Two issues with that:

1) Saros might look bad for a while after a trade while he gets used to playing behind a new D. I like the idea, but I would temper expectations for him to look like the game goalie in Buffalo as he has been in Nashville.

2) For that package, I would expect Nashville to want way more than that package, like many have already mentioned.

I think you have to give up 1 or 2 of the young players/prospects that you do not want to give up to get the Preds interested.

I wouldn't be shocked if Nashville demanded Levi if Saros is headed to Buffalo.

they have a better/equal to goalie prospect already.

I fully expect us to extend Okposo for another year. His role is defined in the bottom 6 now and the locker room leadership will be important.

If we get him at 1 year 3 - 3.5 million. I'd be ok with that.
He very much underperformed his contract. I like Kyle, but he is falling off the cliff this year and barely holds down a 4th line job. You cannot pay him more than his 4th line replacement value. If he falls off even more next year you will be looking at having your Captain as either a liability on the ice or sitting as a 13th forward.

I think it is time to move on and give Tuch the "C"

Offer Girgs a 3-year contract, and take it or not you completely rebuild the 4th line.

I'm fine with letting go both Girgs and Okposo. Time to move on.
I can go either way with Girgs. He is actually a very solid 4th line winger. He is still of a good age to be fully effective for another 3-5 years. So with the need to completely rebuild the 4th line, I am at least open to him being one of them.

I'm fine if they move on from either of Girgs and Okposo, but they would need to bring in comparable players or improvements for the bottom 6. Both play their roles well enough that I'd also be fine with them sticking around.

I see no reason to offer either a contract more than 1 year at this point though.

I hope they re-work the bottom 6 in a meaningful way this summer. I think Gus and Krebs are definitely guys they can rely on in bottom 6 roles.

Between Okposo, Mitts, Olofsson, Jost and Asplund I think there is room to improve or change the make-up by replacing 1 or 2 of them. We saw what the infusion of Jost did for Mitts and Olofsson for a stretch, so getting a defensive center who can win face-offs and maybe a winger who can score some ugly goals, plays a heavy forecheck, and can play on the 2nd or 3rd line would go a long way.

I'm happy with the development this season, but I'll be disappointed if the bottom 6 next year is just the status quo.

I think there is a good chance Okposo moves upstairs or just retires. I think Krebs progresses to stay of the bottom line. Its time to move on from Olofsson and Asplund.

That leaves 2 of the bottom 6 open with Mitts, Jost, Girgs and Krebs returning if Girgs resigns. I think thats realistic.

Definitely room for improvement.

I want to trade/replace all of those not just 1 or 2. Mitts and Olofsson have trade value especially if packaged. Move them and use the assets to get better players. Im on the fence with Jost. I like his effort and all, but he is not big enough to be on my 4th line, and does not have enough offense to be on my 3rd line. I don't see the longterm fit. He is found money so if he helps as a "roster player" in a trade then do it. Okposo is done.

You shouldn't be on the fence with Jost ... he definitely needs to be upgraded on

Yeah, some sort of improvement there. Bjugstad in Arizona is basically their second line center and brings a big body who PKs and can chip in offensively, seems like he could be a guy who pushes Jost to the pressbox and gives them some flexibility in the middle.

seriously people who knock KA for soliciting input from important stakeholders in the team, just make me thankful they aren't the leader of my organization.
Agreed.

It's extremely common for GM's to consult with their captains about potential roster moves. Not to say "hey do you think we need a goalie", but more to gauge the room and how the guys might feel about certain moves.

When the Oilers brought in Kane, they discussed it with McDavid, and then talked to him again when they re-signed Kane. You want to make sure the move isn't going to kill the teams morale. Doesn't mean Kyle is playing GM, just means he's providing feedback for the temperature of the room.

Will fix everything
Outside of Krebs, there really isn't any player in the bottom six forward group (Mittelstadt, Olofsson, Okposo, Girgensons, Jost) that can be considered a core player moving forward. You don't have to do a complete retool here, but there should be some significant turnover given how bad our PK and defensive zone play from the forwards have been.

Girgs is a very effective 4th liner, wouldn't mind keeping him around. I think Okie has lost a big step so I think it's time to make way for fresh blood and let the new leaders take the reigns permanently.

Would love Kyle to work in the front office though.

I'm of a similar mind. Kyle last year through the first third of this season has been a nice addition and ride into the sunset, but the legs are really not there any more.

I like Mitts. Olofsson, peace! Girgs stays. Jost is fine on the 4th line for the short term, but I view him more as a 13th forward in the medium-term. Krebs should center the 3rd line. Okoposo needs to hang them up.

So...

Mitts-Krebs-XXX
Girgs-XXX-Jost/XXX

Would love a veteran 4C who can take draws and is defensively responsible. 3rd line RW/LW should be a Foligno type, but theyre hard to come by. Still, need some size and physicality there. Id like someone with some grit to their game at the 4RW, but Jost can be a place holder for a year if need be.

There hasn't been much from the press scrum that covers the team about it but several of the players have talked about having a players' meeting recently.
Hmmm...I wonder what the topic is?!

Not sure. It was mentioned by a few of them yesterday. And then Boosh goes off in the third with crushing Kuch and then the Gummi Bear Goal of Doom. Thompson's hatty too - getting back to what they do well.

Here is the article about Adams talking to Okposo and honestly it doesn't sound bad at all when you read the actual article. I definitely took it the wrong way.

I post it because it sounds like Okposo could retire this year and does he become an assistant coach or assistant GM here? It sounds like from the article its something he could be interested in.

Have him coach the PK, can't get much worse than it is right now.

From what I have read it sounds like he is more interested in the front office than behind the bench like Grier did over in San Jose.

I am just guessing from reading articles but to add him as an assistant GM wouldn't be bad. There is a lot of respect for him with the players and around the league.

Its been pretty tight lipped about his future.

Thornton was consulted before San Jose acquired Kane too.

Also, in all of this, it's very possible that Anderson, as part of the leadership group of the team was in on this to explain that he wasn't going to be able to handle the starter role until Comrie was back up to speed.

Anyway... back to reading the CBA for AHL assignment rules. :D
