Michkov has 3 seasons in the KHL.
There's no rush.
At some point he'll get on the ice and force the HC to play him.
It's not like a little humility and focus on fundamentals will erode his offensive skill set.

He's still 18, I'm more concerned with how he progresses to 21 than whether he leads the KHL in scoring this season.
He will be playing the least of any of the top 10 picks. Another wasted top 10 pick. At least the Flyers might sign 450 year old Simmonds

Michkov is in the KHL at 18, playing in the second best league in the world, not in the CHL, playing against 16-19 years old.
Even if he only plays on a part-time basis this season, and practices against men, his development will be much faster than in the CHL.
And if he's as good as advertised, it's just a matter of time before he forces his HC to play him - because you got to win to keep your job in the KHL.
I don't think it's time to panic over being benched for the first game of the season.

Is it ever time to panic though?

I expect Michkov to force Rotenberg's hand, but it may take some time.
Roma loves his 2-way vets.....presumably because they are the easiest to coach. His coaching abililty was exposed when he lead the recent U25's vs Belarus. He was downright pitiful.
I mean who cares if SKA has an enormous stable of young talent in the system when you can practically buy any FA you want.
Throwing money around is how they obtained Michkov on the junior level too. He's essentially a product of Lokomotiv.

But at the very least Michkov will benefit from SKA's facilities, which are arguably the best outside North America. And their development coach was just hired by Carolina, however he said he'd work for both teams this year. How he'll do that Ive no clue. But that's what he said.

... says the person who repeatedly advocates for prospects to get sent down and play big roles in LHV rather than making the big club.

Russian development is the worst. Part of the reason I thought people needed to pump the brakes a bit.

I think you’re seeing the advantage of playing on a team like Sochi last year. Like yeah the guys around him might not be that great relative to the rest of the league but given that also they had no choice but to play him & do so a good bit. They couldn’t get stubborn even if they wanted to like SKA. SKA is probably gonna be one of the best team’s in the KHL regardless of Michkov plays for them or not. They can hockey guy it up with him & it’s not really consequential to their bottom line results.

What's interesting to me is that Demidov, who is a year younger, played in the first game and is playing today but no sign of Michkov. Coach like Demidov more?

I wonder if this is Rotenberg making it clear that just because Michkov is a high draft pick with a lot of hype, he won't be forced to play him - a control freak move. Then a few weeks now, after he's made his point, Michkov starts getting real PT b/c Rotenberg would like to keep his job. If he benches his most talented player and the team under performs, he'll feel a lot of heat.

SKA is a powerhouse in the KHL. They're not going to be in a position where the coach is feeling heat and needs to play Michkov.

The best thing for Michkov is to be loaned put again because there is never going to be pressure for him to regularly be in the lineup.
