Jokinen is a fine player and may be the better choice for where the Oilers have weaknesses, but there is a certain aura to Jagr and the way he has helped other young players in this league is incredible.

His and his teammates corsi numbers of players playing with them compared to other players is amazing to see as well.

Jokinen will do fine, but Jagr could be the missing piece to really push the Oilers to the next level.

Bryan, they can't offersheet McDavid, he wasn't an RFA.

Just saying IF he got to RFA then maybe it'd make sense.

On the bolded, all we got was "interesting day". ST wasn't wrong

Exactly. Even then something may have fallen through, it happens.

Honestly he might be a better fit than Jagr for the simple fact that he kills penalties and is a faceoff guy. Having another guy who can take defensive zone faceoffs to spell of Letestu would be a big help. One right shot, one left shot.

For all the talk of our LW being stacked, it really isn't. Our top 2 guys are Maroon and Lucic, but after that it's Caggiula and who? Khaira out of position? We're not exactly deep on either wing.

Jagr has been a dream of mine for years, but I would be lying to myself if 50% of that desire wasn't just to see him put on an Oiler jersey regardless of what he actually brings to the table at this stage of his career.

Jokinen seems to bring a lot to the table, good wheels, one shot scorer, shootout specialist, experience and he'd be someone that Puljujarvi could lean on and learn from. Jagr would be a nice fit but he'd need to be willing to come here at a reasonable cap hit ~$4 million for 1 year.

Maybe we push for both. If Jaromir isn't getting calls then maybe we land him on a bargain deal later in the summer?

God damnit I actually try to get some work done this afternoon and miss all the fun.

My bet is Jagr. He's been rumoured to be open to coming to Edmonton as far back as when Hemsky played here. IMO we still have a clear and present need at RW.

Slow boots, but the man can still flat out play and he would help this team.

Maroon-McDavid-Drai
Lucic-RNH-Jagr
Caggiula-Strome-Puljujarvi
Slepyshev-Letestu-Kassian
Khaira, Pakarinen

Probably forgot someone, but damn. I'd be all over that. Can you think of a better mentor than Jagr for JP? I sure can't.

Would be ecstatic if we signed Jagr, would look very good alongside Draisaitl

If we signed Jokinen, I'd be playing him on the top line with Mcdavid. He's a far better winger then center from what I've seen. Maroon would drop down to 3rd line and Caggiula plays 4th line.

Jokinen-Mcdavid-Draisaitl
Lucic-RNH-Puljujarvi/Strome
Maroon-Strome/Letestu-Kassian
Caggiula-Letestu/Khaira-Pakarainen

A tank will always be a fixture on McDavids line. Maroon or Lucic right now. Or perhaps a Kassian sighting.

Jokinen is very reliable and versatile, will mentor pulju. He is also said to be smart as far as knowing the game goes. There is a set play he is very good at, which was used both in Pittsburgh and on the Finnish team.

I'd bet money it is Jokinen and I won't be mad.

Jagr won't sign in Edmonton. But why do people make such an issue of his footspeed? It has never been his thing. His calling card has always been puck control and shooting. Put him with McDavid and Maroon and the other team will never see the puck.

Oh sweet, young, impressionable "ThePhoenixx"...there is no tanking anymore with the lottery and the wise guidance of the league ececutive office.

See! You're only as young as you feel!

I'm going out to buy a firetruck! :)

I don't see a world where the Oilers keep RNH after this coming season.

After Draisaitl signs, they'll have 60M committed to 13 players. Maybe Letestu will take a bit of a haircut and stay in the same dollar range, but you have to think that Maroon is just gone. If either Strome or Cagguila have too good of a year, the Oilers may have to move them too.

I know there is a world where this guy thrives. Of all the high picks that have gone south on the club he seems the most inexplicable. One more bad or even mediocre year and his value will drop like a stone. There are clubs out there desperate for anything close to a top 6 center so he has a decent market value today.

As far as finding a 3rd line C who can win some faceoffs, better to chase that player than try to convert RNH into Mike Peca and screw him up. Strom was a machine in junior so why not try him there for a bit?
