What a f’n joke. The league should be embarrassed. There is a ridiculously simple fix. If you are on LTIR - you have to play the last game before the playoffs start (to be cap compliant). If you cannot play that last game- you miss the first 2 rounds. Simple.

Or make teams cap compliant in the playoffs. Done.

Both acquisitions are me first players. They’ll fit in nicely with Vegas.

I know some of you are not going to agree and may even think it’s sour grapes as we watch teams load up, but I’ve increasingly been thinking this way as the league created the salary cap years ago.

The entire TDL and machinations of cap, retention, LTI, etc has made a mockery of the pursuit of a Stanley Cup in the pure essence of sport and competition. The reg season means zero, it’s just seeding for the tournament (and if rumours that more teams will be making the playoffs becomes true) it’s just reinforces.

It now has become who can interpret contracts and find loopholes and completely change the team you started the season with, in Mid March, towards the financial gain of an extended play off run. It’s an arms race for financial gain not a process to win a Stanley Cup (thats just an indirect outcome).

I apologize if this should be in the business of hockey forum, but I needed to vent my spleen in the trade thread given the direct connection.

Now…I feel better and will go back to trashing other teams, their pettiness and bad hockey deals.
