I don't like or want to sign Kane, but I know for a fact that if it had worked out that he could finish his career in Buffalo he would have been thrilled. It was something he talked about his whole career.
He could've done that but forced his way to the rainjuz. He may have once felt that way but that ship has clearly sailed years ago.

The Sabres were not interested this year. There was some mutual interest about a potential reunion at some point early in the adams tenure, but Kane's game really fell apart and our young players grew well. So nothing materialized

Kane seem like a
Bad fit after seeing what people writes here. Just would have think someone from Buffalo would have some interest playing here. But now I understand

Sorry but the perspective of your post is a bit sketchy. It doesn't matter if the Sabres were interested or not this year because Kane just wanted to go to the Rangers.
(not to mention by publicly stating that he hurt his team and his trade value, nobody needs characters like that around here)

Dahlin seem to like it with the sabres, they are on the correct path . Eichel, reinhart, risto, mccabe are not Dahlin power Thompson cozens. Didnt want any of Eichel risto reinhart mcabbbe ullmark on this team . Happy they are gone
what did Ullmark do?

The latest I had heard anything on any of this is from last spring. And it wasn't "Kane is dead set on Buffalo so he would never say anything about the Rangers at a future date"

The guy was as obsessed with the Sabres as we are when he was a kid and teenager, and throughout his career always had the thought that he could one day end his career here. It didn't pan out, to the best interest of both parties, that's all there is to it. But I was responding to posts insinuating that he would never have interest because I know the idea always intrigued him

I'm pretty much in agreement, but it's strange to want a two-way winger for Cozens, and then say to trade Mittelstadt. Mitts has been one of the top 3-4 FWs in 2023 and I'm not sure why I keep seeing posters suggest trading him. He's exactly what we don't have enough of for the bottom 9. He's quietly been one of the developmental success stories this season.

Moving this here to get it out of the goalie thread:

I think many people here still think of Mitts as a 1st rounder and thus think that if he's not playing in the "top 6", he's a bust/waste and clearly not worth being part of the team.

IMO (like you), I believe Mitts is becoming a key cog in our 3rd line moving forward. He's fantastic along the wall and is an absolute puckhound in transition and on the backcheck. Once he learns how to play a little better once play gets established in our own zone, we've got a really nice 3rd liner there.

Not sure on lineup construction but with how he has fit in, Jost is very much in the mix for next year. I suspect Olofsson isn't back after this summer.

Ive liked Jost, and he has some offense to his game, but I really, really want a good defensive center who brings some physicality and wins faceoffs. I know faceoffs don't tilt the wins and losses much over the course of a season, but I do think theyre important situationally.

Has Jost played wing effectively before?

A bottom six of...

Mittelstadt
Krebs
Greenway
Girgensons
Jost
And a C I described

...Could be a good blend of skill and defensive play. Hopefully Greenway shows more once he's healed up.

Frankly, as a line.......... Mitts-Krebs-Greenway intrigues the hell out of me long term. That's a 3rd line that's not afraid to get grindy along the boards and can still chip in some offense.

If Lars Eller has anything left in the tank, maybe he could be that 4th line center? Not overly physical, but a 55% FO winner and is very good defensively and on the PK.

I'm less concerned about the aggregate faceoff wins/losses falling to a single guy and seeing all of their centers get better. Jost is sub-40%... FOR HIS CAREER. But Thompson is flirting with 40% as a career number as is Krebs, Mittelstadt had pushed up to close to 50% in mid-season but has steadly settled and is now 46%. Cozens is 48%. I don't like the winger details on draws almost as much as I don't like how the centers themselves get their heads caved in on the draw itself. Teams that dominate the draw do it with their top players committing to be good at it. There is no magic bullet to solve the problem alone.

Jost has played a bit of wing, they sought him out and he's got ties to the staff (Christie). His defensive measures in Buffalo have been excellent. Where he sucks is on the draw.

One of the Buffalo twitter community posted this screen cap of where Jost was on the Evolving Hockey charts when he arrived:

-vs. where he is now with Buffalo including that crappy display:

1679088629567.png

That is eye popping - he's gone from one of the worst defensive players in the league based on shots against when he's on the ice to a pretty solid shot suppressionist who isn't giving up dangerous stuff and is generating some dangerous stuff as well.

How about the Rochester contingent ? Biro, Rousek, Weissbach, Kulich ? Savoie if he has a camp to good to pass up ?

Appert's said Biro's been their best forward and best at both ends of the rink. He could get a look though with both teams fighting for playoff position, it might work against him since the Amerks need him to be in the lineup rather than up in the NHL perhaps getting a beating. Rousek is my favorite prospect for his speed and willingness to go into painful places to win games. Kulich I think might be a mid-season guy, like after going to the U20's and shredding it, coming up afterward. Weissbach is a nice AHL scorer with really good wheels but of the three slightly older guys I would put third (behind Biro and Rousek).

Savoie could make it too, his play in the new year has been outstanding. It's possible he has a similar jump like Cozens did from his D+1 to his D+2 in the show.

I don't think Olofsson returns even if he's a well-liked guy by his teammates.

Can Savoie play in the AHL next year? I figured him to be in the NHL next season ’cause he couldn’t play in the A and would be stunted returning to the W. ???

Skinner-Thompson-Tuch
Savoie-Cozens-Quinn
Mittelstadt-Krebs-Peterka
Girgensons-Jost-Greenway/Okposo/Hinostrosa

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Jokiharju
Johnson-Lyubushkin

???

Trade Olofsson and Bryson or Jokiharju with some picks for aDman upgrade?

They're going to have to bring in some intestinal fortitude, thats not coming with the vibes or in the organization. Word is getting around the league quick how to play them now, even the bottom clubs. Bang up 26 and they melt.
