Well, I guess the rubber now meets the road, because they can't eff this up. There's a lot here: new country, new language, new league, new schedule, new teammates, smaller ice surface, huge expectations. They almost need to treat this like he's defecting, where the off-ice stuff is more important than the on-ice stuff. The talent is huge (obvious alert), but so is the learning curve. Has there been a more high-profile Russian who has come to NA at a younger age? Those expecting him to seamlessly light it up right out of the gate are probably going to be disappointed. For me, success will be him playing in 50 games, scoring 25 points and spending the year getting accustomed to life here without any significant drama.
Morgan Frost suddenly became more valuable because he's really the only center on the roster who can play with him. I know, they have just about the weakest center group in the NHL, but still.
Edit: Actually, they do have another center on the roster who has the skill to play with Michkov, but I'm not sure he'll ever see the ice. I'm most interested in centers who can play with Michkov in 2-3 years or more.
