trade deadline. It's a nice to have, not a must have.
