I think the funniest Zherdev story is when he first saw Panotch when he got here he thought Panotch was like some KGB agent or some shit & got scared.

I can’t imagine him thinking that about Simple Sam.

Its hard to get excited for this kid, knowing that there is a decent chance Torts f***s up his development, or makes him want to ask out of Philly.

He’s on a line with who exactly. Frost, and Tippet? I dunno.

Kid is going to be target number one for opposing teams. See how he holds up. Would love someone to actually cheer for.

You realize he just left an organization where he was the top player and the coach played him 3 minutes a night and then loaned him to the worst team in the league?

I think he’ll be just fine.
Plus Torts publicly stated that he’s preparing the team for “The Mad Russian”. I think your assumptions of Torts are not that accurate.

Torts did eventually take the leash of TK and let him do his thing, I dunno. It's summer, I'll worry about Flyers stuff later

I think Torts is a POS that wouldn’t get away with what he does in a regular job.

And Nahh I didn’t know the hx. Cool I guess

I’ve seen the same. It’s why I think they may be considering moving him to C as well. Crosby is also just 5’11 - but thick - and is really described as a player who is an elite grinder. MM has a rump on him as well and from draft day photos seems a couple inches taller than DB who is 5.9, so he may be around 5’11 as well.

MM is elite on the boards, behind the net, strong at breaking the puck out from the d zone. I dunno, just a hunch. He has good skills all around but an ultra elite IQ.

I think this is why they want Pinto so bad, so they can have some size up the middle.

Just watched MM’s post draft interview and he confirmed his height at ~5’11 and weight at the time at ~179.

That was last year. My guess is he’s probably up 5-7 lbs now and will show up at 185. Crosby plays around 195.

If there has been one consistency with the Flyers since the start of the salary cap, no matter what they do, it's the wrong choice.

He's probably going to get bit by a chipmunk and contract hantavirus. Regardless, it can't end well.

only reason i am not hyped about the kid is...I've already heard too much about him
How can you not be hyped about Michkov lol.. dude is literally the first transcendent young talent we've had since Lindros?? He's literally the biggest reason I won't miss a game next year.

Michkov is so intriguing because, aside from his lacrosse goals and occasional clever move, I find his highlights relatively… unspectacular? He isn’t a Demidov-style dangler, he doesn’t wire the puck like Bedard, he doesn’t burn people like Cooley.

He’s just always involved on the puck and creates an insane number of chances by being “there” and tenaciously chasing chances.

Much more of a Crosby style attacker than anyone else. I know this is what we call “hockey IQ” and “hockey sense”… it’s just remarkable that a player can be so prolific without necessarily scoring elite marks on the more visible skills. Will be fascinating to see what he can turn into.
The way people describe his game you wonder why he's not playing center. That's where players like that belong and where they can influence the game the most. But maybe he'll switch to center at some point.

Torts isn’t the idiot we think he is. I think he will run with Michkov, the new face of the franchise, because if he f***s this one up, Briere and Jones both will look like clowns for keeping him around. When other peoples jobs are on the line, these cockroaches have a way of doing just enough to keep themselves around.
You sweet summer child.

As Match TV learned, SKA will terminate the contract with striker Matvey Michkov on Tuesday .

The St. Petersburg club will terminate the contract with the 19-year-old forward, but will retain sports rights to him in the Kontinental Hockey League. It is expected that Michkov will continue his career with the NHL Philadelphia Flyers.

Michkov was selected by the Flyers in the first round, 7th overall, in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, he scored 41 points (19+22) in 47 matches for Sochi, where he played on loan.

Legit don't know, is Match TV a big deal?

Well, I guess the rubber now meets the road, because they can't eff this up. There's a lot here: new country, new language, new league, new schedule, new teammates, smaller ice surface, huge expectations. They almost need to treat this like he's defecting, where the off-ice stuff is more important than the on-ice stuff. The talent is huge (obvious alert), but so is the learning curve. Has there been a more high-profile Russian who has come to NA at a younger age? Those expecting him to seamlessly light it up right out of the gate are probably going to be disappointed. For me, success will be him playing in 50 games, scoring 25 points and spending the year getting accustomed to life here without any significant drama.

Morgan Frost suddenly became more valuable because he's really the only center on the roster who can play with him. I know, they have just about the weakest center group in the NHL, but still.

Edit: Actually, they do have another center on the roster who has the skill to play with Michkov, but I'm not sure he'll ever see the ice. I'm most interested in centers who can play with Michkov in 2-3 years or more.

If you think Michkov is scoring 25 points in 50 games you've never watched this guy play in Russia. Since I've been watching hockey, I've seen few prospects like this guy, he's in a very, very rare territory. I'm not saying he won't have rough patches, but this guy is #1 overall pick material in almost any draft outside Mcdavid / Crosby type drafts. This is the first time in a long-time I'm excited to be a fan of the Flyers.

What I wrote was: "For me, success will be him playing in 50 games, scoring 25 points and spending the year getting accustomed to life here without any significant drama."

What I also wrote is that the expectations better be tempered by the inevitable rough patches, or they'll screw this thing up.
