Kane - McD - Sheary
Hyman - Drai - RNH
Kostin - Bjugstad - Yams
Foegele - McLeod - Janmark
Ryan

Nurse - Ceci
Ekholm - Bouchard
Kulak - TVR

Meh. Don't like the player, but a 3rd and Kesselring are peanuts. <25% odds of a 3rd rounder playing 100 NHL games and Kesselring is being overrated by many here.

Hope Kenny isn't done, still would like a RWer (plug and play guy, not a legit top 6er there's not enough room) for McDavid and a bottom pair RHD.

Kesselring is 45th in AHL dman points, he is high in goals for sure but it all points to just a good year rather than another step.
It's not about his production at this stage. It's for me about the very raw toolkit with the player, behemoth size, strong skating ability, and solid offensive instincts. Very very raw player who is physically immature leaving college early during covid seasons to jump into pro level competition to play more games and speed development process. However, a goal producer this early in pro and the toolkit to substantively grow the breadth of his game is not a guy I would mortgage on a UFA journeyman player.

Yes but he still had term left.
ITs much different moving to a city for a few years or going to go live out of hotels for a couple months to win a cup.

These are human beings.

A couple months - if we went to the finals it’s actually 4 months not two - away from your family with young children isn’t worth it to many people. He’s one of those many people.

You have kids?

Stauffer had Alan May on and he said he would absolutely shocked if Wilson was moved. Which tells me that it would take an absolute mountain to pry him out of there.

This Tom Wilson talk is stupid. Not happening.

Such a raw package with his size and skating. Came out of college early during covid era. Think Kesselring is only starting to show the tip of the iceberg with his potential. Loved what I saw of the player. Overpay to use for an end of roster UFA journeyman, imo. Will need to look into Dineen who I didn't see as part of the deal coming back.
I looked back for 10 years of AHL defenders at guys who at 23+ were in top 5 in goals scored and where they are now.
Brad Hunt AHL/NHL Callup

And thats it. His low points, age and sudden high amount of goals all points to a statistical anomaly.
Even Brad Hunt was putting up high point total before that top 5 goal year.

The likelihood of Kesselring being an NHL player or really worth anything is quite low.

To add to this, before people point out to Desharnais he is an incredibly rare exception, not the rule.

Ok Ken go get Connor Sheary now. Doesn't look like any D options out there, but I wouldn't mind a veteran D add. We are pretty thin if we have injuries.

I am not saying its nothing, and I know 4 months isn't worth it to a lot of people.
I am just saying, just because he didn't want to live for a few years away from his family, doesn't mean he wouldn't be willing to for a few months for a shot at a cup. Plenty of players have done that.

Thanks for the analysis! Much appreciated

Everyone saying we're highly likely done, and yet we're a David Perron away from a Stanley Cup, so... should we be done?

OT quote from the summer just for some laughs

"“Quite frankly, I think the city and us as an organization has taken some body shots. Quite frankly, it pisses me off. This is a wonderful community. I think anybody that lives here is privileged to live in a wonderful community. We’ve got a team that I think is a top team in the league, a team that’s competing every year to be a Stanley Cup champion, and we’re going to continue to do that.”"

I think we are done in the sense that everything Holland felt we needed to do is done. However if an opportunity presents itself he would still go for it.
At this point we have 0 dollars so everything is literally money out money in. Perron has term, everyone else requires retention or say Yamamoto going out.
I think Holland is comfortable where we are at but for sure would jump at something if it came up.

He was pretty adamant he wasn’t going to move far from home. Doubt he has changed his mind.

For all the complaining about giving up Kesslering I feel like no one’s considering Dineen as a prospect.

He’s one year older, has better numbers historically in the AHL that Kesslering (including this year), has actually played at an NHL level last year, and was drafted with higher pedigree.

Now I know the size and trends for Kesslering are heading upwards but it’s not like we added a hopeless 32 year old AHL journeyman here.
