What result for the season is most likely to get us moves made in the offseason?

Making the playoffs?
Missing close?
Falling out?
Bueller?

Is there not one?

I would think getting close and missing. The justification there is that "we were close but needed something extra"

If we make it then it is too easy to say "look at the progress, stay the course" and if we fall way out "the team clearly isn't ready yet, no reason to spend assets"

Not sure the results are the benchmark so much as the style in which they arrive there.

I don't think Adams replaces any of the guys until Granato pulls the plug on the development experiment of any of them and notifies Adams he is doing so.

If the players individually keep improving, I think Donny stays the course. If individuals stagnate and aren't up to the asks of the coaching staff, I think moves are made.

If they make the playoffs and don't get smoked by the Bruins or Canes, it may be hard to argue that with more development and exp, they will keep improving and are in the right path, whether we agree or not.

Remember, Adams goals are not our goals. We want a cup asap. Adams wants a long-term competitive team that bonds with the community and brings continued fan interest and fills all the seats. (that isn't to say the goal is not a championship, but he is also thinking several years out and not just to maximize chances for a short window).

Listening to them talk about a underwhelming and overpaid player like Boeser over someone who has put up 38 goals in his last 82 games in Olofsson is makes me wonder at their ability to identify someone who is actually any better than what is already here.

Rivet- "This team needs leadership!" They need a Brock Boeser!""

:huh::huh::huh:

Yeah, that's a wild take. I know he has an absolute hate-boner for Olofsson. What is Boeser other than a more expensive, less productive Olofsson? Is it that he's North American? Is Riv's tight with Boeser somehow? I don't understand it.
I think with that take it is pretty obvious he is asleep long before any west coast games start and doesn't actually watch the players play.

Sort of living off Boeser at North Dakota and as a rookie instead of say, his last three years of work? Probably. I have a host of issues, not the least of which is I watch a lot of late games while unable to sleep, and Boeser is not that player any more. He's a power play shooter who is about as complete a passenger on his own line as anyone I've seen in the NHL in years. There is no effort, no speed, and no physicality... and he makes nearly Girgensons more than Olofsson.

I agree, and I have stated before, I would not want Boeser on the team for league minimum.

His lack of effort defensively that directly results in chances and goals against is something you can't win with, imo.

Seems like a good kid off the ice, and I think his effectiveness currently is hampered by his recent wrist injury, (no idea if that ever improves), but it all comes down to this - I can live with players making mistakes, what in can't deal with is players not caring enough to try. I have watched too many plays where Bowser falls in that second category.

Hopefully its time to give Asplund a chance to get his game right, 4 or 5 games in a row without looking over his shoulder, JJP/Quinn can get take the nights off.

He's looked more like the player he was last season at every level of his career than what he's been this year. Confidence, lack of opportunity, nagging injury, all of the above? It really can't hurt. At least he'd help give Cozens a hand with some dirtier work.

Depends on why he's falling out of grace. He only plays 14 minutes a night. If he's struggling doing that for Tampa.......I'm not sure he's worth a look.
Kinda what we're looking for? A big young cheap defenseman. He's not even struggling horribly. Duffer's point was that he may be looking for a fresh start as a guy with pedigree. Seems like the type of low key, d depth move that Adams would pull off.

I wouldn’t mind Meier. Love the idea of adding Ekholm.

Boeser is somewhat confusing. He doesn’t do the type of things the Sabres are missing right now.

There is a Swiss remedy for the team's allergy to the front of the net.
They really need some gritty veterans on this squad. It's why Im not sold on keeping Olofsson-Jost-Mitts being the 3rd line going forward. They need to beef up the bottom-6. Momentum is so important. When the team is on their heels- they could use some players that would go through the f***ing wall to flip that momentum.

Damn, I wish we had a Foligno-like prospect coming up. Ive mentioned his name way too often over the past few months, but this team needs a player like him.

The team has made it very clear they aren’t making moves based on results.

The team will make moves to fill holes as it fits with their plan and the roster’s development.

I know that’s not as quick as you want it and that it makes your head spin, but they have been pretty clear about that

I like the idea of Foote. Depending on how the season goes up to the deadline, Foote for a girgensons with 50% retention sounds like a very Tampa style move.

grass is greener and buffalo has been ignored because they haven’t made the playoffs And in a small market.

Unless Girgensons specifically asks for a trade, he's going nowhere. Same with Okposo and Anderson

Okposo has a ntc. That is accurate

Nobody else but us is going to waste a roster spot on a goalie who can only play 1 game a week down the stretch.

But Girgensons has some value. IF we fall out of the running, there is zero reason not to see if he has value. Same with pretty much any non long term player. Mittelstadt, Olofsson, Bryson, Lybushkin, etc.

We will see though. We probably stay close enough that neither selling or buying is a viable option.

It would be a very Tampa move. Which is why we'd be better off IMO signing him to an extension (3 years or less) and keeping him. Because to get to where teams like Tampa are, we need guys like Girgensons for that role, and with Asplund falling off a cliff this year, we really don't have anyone who does what Zemgus does on the roster or in the pipeline.

In my opinion, Players. In the interest of finding some new prospect types, they have only a couple of guys who are contact and traffic based and none of them are at the top of their prospect list so they're further away. They have some intermittently applied size in Tuch and Cozens in their top 6 and they could certainly use more. There are guys who draw the team into the fray, who initiate contact or stir things up to get their team involved. Sometimes Skinner is that but that's not an always thing. The Cozens line has very little sustained cycle as the kids get pushed around and pushed off or are picking themselves up off the ice. Jost's usual line of late is still not consistent enough IMO.

Sounds like the boys are having issues shaking off the vacation vibes

First time I've heard of them needing some ass kicking in a practice that is close to getting bagged. Skating lines SUCKS. Also, I do not agree with Quinn staying in the lineup. He was a tire fire with and without the puck. Peterka was unnoticeable but didn't do things that actively put chances against on their own net like Quinn did.
