Other than trying to find a roster spot for him, would there be downside to taking on Puljujarvi if the Oilers are so in need?
I can't think of one.

Edit: read that wrong. I can't think of one good reason to waste any effort o Puliju

The Adams calling on Meier stuff was definitely a leak from SJ. Especially since the early reports overplayed the actual level of interest from the Sabres.

I'm pretty convinced that the Chychrun stuff is leaked from either the Coyotes or Chych's agent. We know that Armstrong has held fast to his demands of a 1st/1st/2nd or equivalents.......and getting word out there that there are more teams in the mix enhances the chances Armstrong gets what he wants (or in the agent's case, Chych gets out of the desert).

Nothing I can see. But to your point......what do we do with him if/when we get him? We're not doing the paper transaction thing again and I doubt we waive Asplund to make room for him.

He's a great buy-low candidate, but how do we fit him in?

We would have to waive someone. I like giving him a shot but who does he replace?

At this point in time he is not really a fit though.

Noted. :D

That's the issue - no where to put him. I would be game to see how he fits into the misfit line for now or give him some time on a wing with one of the kids and Cozens on the nights when they want to change those things up.

Somewhere in the middle of the lineup to spell others was my thought. Thinking longer-term as a possible add to what right now is Gus-Krebs-KO as perhaps a replacement if they move Krebs up next year.

Adams job is done for the offseason. All RFA's qualified; Okposo and Girgensons re-signed.

Only UFA's needed are replacements for Priskie, Pilut and Subban. No trades.

Team is the same.

Even I don't think they will try to run it back with the same squad and run a cap floor team for the 3rd straight year. I don't expect them to spend to the cap, but I expect at least a token effort to address the issues.

But I (foolishly) expected them to do that last year as well.

The sad thing is, the more success this team has, the more likely that becomes.

I don't know about you all but I am so f***ing sick of waiting. Making the playoffs regardless of the end result is more important then anything else. "Sustained" winning...yeah it will be so easy to replicate a 3.75+ gpg again next year. Not like we haven't seen major drop offs before. All this f***ing cap space extra 2nds extra top prospects like Rosen etc just do something. Not like you can bank the f***ing cap space.

I think it might be worth sending JJP down, but that's based on charts and not from focusing on his recent play, which I haven't done. And that's assuming the upgrade doesn't come at a cost to the vibes room and stuff like that. I'm sure Adams will grab him if it makes sense.

I don't know JJPs charts at all.......but he's been more consistent in his play than Quinn, who has either been really good or a liability. As far as production goes, JJP's been a bit snakebit. He hasn't put a couple of solid chances away.......and a few good passes that he's made have either taken a terrible bounce or just haven't gone in the net.

I think his spot is (and should be) safe.

Sorry, I meant Puljujarvi's charts. I haven't watched him play lately but he looks like he'd fill a big need based on the charts.

As far as JJP, he looks fine, he just seems to lose energy towards the end of games lately (prior to the break), which sometimes leads to fewer shifts. I feel like Puljujarvi would help the team win more games through this last stretch, but it's debatable.

From a creative standpoint, if they were to send Puljujarvi down and Edmonton still wants to clear his full salary, the Sabres could be a buyer and bring him aboard to stash in Rochester until the roster expansion at the end of the year. Just a thought if he makes it through waivers which I don't know if he will. I would think Arizona would be in on him considering they seem to like 'em big and he's got that going for him.

There are rumors that other teams are interested too. I bet he's a hot commodity on the waiver wire.

I would think so too. Arizona has cap space and that sort of rotisserie of wingers where they could bring him in. Probably Anaheim and maybe even a team like Chicago that is about to be going through more things when/if they make some deadline moves.

Because they got them for cheap from Costco?

I look at guys like Asplund and Pul and a lesser extent a the mighty Johan and wonder if they are examples of where shot based metrics start to fall apart. Players whose metrics benefit unfairly from the math being based on higher event stats than scoring.

Listening to Rivet and Gionta argue about the deadline.

Which turns into Rivet being so passionate and convincing that Gionta ends with saying he 100 percent agrees they should make moves to bring in the right people.

Rivet isn’t buying any of the reasons and excuses he’s hearing anymore.

Well yes, but who judges the right people and the right time to do so? I’m certainly not interested in high cost rentals or trading a large quantity of assets for 1.5 years of Meier

I'm interested in trading a small quantity of assets for 1.5 years of Meier.

Of course it's not going to happen.

Listening to them talk about a underwhelming and overpaid player like Boeser over someone who has put up 38 goals in his last 82 games in Olofsson is makes me wonder at their ability to identify someone who is actually any better than what is already here.
