This organization could not win a "heads I win tails you lose" coin flip. Unbelievable. Lets' examine the evidence......
  • get a steal of a defensemen in the 6th round - throat sliced open in a freak boating accident
  • lose a Vezina caliber goalie to a car accident
  • Oskar Lindblom coming into his own -- cancer
  • trade everything but the kitchen sink for all world Lindros only to find out, for all his skill, he can't skate with his head up
  • Worst record in the league by a wide margin only to get the 2nd OA pick in a 1-player draft
  • Gifted a #2 OA. Maybe our luck is changing. Nope. Flyers being Flyers blow it. They go for the injury prone (and he was injury prone before the NHL), big Canadian
  • #5OA pick does not want to be associated with the organization
  • and now Michov
What am I leaving out? Or are all organizations like this?

Bernie Parent injury in 1976 likely cost the Flyers a 3rd straight Cup.
Bernie Parent eye injury ended his career in 1979.
The Leon Stickle offsides call in the 1980 Finals.
Tim Kerr injury likely cost the Flyers a Cup in 1987.

I'm sure there's more.

Flyers top defensive prospect Jiri Latal leaving the NHL at age 24 to go back to Europe due to injuries... was done at age ~26.

The Flyers beat the Lightning with a healthy blue line in 04 and beat Calgary for the Cup. Only reason Torts has his ring.

Considering what happened to everyone else you listed, this was probably a great career move for him
Looks like Keenan was the main factor for him eventually retiring...

However, Bergen often clashed with Flyers' coach Mike Keenan, whom Bergen felt criticized him far too often, and their relationship never improved. According to Bergen, Keenan made him do two-a-day workouts on and off the ice after he came back and made sure that players would stand guard to make sure that Bergen did what he was supposed to do, all while he still had his abdominal injury. As a result, Bergen refused to report to training camp the following year, and was promptly suspended by the Flyers. Bergen said he lost his love for the game because of Keenan and the Flyers, and announced his retirement in September 1985 to pursue a professional golfing career. He was then suspended by the Flyers for refusing to report to training camp.

The Spinal Tap of NHL franchises!

He blocks so many shots for such a skilled player. Very good at it too.
Good sign. Shows he has the competitive drive to win, b/c he could easily slough off on defense and HC would look the other way (happens all the time at lower levels and on some NHL teams).

Bobby Clarke would do anything to win. I think he had a somewhat productive career.

If Michkov is half the player of Clarke, I'll be happy.

Bobby was never fast, but he did have the highest hockey IQ of any Flyer. He knew where the puck was heading and skated there. Hell or high water he retrieved the puck. And before hand knew where to pass that puck

Again, if Michkov is half the player of Clarke, I'll be happy.

Bobby was a second round pick because he was diabetic, type 1 { and back then was less treatable by a longshot over today]

Michkov was a 7th pick OA, because he is Russian with a 3 year contract.

And again, if Michkov is half the player of Clarke, I'll be happy.

The best forechecker this team has ever seen, too, in my opinion.

Putting them side by side (without equivalent training, diet etc), Michkov is already a better and more impactful player than Clarke was in his prime.
Woaah Nelly. Let's see Michkov do it on NHL ice.
Clarke, Lafleur, Esposito, Orr and Potvin dominated their era.
We'll see if Michkov become one of the top five players in the NHL.
