Speculation: Roster/Trade Discussion Thread: Draft and FA addition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I like McTavish. The numbers don’t look great, and he’s another slow forward. But he’s just 23 and the underlying numbers were solid in the playoffs.

If we can trade Gabe and keep him at the same time I say we do it.

Just based off the neck beard alone, I'm out on McTavish

Skating speed is way more important for defenseman than it is for forwards.

Panthers threw out a group of forwards who could barely move collectively and made 3 straight finals (winning 2 of them.) They just added another one who also can't move and everyone is creaming over it.

I actually like McTavish and think he could help us. That said everything comes down to 1. how much and 2. I don't like the idea of us getting in a bidding war for pretty much anybody. You figure out what you're willing to give up and you might try to underbid from that but you don't go any farther than what you're willing in the first place.

On the 26 overall though---we'd be very lucky to pick a forward at that spot who would end up better than McTavish and the guy chosen at that spot is probably at least 2/3 if not more years away. I wouldn't give up #5 for him.

As for his cap hit. League average cap hit next year will be close to $5. He's at $7 and long term. By the time his deal is up he'll probably be around average. It's not a big deal and the Rangers will have plenty of cap.
