Speculation: Roster/Trade Discussion Thread: Draft and FA addition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Based on the reports it feels 100% like Rangers are being used to extract the max possible out of St Louis (or an unnamed 3rd team).

Rangers don’t leak, and the massive media heads said this first but with no follow up after. Then our beat writers basically say they got nothing.
Or - it’s just the Rangers involved and someone is trying to use the blues angle (and all of their first round assets) to drive up the price on Drury.

Get out and worry about selling not buying you idiot

The Blues aren’t just looking for talented young players, though. They’re looking for help at center.

Robert Thomas is the clear-cut No. 1 there, but having McTavish could ease the burden on Dalibor Dvorsky, who was the No. 10 pick in 2023.

Dvorsky, 21, played his first full NHL season in 2025-26 and showed glimpses of excellence with 12 goals and 21 points in 71 games. He also tied Jimmy Snuggerud for the team lead in power-play goals with five.

Having McTavish and Dvorsky in the middle on the second and third lines would strengthen the position.

Just read the Anaheim version of this thread. It is EERIE. The way they talk about McTavish is exactly the same as the way we talk about Schneider. The only two consistent viewpoints over there is that they are all mostly glad to be getting rid of him and they all recognize that the 5th overall would be a stupid expectation. At the same time, several of them think they can get Gavrikov+. Some of them expect Lafreniere. One of them wanted Fox. One wanted Scheider AND Cuylle. The more I look at it, the more Schneider for McTavish straight up makes the most sense. I also feel like they are trying to work the media to get Drury to bargain against himself and put more $$ in the pot.

Hopefully Drury is a little smarter than the average Anaheim fan. I look at McTavish as a pretty good young player who's kind of underwhelmed his NHL expectations and we've been through that here with both Kakko and Lafreniere. Sometimes too it takes a while---Lafreniere was not have a very good year until after the Rangers moved on from Panarin and then he picked it up quite a lot and hopefully he'll at least be at the same level next year if not better. Patience can pay off sometimes.

McTavish is I think about a year younger---3 40 point seasons and 1 50 point season. He got stuck behind Leo Carlsson on a team that also had Trevor Zegras until last year. He's never had the chance to be the go to guy there pretty much like Lafreniere never got it here. He probably needs a change of scenery if he's ever going to make the next step as a player.

Honestly, if I'm Anaheim, I take the Blues offer and see if you can get the Ruck twins.

That would be nice if it happened. Better players than the Ruck's then might fall to the Rangers at 26. I see Liam maybe as a late 1st--possible 2nd and his brother should be a mid second maybe a little later. Yes---they tore up the WHL last year but CHL leagues aren't as strong as they use to be and the best one IMO is the OHL. Also....they're still kids so I'll give them leeway because of that but I'm not keen on them trying to package themselves together to the same team. I want a player I draft to stand on their own and not have to play games later on with them.....that this one is here and the other one is still trying to make it because it's likely that one of them is going to struggle more than the other. It could turn into a real soap opera. I definitely would not use two 1st rounders on them.
