Yeah. Away from Olofsson where everyone is magically better
Except for that month where Mitts/Jost/Olofsson was either our best or 2nd best line every night

Doesn't seem to think too highly of McCabe either based on the latest episode. If youve ever listened to his podcast…it isn’t safe to rule out a slight shot at Reinhart. or at least not surprising he’d take a chance to show him in a less than flattering light.
He just pointed out that McCabe has not liked dealing with the media in Buffalo or Chicago and that he likely won’t like dealing with the Toronto media if the Buffalo media was too much. That is completely fair.Doesn't seem to think too highly of McCabe either based on the latest episode.
Olofsson followed that up with no goals this monthExcept for that month where Mitts/Jost/Olofsson was either our best or 2nd best line every night
Darcy lacks the courage to do something like that, and just like original Darcy that's going to eventually end up being his undoing.Trade VO while he still has any value to give. Today showed Quinn or Peterka can replace him on the PP and whatever warm body we can get in exchange will be a positive compared to what we are getting from VO. I was once a fan but you need to sell when the time is right.
I was saying trade him when he was lighting it up a few months back because I knew with a snap of a finger the guy will turn invisible.. It's the same old song and dance with Olofsson. He's on fire or he's ice cold.Trade VO while he still has any value to give. Might be a good time to sell him considering the prices. If we aren't adding d or goaltending we should expore ways ti get assets for trades in summer.Waive Joker. Get this asshole off this team right now. He sucks. He's never getting better. He's a blight on this roster. f*** em
The defense on this team is trash. They are one cheapshot away from this group being their usual 6.
Theyre hoping he can become a physical bottom pairing guy who plays aggressive or, at the very least, someone who prevents Clague from playing games.I’m curious how much of this is lack of forward support. No dahlin obviously hurts a ton. We definitely need to get power some support however. Push Joker down to the bottom pair and get him someone to support him (or just move him)
Samuelsson-dahlin
Power-Yyyyy
Clague/stillman/Johnson- Joker/Lybushkin
This is why the stillman trade is so confusing. We are already anchored down with mediocrity in the bottom pair.
This would be ideal, but Id like to see what Stillman brings before writing him off and Im ok with Jost being a short-term 4th line option.I continue to waffle a bit on how much I think Adams should do now vs waiting until the offseason, but seeing the way some of the players on this team continue to play they really need to cut a few of them loose before next season. I also think too many changes are needed to address them right now, we aren't the Leafs.
Olofsson - Vic has got to go at this point. Scoring a timely goal a few games a year does nothing to counter his long stretches of being disengaged and floating. If he isn't getting set-up for his one timer he's been virtually useless and has dragged down every line he's been on for 80% of the season. I don't know if it's his lack of ice time, or that he got paid for 2 years but he looks checked out more often than not.
Jokiharju - I really thought Joker would settle in on the 2nd pairing with Power, and for a few games here and there he looks like he is. Then he reverts back to making the same mistakes over and over. He's a 3rd pairing guy playing above his head, and I haven't seen enough progression from him to expect he'll ever become anything more than that at this point. He's still young and maybe another team sees enough for a change of scenery type of deal.
Jost - I like what Jost brings, and I love the effort he gives. I just don't see him providing anything they don't already have right now with Gus. If he wasn't absolutely putrid at face-offs that would give me more pause, but I think they need a Jost who can at least get closer to 50% at the dot. I'm not huge on face-offs being super important, but 38% is not something you can get away with unless you're scoring at a high rate.
Okposo - Was really happy to see the rebound Okposo had last season, and was hopeful he would carry that in to this one because he's been a great leader for them. Sadly as other have also pointed out the legs he had last year seem to be gone now. I'd be happy having him as a 13th forward, but you aren't going to make your Captain a 13th forward and they aren't going to take the C away from him if he's still on the team. It's a tough situation.
Bryson - Yea no, go away please. If the coach no longer trusts you to even play 15 or 16 minutes a game there's no reason to keep you. He's played over 15 minutes a total of 3 times since January 1st, Clague has played over 15 minutes 5 times. That's telling to me.
Clague and Stillman I really don't have much issue keeping them as a 7 or 8. Mittelstadt has kind of won me over with his effort and his play when not saddled with Olofsson. Lyubushkin has also looked solid on the 3rd pairing down the stretch. Wondering if his poor play was more due to not being fully recovered from an Injury earlier in the season. Even his penalties are down since then (2 minutes in his last 18 games, 6 in his last 22).
Skinner - TNT - Tuch
Mittelstadt - Cozens - Quinn
Peterka - Krebs - XXX
Gus - XXX - XXX
Extra - Asplund or Jost
Sammy - Dahlin
Power - XXX
XXX - Lyubushkin
Extra - Stillman, Clague
Goaltending is a whole different issue, but I'd be ok with seeing how the goalies perform if they fix the defense, and defensive zone play from the forwards.
I'm all for giving Stillman a shot, and maybe Jost can replace Okposo. Ideally I'd rather see both of them start as press box options and have them force their way onto the roster with their play. We'll see how Stillman looks here shortly and how quickly he can acclimate, but he's generally been a depth Dman even on bad teams. You don't typically find a diamond in the rough that way. This would be ideal, but Id like to see what Stillman brings before writing him off and Im ok with Jost being a short-term 4th line option.
If they can get a physical, veteran top-9 forward, a top-4 RD, and a 4th line C with defensive chops before next season- Ill be a happy camper. May need a bottom pairing guy if Stillman continues his suckage here in Buffalo.
I disagree. I don't think he's punting on this season at all. I think the problem is the prices to make these deals is not worth the draft capital for a rental or a guy on a 1 or 2 year deal.I don't think they need to do a massive trade, the pipeline still needs work.
But it's like Adams is punting on this season and as a fan and 11 years of no playoffs I just can't accept that. So close. End the drought, get that moneky off the team's back moving forward.
Trading for a good defenseman is going to be expensive whenever you do it. And we need to do it at some point, because we don't have really have any high end prospects on D coming and our current D is substandard.I disagree. I don't think he's punting on this season at all. I think the problem is the prices to make these deals is not worth the draft capital for a rental or a guy on a 1 or 2 year deal.
None of that really matter if he's not good defensively, or at least better than Bryson/Clague. Nothing about his recent play says that he is, and I don't want to hear about how Granato thinks he can reclimate his game.Theyre hoping he can become a physical bottom pairing guy who plays aggressive or, at the very least, someone who prevents Clague from playing games.
Our savior on D is here...
Leave it to us to have a press conference for a #7 D man
