I looked back for 10 years of AHL defenders at guys who at 23+ were in top 5 in goals scored and where they are now.
Brad Hunt AHL/NHL Callup

And thats it. His low points, age and sudden high amount of goals all points to a statistical anomaly.
Even Brad Hunt was putting up high point total before that top 5 goal year.

The likelihood of Kesselring being an NHL player or really worth anything is quite low.
Brad Hunt is a 5'10" defender who could shoot the pill. Kesselring is an absolutely raw 6'5" beanpole who needs to mature physically with strong skating and offensive instincts. Worth the development time having left college early to play more games instead of losing a year with minimal competition. The two players are not equivalency by comparing production in two different eras and out of context of competition.

Not a player I give up for a journeyman UFA bottom roster guy. Have to look into the age 24 minor pro guy they get back.

Did any other Western team actually get better at this deadline so far?

Seems the onslaught of moves have all been in the East... crickets by comparison in the West.

Meh. Don't like the player, but a 3rd and Kesselring are peanuts. <14% odds of a 3rd rounder playing 100 NHL games and Kesselring is being overrated by many here.

Hope Kenny isn't done, still would like a RWer (plug and play guy, not a legit top 6er there's not enough room) for McDavid and a bottom pair RHD.
I would expect that Bjugstad may well be that plug and play RW.

My point is, his sudden offensive production means absolutely nothing, ESPECIALLY with his low total points.
Could he be a decent guy in the future? Maybe.
But absolutely nothing about him points to being anything more than an AHL journeyman, or the occasional call up from a bottom team.

Possibly. That was 4 years ago things do change, especially with context. That was all my point was.

His kids or his wife’s lucrative career haven’t changed. That’s my counterpoint.

I would put a snowballs chance in hell Zucker would play in Edmonton. Maybe Winnipeg but they’d need an airport.

I don't think he would come here either.

You realize Kesslering is 23 years old already as well. D-men take awhile to develop, yes, but the odds of him developing into anything more than a bottom pairing d-man ala Desharnais aren’t much greater than Dineens at this point.

La added Gavrikov which is nothing really and Korpisalo which should be an improvement on Quick but could possibly be worse.

I think we are the only Western team with a substantial improvement.
Like I said earlier we are now in prime position to be top spot in the WC when the season ends.

That would home ice until the finals

We're talking about a 6'5'' guy in his second AHL season vs. a 5'10" guy in his fifth.

It's pretty obvious one guy is a lot more likely to do anything at the next level.

And kesselring is shooting like 4x his historical average so likely some strong reversion on shooting percentage

2% is a lot higher than 1% for sure.
At the end of the day , its nothing to be upset over.

Quick makes them worse... unless he really turns into some sort of Darth Vader and taps into "The Force" to defeat the Kings when/if they meet in the playoffs. Maybe Quick uses a Golden Vadar helmet.
LA I am your father you shouldn’t have sent me to die in Ohio now you will pay

Kesselring's shot rates went from 1.4 per game to 3.2 per game this season.

Obviously there's been some significant development in how he goes about shooting. It isn't all just pure luck.

I think I would prefer trying to strike a little bigger with yam + shore (down) for the cap space.

Would leave us about $4M and with some retention we could get a fairly decent top 6 player

I think it's a bad move depending on Yammer to make it through the playoffs. Unfortunately he is the weak link. Fix that any way you can and we are much more likely to have a good run.

Also add another cheap RD and we'll be cooking with gas!
