Undersized career 41% faceoff guy. Looks like a lot of what we have a lot of already. Hard pass.

Raise the bar.

He's used on the wing in Arizona.

There are some interesting tidbits that point both to the Sabres having some interest and others that point to the Sabres having no interest.

Schmaltz has played for both Granato (Team USA and with the Blackhawks) and Appert (2017 WCs). He has also been teammates with guys like Tuch, Boosh, and Hinostroza.

One big negative is that his base salary is backloaded and it will be more than his cap hit for the remainder of his deal. That could be an issue with the Sabres, along with the roster fit.

Maybe if they want to get him to replace VO. But, my guess is that they want a kid like Kulich to do that.

Well said. The backloading and the future trade clause protection are both strikes against him, as is him playing a role they have scads of prospects to graduate into - namely scoring line wing.

Carolina is apparently sniffing around him as well, so it'll be interesting if they snap him up in the summer as a possible Svech/Pax replacement or fill-in.

Does Kane wanna play for Buffalo next season? Any indications he Will sign in Buffalo ? I dont say we need him But if he wants and for lower cap he could take Olofsson spot on the 3 line

Kane has never once indicated that he as any desire to play in Buffalo. I'm pretty sure that he's said that he actively doesn't have a desire. That he's glad he was raised in Buffalo but feels no need to play here.

And frankly, I'm 100% fine with that.

Gotta think they'd be better served by getting someone more defensively responsible for the bottom 6. Also don't know that Kane would be too enthused about being a 3rd liner.

I'll echo what others have said. "No thanks".

He's an immense talent but where he is as a hockey player doesn't fit our needs.

If Toews gets beyond long covid on the other hand and still wants to play....well have his people call our people.

Power 8/52 this summer immediately after taking care of Dahlin 8/100. You have your top 2 D and top 2 C for under 34 mil. Before their deals are up 2 elite players will cost nearly that much.

Absolutely no reason for Power to take that. Try 8/64 minimum. More likely, IMO, he gets a 3-year bridge in the 5.5-6 range.

Also I don't think Dahlin is going to come in nearly that high. Somewhere in the 10-10.5 AAV range.

LOL. He is a prick and I don't want him in my locker room or on my team. Congrats to him for winning somewhere else. The only legendary Kane event I want to see, and would pay good money for, is for Cozens to beat his whiny arse into the ice in front of the home fans.

Getting any sense yet for the Kane to Buffalo support on this board?

If it wouldn't be the waste of a year I would sign him so fans could boo him off the ice for every bad play.

I just thought of how I can explain it. Patrick Kane was born in Buffalo. He is not a Buffalonian.

Nah that spot is reserved for Kulich. You want high octane all action player on the 3rd line, not a floater that's why viktor need being shipped off. Honestly dont think Kane is that sentimental about the city of Buffalo anyway.

I'd be AMAZED if Dahlin got the McDavid deal. I don't think he's getting a 40% bigger deal than Tage.

Especially with the Makar deal so recent and including a Smythe and a Norris.

Plenty of comparables for Dahlin in that Makar range too. Fox, Heiskanen, Jones, Nurse, Werenski, McAvoy, and Sergachev could all be comparables I would think.

Dahlin maxes out at 8/$80m

I wouldn't give OP more than 8/$40m right now. Being a #1 doesn't automatically mean you get a mega deal. Hell, his bridge right now is 3 x $5m right now imo (if not less). Has a long way to go to get $7m+ a year.

You give him 7M a year now in the hopes that years 5-8 are bargains. Overpay a little now while we have the room.

If Dahlin is over PPG next season I dont see how he doesn't get 10.5 or 11.
Too soon to say what Power gets also.

Salary cap going up. It's like NFL. The cap goes up and salaries go up. I dont think people are appreciating that the cap will be at 92 million in 25/26 and maybe higher than that. Do you think agents care about Bradys contracts when negotiating for their QBs? Salary cap percentage is the way to look at it. What's to stop Dahlin from doing a 2 or 3 year deal if he gets lowballed? When teams have an extra 8 million to spend is that the time to negotiate a deal?
