If he is 190 I would be a bit shocked. Every light collision he seems to take the worst of.

He was pretty fearless to start the season. He really wanted the puck and he'd charge into corners and battle.

Now he is backing off. He is playing timid.

He and Quinn were getting the crap knocked out of them for s stretch after they heated up. Teams started to key on them physically. Granato benched them for periods, not because they were playing bad but because they were being run left and right by the oppositions checking lines.

I think he got stung one too many times, or maybe he's playing with a nagging injury and is trying to avoid the contact?

You are right that it is mental, but I think it is being driven by something physical.

Could be that he is dealing with something.

Minnesota is probably trying to find 5-on-5 scoring but it might want to move Greenway's salary.

Foote has fallen down the depth chart in Tampa. It's hard to get below average metrics on the Lightning and he's been not good this year. It would have to be someone who bounces back after being gambled on. *shrug*

Both would be gambles to rebound. I'm not sure they are in on that right now.

That's fair. I'm in a bit of a "buy low" mindset, since my expectations are muddy at best

Not sure what to make of Driedger. Small sample size, but he was great for 2 seasons in Florida and then looked like Tokarski last season.
He was "ok" last season. He started off shaky after returning from injury, but eventually has some solid games, but it is hard to evaluate a goalie when the entire team in front of him is chasing the puck around the zone, and there are opposition players parked at the side of the net with no D anywhere near. All of Seattle's goalies were forced to play on their heels deep in their crease to protect the back post. It really limited their ability to be aggressive and challenge shooters.

His last action was at the worlds, he looked pretty great. But that was playing behind a competent defensive system.

I think he clears, as he is owed 4.5 million next season. Seattle could easily give him a conditioning stint to keep him in the fold this year if they wanted to, but I think they want out of that contract.

It would take a miracle for me to feel comfortable with Comrie and UPL as the tandem next year. They need to go out and get a short term fix at goaltending. Whether it’s Demko via trade or Andersen/Jarry/Varlamov in free agency, the issue needs to be resolved.

Don’t pencil in Levi either. If he is as advertised he will play his way to the #1 spot at some point.

Jumping to next year with 4 UFA positions with Okposo, Girgensons, Anderson and Vinny do any prospects make the jump to the NHL?

Kulich starts in the AHL next year, Savoie is in a tough spot its WHL or NHL that leaves resigning Okposo and/or Girgensons and perhaps Johnson signing and making the club next year.

We have 2 open spots on the roster for next year not including trades and signings.

Does that sound about right?

Just trying to get an idea of what the roster will look like after the trade deadline and next year.

I fully expect us to extend Okposo for another year. His role is defined in the bottom 6 now and the locker room leadership will be important.

If we get him at 1 year 3 - 3.5 million. I'd be ok with that.

I've been thinking 3 million for 1 year. I know a bunch of fans have said 1 million. I just think it won't be that low.

Setting aside injuries, experience, puck luck, or any other factors that play in and can't really be solved for... just in terms of roster build, I legitimately think we are pretty close to being a contender.

Give me:
  • 1 good top 4 defenseman who can PK
  • 1 or 2 forwards who are solid defensively and can PK (not too hard to acquire)
  • and a good goalie (may already have in Levi)

and we're in business.

UPL, Joker, 1st, Rosen

for

Saros, Ekholm, Niederreiter

it's too bold for Adams, but gives us 3 things we need immediately, the 2 key guys with term.

This is unlikely to happen, but this one trade could conceivably open our window, IMO.

We're close.

Saros and Ekholm are both probably worth more than a first themselves. Wish someone like Poltapov was ripping up the KHL since he's the sort of style player Poile and Hynes like.

Two issues with that:

1) Saros might look bad for a while after a trade while he gets used to playing behind a new D. I like the idea, but I would temper expectations for him to look like the game goalie in Buffalo as he has been in Nashville.

2) For that package, I would expect Nashville to want way more than that package, like many have already mentioned.

I think you have to give up 1 or 2 of the young players/prospects that you do not want to give up to get the Preds interested.

I wouldn't be shocked if Nashville demanded Levi if Saros is headed to Buffalo.
