I must add that since there hasn’t been any international competition for team Russia in the last 2 years, the hype around Michkov in Russia has dwindled down, at least in the media. I think the fact he wasn’t picked top 3 also played a role in it as most people in Russia have no clue how draft works
All the pressure is on first Russian selected, inexplicably, 6th: Simachev.

Michkov being developed by SKA vs the Flyers…..

gotta say really sucks watching this when the only thing you care is too see him

The argument for not selecting Michkov was never a question of talent or really contract. It was shit like this happening along the way during said contract. There are success stories ofc, but the Russian development model is as old school as it gets. The two success stories people point to - Panarin and Kaprizov - those guys actually played big minutes in their D+1. Something will have to give at some point, but this is less than ideal.

Charlottetown holds his CHL rights. :sarcasm:

The only fear that I have with MM and the Flyers is that he has the screws put on him and is forced to extend his current deal. Right now with Russia not allowed to participate in play outside of its own country, there’s little way available to smuggle him out of the country. It’s going to be a tough time here.

On the new STG episode yesterday

- ASF said that he has spoken to a number of people in the Flyers organization, including people "very high up" in the organization, along with an NHL scout, and it is believed that the Michkov scratchings are about "knocking him down a few pegs" after all the hype he had this summer.

- ASF was also told "like last season, Michkov is likely going to ultimately end up on loan to another KHL team." However, with his dad's death he has some difficulty with returning to Sochi, which confirms what Sochi's coach said this offseason:

Dmitry Kokorev commented on the departure of Matvey Michkov from Sochi.

In the 2022/23 season, Michkov played for the club on loan from SKA .

- Did you want to keep Matvey Michkov in Sochi for the next season?

- We knew that Matvey would return to SKA from loan. Anyway, that's the rule.

But everyone knows what events happened in his family in the spring. Matthew's father passed away. Prior to that, he expressed a desire to play for Sochi, he would gladly stay with us. But after the tragedy, Matvey admitted that it would be hard for him to play here. He said that everything here reminds of this.

If he is psychologically ready to live and play in Sochi, our management, I am sure, will enter into appropriate negotiations with his club, - said the Sochi head coach.

lol..

this is going to end so shockingly bad...

right on brand

Meh, he has three years in the KHL, by year three he'll be among the league leaders in scoring.
He'll get on the ice this year, either with SKA or someehere else, and once he plays on a regular basis, he won't sit again.

Lol

Who is SKA's coach, Tortorella's Russian cousin?

What a f***ing dumb reason to scratch him

Wasted #7 to go along with our wasted #2 from 2017.....

I love how people overreact to everything.
I mean there were legitimate gripes in the past, overpaying for Risto and TDA, etc.

But come on, Michkov will end up playing somewhere this season and will be a top six forward in the KHL by next season.
And if this puts a chip on his shoulder ("I'll show that asshole . . .") all the better.

Oh those are mistakes now? Recently you were arguing neither one was.
