The borg has done a wayyyyyyyyy wayyyyyyyyyy better job that can not be put into words patchworking the goaltending than RF ever did.

I think the hope was in the 6 seasons of patchwork we would have found an elite goalie somewhere in the draft.

It's not looking like we have an elite goalie in the system right now, but I do trust them to find someone to plug the hole if need be.
There's no reason to give up on Koochie being our longer term answer as a 1a or even clear #1. He's still really young for a goalie and has stretches of absolute elite dominance. Long stretches at that too. Question is can he develop longer term consistency as that's where he's missing right now. And can he bring his lows up a bit higher than they are now.

Not counting on that 100% and we should constantly be evaluating options at the position but I feel pretty decent about our young goalie pipeline (incl. kooch).

The issue this year really was relying on a guy like Freddie who we've known for a while now just cannot be relied upon.

If it’s not crazy long term I’m not as worried about Martin as all that. Last year he came in and played fine for a stretch when we were in a similar predicament. If it it becomes weeks at a time though we will need to figure something out
If they can get one of Andersen or Kochetkov back by the 25th, that would be great. I think Martin can survive Ottawa, STL, at PHI, at NJ, at CBJ (although they need a second goalie for one of those last 3; 3 in 4 nights is too much.)

But after that is Dallas, NYR, and a H&H with Florida. Need one of the top 2 goalies for that stretch.

We should have ejected on freddie. We KNEW his "not ready freddy" act would f*** us. Here we are.

Honestly PK isn't much better with the injuries either, but at least he comes back in a reasonable time

IMHO, Kooch is absolutely the kind of goalie who can get scorching hot for a playoff run and you can win a Cup because of him. He can have a game where he lets in a couple bad goals, but he also doesn't let one bad game turn into 2 or 3.

So Andersen is pretty much toast who knows when he’s back and he can’t be relied upon at all. Time to start checking out the trade market for a goalie

I mean, at least with this recent injury, it was Walker falling skate first into his leg. No goalie is going to feel right after that happens.

Re: PK--he does seem to lose focus in a game in which he gives up a bad goal. Hopefully, over time via maturity and development he will just shake it off (ie, Game 6 Rangers goalie gave up a couple of bad ones bur then stonewalled the Canes that helped lead to the win).

Got it. I thought it was about all of Canes Gt including PK.
It is, but it was the comparison between Andersen and PK that was what I was going for. Without Andersen playing, it kind of moot to some extent. When I get more free time, which won't be until after Thanksgiving, I'll try to update.

I don’t think there’s much out there right now.

Best goalie who is available for trade might be Nedeljkovic. Which wouldn’t be a terrible move as a rental if Freddie is out a while, especially full season.

Means going full into LTIR and giving up on banking cap though.

Likely will have to wait until closer to the trade deadline.

Quick look at who is available in the summer, slim pickings in a department that always has too much demand compared to the supply. Hill and Vejmelka the cream of the crop.

This is why home growing goalies is so important. But if we keep our D up, any quality NHL starter will get us there. Look at what happens to a lot of netminders that leave here.
