Karlsson, like many superstars that have played in a Canadian market for an extended period of time, probably wants out of the more intense media spotlight. Markets like SJ, Vegas, TB, etc... are likely high on his list.

We have to face reality that Canadian markets will continue to be at a disadvantage in attracting free agents, especially without over-paying.

And especially if said team isn't very good. Tavares probably looks elsewhere if the Leafs were a non-playoff team.

Karlsson will go south. Call me a pessimist but Canadian teams rarely, if EVER trade major assets between one another. Imagine how much better both MTL and EDM would be right now if they'd just done Hall for Subban straight up. But that can't happen, CDN franchises rarely if ever cooperate and usually ship their talent south. Go ahead and look at Notable trades in hockey history - NHL Trade Tracker and try to find a major trade between CDN franchises. It almost doesn't happen, and more often than not our country's franchises are sending the better players south. No idea why this is, and I'd love to see it change, but don't hold your breath folks.

Oh don't get me wrong.....I don't expect Karlsson to be traded here.

I fully expect him to be heading to the Stars shortly (or LV or Tampa).

Just was wishful thinking (on my part) that having him this year would have made the year much more interesting. He also addresses every need we have (#1 dman, offensive dman, PP QB, right shot, great transitional player, etc). I don't even know if we had the assets to get him and even if we did I think he'd bolt Edmonton on July 1st anyways.

But was just day dreaming and thinking what kind of team we could ice (for 1 yr) if you added a Karlsson for a reasonable cost.

I'm a fan of Zack, but he's overpaid for a fourth liner. That's why he should be on the block. Same goes for caggiula but the org seems to love whatever it is he brings.

Yup totally agree. $1.95 Million AAV is too much for a 4th liner. I am almost convinced that Kassian is on the move with Upshall and Chiasson brought in for evaluation.

my problem with a GM like Chia is he overpays guys like Strome and Russell, then say trades a heart and soul type player like Kassian bcz of salary issues. 500,00 here and there makes a big difference. He is not good at managing a proper salary structure.
