Flyers don't draft BPA; they draft by need. As with everything else a flawed process
So we needed a Right Winger? And that's why we drafted Michkov? LOL. Literally the most stacked position we currently have.

And we "needed" two more goalies when we've already got an impressive goalie pipeline?

Just stop with this nonsense lol. They MAYBE drafted for need with one pick (Bonk). And even that is questionable, since most mocks had Bonk going right where he went.

Careful ....making sense around here can get you into trouble.

They goalie thing is kinda worrisome though considering the potential news on Hart. Especially trading up for one

Actually Demidov succeeds on moves like this pretty often, and he's just 17. When he comes to NHL at age 20 he'll be able to outstickhandle 3 players with way better chances than most NHLers.
Ehhh. That remains to be seen tbh. He did it in the MHL. Which is essentially akin to doing it in the CHL. And we see crazy dangles and 1 on 3 goals in the CHL from prospects that go in the 2nd, 3rd, even 4th round.

I'm not saying Demidov isn't good. He's a fantastic prospect. Probably will go top 5 if he doesn't extend his KHL contract or there isn't more upheaval in Russia, but he's not on Michkov's level.

He has a long way to go and even if your statement does come to be true, the important part of your statement is "way better chances than most NHLers" which is to say that trying to stickhandle through 3 defenders is still an insanely low percentage play. If the normal NHLer succeeds at it 5% of the time and Demidov succeeds 10%, he's way above average, but that's still a play that results in a turnover 90% of the time.

Like I said, the flashy play is often not the best play. Michkov has the crazy handles/dangles when the situation requires it but what he possesses that makes him generational in my opinion is that innate hockey sense to know exactly the right play to make in every situation. He thinks the game at such a high level and processes information on the ice so quickly. Demidov is nowhere close in that respect.

Honestly, they got pretty good value in that "trade up". In all likelihood, the 2nd round pick we gave up next year will be "worse" (further down in the 2nd round) than the one we got. We got 51 and we owe them the LA Kings 2nd rounder next year (the Kings 2nd rounder was 54th overall this year and they've gotten better IMO this offseason). And to trade up a year in the draft for "only" a 6th round pick as the sweetener is fantastic value.

The Carter Hart situation is worrisome, but there's nothing the Flyers can do about that and it's certainly not their fault. They also aren't drafting for "need" as a result of that when goalie prospects typically aren't ready for 4-5 years+. Even a worst case scenario would likely only see Hart suspended for a year. The PR damage and damage to his trade value might last longer, but that's a different topic.

The Flyers also have maybe the most loaded pipeline of goalie prospects in the league with Ersson, Kolosov, and now Fedotov back in the mix. Adding to that with Bjarnason and Zavragin certainly wasn't for "need". It was obviously BPA.

Shouldn't be setting up so many offensive chances. Should be focusing on dump and chase and then grinding for the next 30 seconds. Torts will observe this from the press box
This is what actual talent looks like. Imagine being able to focus on improving your responsibility on the defensive end while still scoring goals and creating chances. What a novel idea. And he's even doing it while playing a completely foreign position

If the Flyers did this with one of their prospects, 95% of this board would say we were "ruining" him and "setting him up to fail".

enjoy his hilites now..

when he gets here Torts will stamp all of his flash out of his game right away
If Michkov is backchecking and hustling like that, Torts will do nothing of the sort. He let Panarin and Seth Jones run and gun, and flash and dash, all the time in Columbus. Torts doesn't like the showing off and dipsy doodling by players taking short cuts just to ham it up for YouTube. There's a difference.

IMO - hardest thing as a center is when you are breaking out in your own zone without the puck. You need to know where everyone is at, you have to be ready to receive a pass and most likely push the puck forward again. You also have to be ready to fill in a gap if your Dman loses the puck or gets intercepted with everyone on your team thinking we’re going forward and fast.

Your brain is everywhere….Sometimes you need to find soft spots to get open, sometimes need to drag defenders to get your wingers open, and sometimes you need to flat out make a play and get the puck past the blue line.

So many variables, it’s such a hard position to play, even harder to learn.

If he actually excels as a C, this could be a very promising development for the Flyers.

we all want them to draft a stud 1C but flyers management is like "we have centers at home" lol michkov has looked really good at center and i have a feeling he stays there and thats awesome, hes a way better playmaker than he's been given credit for but its funny when we have Cates and Gauthier already moving to C

Just need one of them (Cutter or Matvei) to stick and we’re good. Or just get Celebrini in this draft.

Lol no

The people who always pronounce what the board will do never ever seem to have their finger on the pulse of this place

Further proof to the concept of drafting BPA.

Imagine reaching for a center last month instead of taking a RW.

So I think his role in the regular is going to be 3C, and his linemates will be Zykov and Demidov (I hope). Zykov is a former Pens' prospect, was good in the AHL but couldn't make the NHL. Now in the KHL he's a solid top9 player, big and physical, who can score from time to time. Of coutse the team's management can move Zykov to the 2nd line and play Gritsyuk with Michkov and Demidov, especially give they keep finding chemistry with each new preseson game.

I'm pretty sure all top three lines are going to be interchangeable on the team.

I'm big on drafting Demidov even if just for the fact that he and Michkov are friends. (obviously take BPA). Synergy really big.

IDK how to feel about Michkov at Center in the NHL. I think it's good he's getting more work on his defensive game but hoping hes the flyers 1C of the future is a bit much.

Can never have too many centers on the roster though. They can slot anywhere.
