Find me a post where a Habs fan thought we'd get a 1st for Kovacevic......
Meaningless post.
you said i have to wait until the deal is done before celebrating victory.

and there are proposals from montreal fans in this thread: kovy for evans

unless you think evans is worth a 4th the trade was a win for the devils and we can celebrate the victory. if not, i happily send you another 4th for evans.

ONE PERSON suggests "So maybe Kovacevic + 2nd + b/c prospect?" and that means there are "proposals from montreal fans" and Jake Evans' value is a 4th-round pick?

Yep, I think both Kovacevic and Evans have similar value.

One is a defensive, good on the PK, good at face-off RHC.

The other is a big, defensive, physical RHD.

Both are sought after commodities comes the TD.

Both are worth at least a 2nd rd pick and some...

I understand, but NJ has depth at RD, they can afford to give Kovy because they have Nemec to take his spot (their former 2nd overall pick needs to play).

And they already have a solid veteran presence at RD, with Hamilton and Pesce.

Kovacevic would be the price they pay, instead of giving a 2nd+ and instead of losing him for nothing this summer.

Furthermore, according to NJ fans, a center like Evans is something they'd need. Maybe they'd even sign him.

Never understood the idea that some fans have that their team doesn't want more picks.

Picks can be bundled and traded to get higher on the draft board. they can be traded for a player at the draft.
The issue Habs fans are facing is that we already have plenty of draft picks and an already deep prospect pool all around.

What we do lack is NHL experience and with how Hughes and Gorton has been speaking, they don’t seem to want to tank next year and want to be competitive. Trading Armia and especially Evans is counter productive to that.

You don’t get competitive by trading good depth players for picks.

Logic and past trade values don’t necessarily match.

History states at best he gets a late second rounder maybe the most middling of prospects tacked on.
Draft picks also aren't valuable because of the hit rate. They're valuable because of the upside and surplus value they provide with 7 cost controlled years.

People just use the "X % of players play 100 games" to justify ridiculous asks.

There's also a 0% chance of Evans reaching 100 games under his current contract, since he's a rental.

So highest of the 3 2nd round picks Devils have and Stillman be enough ?
Or what would the cost be to take Tatar or Haula ? Evans for a 2nd , 3rd , Tatar ?

Evans to NJ makes a boat load of sense

Rather the Habs resign Evans even if overpaid a bit. It seems like such a pain in the ass to get centers that can actually play decently. We also have a giant hole for a 2nd line center which we can't even fill properly because no 2nd line center is even available.

Jake Evans is not a 2nd-line center. The only thing worse than playing Jake Evans on the 2nd-line would be paying Evans 2nd-line money.

He’s getting paid. He’ll be one of the first 3Cs taking advantage of the market correction the new cap is going to bring. Where we have 20 teams with a $5-$6 million 3C again.

His trade value might not be what some Montreal fans hope though. There’s still some 3Cs out there who are considered overpaid, but won’t be anymore come this summer. So teams looking for one, will look at those players first, because they won’t have as much term as Evans is going to get. Assuming any are still available.

But yea, 3Cs have been the most hurt position by the cap crunch, where they actually lost “percentage of Cap” and agents are already hearing the correction is coming with the 3 year announcement. After the big boys get their cut 3Cs are next. You win Cups up the middle. Now teams will have more flexibility with good 3Cs who can play up and down the lineup.

I wasnt saying he would be our 2nd line center I was saying that its a pain in the ass to even get a 2nd line center and having to fill a 3rd line center spot would compound the issue. We might as well sign him to play 3rd line center and be done with it and quickly try and fill the 2nd line center spot that a lot of teams are looking to fill. We need to weaponize our picks and cap space before someone else does.

They got young players coming up to take their place

Rather the Habs trade him out of our conference for the best price we can get for him. We have others waiting to take his place,

He definitely gets a late 1st if traded. Especially at 50%, any team can fit him. Great 3C, great defensively, plays with pace, good winger. I would prefer signing him tho
