Speculation: Roster/Trade Discussion Thread: Draft and FA addition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Hook it up Beeker. For old times sake.

Yeah that’s not good if 25 made them drop out, that means 26 isn’t good enough.

Schneider or I’m out too

Based on whats out there, I'd imagine Schenider+26 is on the table.

IDK if thats better than what St Louis is offering. They have some prospects and a bunch of picks (11,15,16,29?) So it really comes down to what is more appealing...

Schneider+26 OR 15 or 16?

29 obviously no and I don't think they move 11.

That’s too much, I hope we lose

I have an idea. Let’s make yet another expansion team that no one will want to play for.

I don't think it's the expansion team/location of it all. Didn't Washington pass a "millionaire's" tax recently or something like that? If so, 15m/per won't be nearly as much in Seattle as it would be anywhere else.

The real embarrassment is the wasted time. Why bother talking to Seattle, hammering out a potential trade, and giving permission for the two sides to speak if (as seems obvious) Robertson never intended to waive for Seattle? Wouldn't that be the FIRST thing to figure out?

ok, this is it, a revised opus

enjoy...

1. jtm + Schneider + Borgen + 2026 3rds (NYI + LAK) to Pit
for Horcoff, + Pit 2026 1st + WPG 2026 2d, return of nyr 2027 2nd and 1 of either PIT 2026 or 2027 2nd

I have revised this so Pens keep EKarlsson

jt waives b’c it is close ‘nuf to home, and it is clear R mgmt listening to bern and breaking up the vet band. Pens pivot depth is ancient, w/Sid at 40 and Geno just renewed 1 yr, the latter reduced in effectiveness. So whether 3C or top 6 W, jt is welcome. Pens also need Schneid and Borgen with Letang [also elder] and EK [no spring chicken] up there. 2 current 3rds this yr mitigate vs loss of return nyr 2nd next yr.

Rs will keep Horcoff and use picks or trade up

Pens have enuf cap to eat the whole nut.

2. Rs-MON
LaF + Cuylle + G Spencer Martin for Hage, MON 2026 1st + 2nd, 2027 1st, Reinbacher + Montembeault
If Habs want to pay us to take the cooked corpse of Gallagher, fine w/their add, and while not free, it will be a sweetheart sweetener below market rate.

While not adding a pivot, this is otherwise a big immediate help to Habs. Martin is drek, Monty is better but not much, and is a cap dump here. Gallagher is beyond cooked and at full pop is a cap dump. Hage is the only non-pick of signif value, Rein still has upside, but it is not clear he cannot stay healthy. Deal is ballpark cap neutral, important b’c MON is up vs cap.

Rs continue to gamble on vets for high end youth hoped to have upside.

3. Fox
for SJ 2026 1st [2OA] + SJ 2027 1st

So SJ, Fox is not elite but is superior RD with uber elite hockey sense, borderline par skating, etc. considered effective -> very effective w/correct partner. He is late 20s, 3 yrs, not cheap but not unreasonable for what he brings given higher end RD market.

Rs get 2 picks + still more cap relief, w/2OA can trade back 2x for profit

4. 2OA to VAN for 3OA and a small add

5. Shesty, Tro, DAL 2026 1st D prospects Emery + Gonchar + return of BUF 3rd
to BUF for CHI 1st 4OA, FL 1st 9OA, EDM 2026 1st 20OA

Sabes get 2 big pieces + 2 decent D prospects 2-ish yrs away
they don’t need Shesty w/27 yr old Luukkonen, but Igor has to be the main piece here added to Tro to get back the higher picks; howev, Lyon is decent and he can be immediately sold high. Luukkonen can begin as co-starter which = insane primo netminder insurance to start, but then can be sold high for awesome return

Rs get 3 high end picks

6. Rs-LA
Gav + Greentree + NYR 2026 3rd + McConnell Barker + Pars + Rads
for Clarke, Helenius, LAK 2027 1st

Gav and Clarke are close to a draw, w/Gav being older but more cost effective the life of their deals. BMB is now at best a middling prospect C, but a freebie pivot will be welcomed. Pars + Rads suck, but they are still bottom 6 stopgaps for 1 yr. Losing Helenius is a wince, but Ks want to improve immediately, as well as be strong for 3-5 yrs, and if bread still has enuf in the tank, entice Panarin to extend another year or two at a time. Greentree is their slightly bigger version of Gabe P [lite], and is close to ready.

Rs go younger to RD if they keep Clarke, add Helenius – bern loves those trees who can skate! Add a good mid level 1st.

7. Rs-WPG
Gabe Perrault + EDM 2026 1st 20OA acquired above
for 8OA and ‘peg 2027 1st top 3 protected

Gabe P would go top 10 in a redraft, is already here, contributing, elc, worth 8OA possibly a bit more. Oil 2026 1st at 20OA now is fair vs a delayed Winnipeg 1st next yr. Helps Winni now, but adds youth, helps Rs w/chance for more Ds or a C this round and adds for next yr

8. NY-NJ
Zib 8.5 reduced to 6 + 8OA wpg 2026 1st
for Hischier extended 5 yrs 14.2 per, Silayev, NJ 2026 1st (12OA)

Jersey wants more offensive production, and cap relief, esp structural cap relief. It was suggested on a mock trade board that Hisch goes from ‘untouchable’ to ‘have to think about it’ if he gets ballpark double-ish what he makes now med-long term. So, extending Hisch to 14.2 x 5 then flipping for Zib reduced 2.5 per to 6 is a solution that ballpark preserves pivot production for 4-5 years. Rs could wait and hope to entice Hisch as a ufa in a yr, so to pay for Rs to do a deal now AND eat a good chunk of cap on Meeka’s deal, they surrender a quality D prospect but upgrade on picks.

Rs will add Hisch and Silayev + lesser but still good pick, which can be flipped w/add for upgraded top 10 pick.

9. Rs-Flames
Robertson + Morrow + Clarke for CGY 5OA

Flames want D, a need after moving Raz Andy. Robertson + Morrow help, but Clarke is the key add here.

Rs take pick

10. Rs-SEA
NJ 2026 1st (12OA) + FL 2026 1st (9OA)
for 7OA + Shane Wright + rfa rights to Melanson

Kraken get 2 picks to move back 2 slots, give up Wright they want to move anyway, + tough guy Melanson

NY Times article suggests, w/apparent concurrence, that Kraken are on the way as a cohesive team, but to get to the next level, need more higher end talent, which Rs do not have to spare. So Rs will add acceptable picks to move up 2 spots.

11. Rs - ANA
Ducks not in trouble but could use cap for max $ available to Carlsson + others.
So Rs will use cap space.

NYR 2027, 2028, 2029 7ths [+ cap relief]
for
Helleson + Konnor Smith + Vatrano

______________

Rodrigues + Mikkola may be cap casualties in FL

TRANSLATION OF WHAT THAT MEANS:
NYR wind up w/3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, OAs + other good picks for 2026 + 2027.

If we assume McK + Stein top 2 off the boards, then Rs can draft Reid, Carels, Smits and Verhoff for their D and start to look at bpa Cs beginning w/Malhotra.

Roster – want to develop this yr, add top talent next yr’s draft, be ready to emerge like ANA.

Fs
Chmelar - Wright - Laba
Lamb - Kartye - Brodz
Eds - Roo - Rempe
Vatrano - Hel - Sykora
Melanson

Maholtra, Hage, Horcoff once ready which is likely 1-2 yrs
extra Fs: give Terrance a shot
Aspinall a yr + away
interested in how Spence, Terrance, Barnhill, develop

D
stopgap ________ - Silayev/Reinbacher
Fortescue - Helleson
Smith - Iorio
Reid, Carels, Smits and Verhoff once ready. Smits may be good to go now
Gs
Garand, Monty

tons of cap for when opportunity knocks/short term weaponizing
lots of picks

somethin like dat

gotta bolt
til later peeps
