Speculation: Roster/Trade Discussion Thread: Draft and FA addition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

Speculation: - Roster/Trade Discussion Thread

*Plan is to have a GDT for the Draft. Not sure about one for FA. We shall see how that goes.

This is the best the NY media has to offer on the Rangers. No wonder we're at each others throats. Utter slop.

What Vince means to say is that a James Dolan team had a complete revolution and he let it happen, so we can't just say "oh but Dolan" anymore, and the noose is squarely around Drury's neck.

That could have been a tweet, but Vince doesn't have the guts to say it, so he's talking about a fitness director.

If the noose is around Drury's neck, we're gonna be buyers the next couple weeks. Thats been my fear all along.

You're 100% right about Vince too. All his articles are passive aggressive toward the Gm because he's been shutout of any scoops. His entire job description now is just retweeting the work of Scott Wheeler and Pierre Lebrun as his own.

drury has brought literally nothing but misery and failure. we’re pretty much cooked til dolan wakes up and hes gone. at the very least if he has an awful offseason and we suck again i think hes gone by next year

I think its more nuanced than that but if the GM thinks his job is at stake if he doesn't win soon that's a disaster for us, meaning the fans. So much worse damage can be done in a year.

On the other hand, if Drury got fired today, a new GM wouldn't come in and look at the situation and say "this is a rebuild" when half the team is on immovable contracts for the next 3+ seasons. There's too much focus on one guy, rather than the situation. That's my frustration. Assigning fault to 1 place is pointless when the fault lies with all components of the organization, past and present.

Why can't Berard just come into camp and compete for a job? Why does every dime a dozen player need the red carpet rolled out for them? And I like Berard's game, but if this is the attitude he has he'll never make it anywhere.

I think he sees the writing on the wall and perhaps he feels Sullivan is not a fan?

he accelerated it all. all of a sudden we went from a team who couldnt stop getting players to try coming here to a team that no one wants to go to. hes completely destroyed the teams reputation. whether its because we suck or because players absolutely hate him, it doesnt matter. facts are facts. at this point im just biding my time waiting for him to f*** up so bad he cant come back from it. i have a very bad feeling about whats to come. he’s a chimp with a machine gun.

Maybe its a good thing that every aging star who wants to spend his twilight years in NY dont want to come anymore. A lot has happened since but the Rangers ran back the same team after 2024, the only change being Reilly Smith in, Goodrow out. its been 2 years of misery since. I blame the players for a lot of it. Drury is a do nothing, but he doesnt lace up the skates. Gorton and Drury both have capitulated to the whims of the players far too much. It's why I keep saying they should hire Pat Brisson as GM. Dolan can afford it.

yeah i certainly wouldnt mind going down the agent route when drury is gone.

Dolan's newfound competence coupled with his very public backing of Drury on multiple occasions, tells me more is going on with this team than meets the eye. If Brooks were still alive, we'd know about it imo. Vince' article today is not the first time he has brought up Quentin Dolan's rising influence at MSG. I have no clue if thats good or bad but its something.

Yeah Zac Jones thought the same thing.
Berard is waiver eligible. He's also a pending RFA with arbitration rights.

So, option 1 is to stick around, sign a contract, then wait until training camp where he either makes the team (unlikely if Sullivan isn't a fan), or he gets waived, and then has to hope someone claims him or he'll be stuck on a shit Hartford team for another year.

The other option, the one that makes a lot more sense, is to ask for a trade now. If another team trades for him, that means they actually have an interest/need for him, and maybe he has a better shot of making the NHL.

This might be his only chance at actually having an NHL career. I don't begrudge any of these players making decisions that they believe to be in their best interest.

since the knicks won ive been praying that dolan sees what he did philosophically with the knicks and applies it to the rangers.

either this championship galvanizes dolan to really fix the rangers right, or he could completely go all in on the knicks now and just let the rangers rot.

im worried the second option is very possible

Entitlement is apparently something we excel at developing *shurg*

Dolan isn’t somehow magically competent.

Let’s hold off on the testicle gargling for a bit.

If you wanna draw a comparison, in the summer of 2022, when Leon Rose was inking Jalen Brunson to play for the relatively directionless Knicks, Chris Drury was overseeing a roster that just went to the ECF.

How about that for a four-year side-by-side?

It is what it is, but it hasn't been a good tenure thus far.

2023 was a horror show between the Patrick Kane dance and the players and GM souring on Gallant. It was the time to actually take a big swing, not upend the entire program with a handicapped big name player.

We've talked about this a few times but I think we are all collectively forgetting this. Trochek has a $3m bonus which is set to be paid on 7/1 I believe. If there is a team out there who wants the player but would prefer the Rangers pay that bonus, a deal could be done but it's not getting completed until after the draft. In that case, the Rangers may be looking at 2027 picks rather than 2026.
