The doghouse
Oh yeah- I can speak on this. I remember watching Armia, Grigorenko, etc...come up, and they would show flashes, but nothing like what we saw from Peterka and Quinn. I mean- Quinn had one of the best seasons for his age range of any prospect since Briere. He TORE it up.

It's honestly comical someone would say prospects arent developing well in the ROC under Adams. It's blatantly false, and when someone is shown proof and STILL chooses to double down...the the narrative theyre trying to sell has warped their reality.

I remember when it was time to add our big three prospects….baptsite, Bailey, and who was the other one?

And then once they got into our system…POOF, they sucked

Then yeah, no real reason not to look at that TYPE of rental. Cost a mid round pick, fills a need.

If we can come out with a Grant-type forward rental and a top 4 d-man, that'd be a home run of a trade deadline.
Would love to add a #4RHD with term. Shift Joker to play with Boosh. Grant would be a good place-holder for Tuch at a fair price, and depth. Be even nicer if it was someone who instills fear, but it looks like those guys are Dr Evil cost: one million dollars!

There were so many of those mid round guys over the years people thought were going to be good. Catenacci, Kea, Possler, and Karabacek in that time range. Even going back further with guys like Adam. Regier used to get good value from those mid rounds most of the time, but it's always been hit or miss.

I don't think anyone but Karabacek's mom thought he was going to be anything.

The board I frequented at that time (not HFBoards) used to bring him up within that group. I never really followed many prospects back then, just remember who was always talked about.

Speaking from personal experience, I didn't want them to waste a contract spot on him. Not bragging, I would have loved to have been wrong.

I will enjoy watching Bos, TB, FL, and Tor (maybe to a lesser extent) crashing into mediocrity in the next 1-3 years. That's Buffalo's wheelhouse time frame to be Cup contenders. Having high-end prospects from the current pool and the next draft or so will put them in NJ territory for surplus they can easily trade. So for that reason I won't go crying if KA stays quiet all week. There are non-rental improvements that can be made, but not at any cost.

Hmm, I wonder what the difference between those 3 teams are. One of them seems different than the other 2, but I just can't put my finger on it.

The desire to win? An ownership and management commitment to doing it?

You have to have that before you can start doing it.

Those two team have picked up some players who will be on their teams next year too. Is that another year where we aren’t to be looked at in the same league as them? When does that end?

Shoulda got one game in
Hudson Fasching I do believe

Baptiste always grew to a 1st line winger in NHL14 or 15, but only if I traded him away. Deslauriers was decent as at the time he was still a converted D, so he was always a cheap DFD that you could play on the 4th line.

Bailey and Fasching were good to trade for whatever as they sucked in game but always had decent trade value.

If we wanted to be NJ next season the time to start making trades and signing big time UFAs was 2 off seasons ago.

But Adams took 2 years off.

I would say that ends when the Sabres actually make the playoffs? I don't know maybe I'm blind, but one of those teams has been to the cup final 3 years in a row and both of them have comfortably made the playoffs since 2017-18. In that time there was only a single year that either of those teams had a sub .610 winning percentage (19-20 Leafs).

Would I have liked Meier? Sure. Chychrun? You bet. Orlov? of course. But not at the prices being paid.

If you think they should be wasting the huge amount of assets that Toronto and Tampa have this season, then you're just being willfully ignorant. Consistently spinning anything to make the point that the team is either cheap or doesn't care about winning. I don't like the Stillman trade, and there's definitely a point that can be made about getting a better player, but comparing where Buffalo is to where Toronto and Tampa are right now? Give me a break.
