Jeremy White's Super Secret Sabres Source is back, he mentioned on wgr this morning Chychrun is the one Sabres deal to bet on, the one they are most interested in. Also mentioned the possibility of smaller deals.
I never thought Adams had the cajones to go for Chychrun. That would be so much fun to add him, though I'm still skeptical that he ever would at anywhere close to the reported cost.

Rosén, protected 1st and Portillo is my hope.

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Chychrun
Bryson/Lyubushkin-Jokiharju

I actually like the idea of putting Chychrun as an anchor on his own pairing, though, and balancing the minutes and deployment between the 2nd and 3rd pairings.

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Jokiharju
Chychrun-Lyubushkin/Bryson
I think you had it right up top. Separating them is a fun idea and will happen at times, but you play the top 4 for 52 minutes and hope the other guys don't get too bored on the bench.

That's the easiest trade in the world to make. But for such a low cap hit, why wouldn't the rest of the league line up to make that same trade, or give up even more? I know I'd give up more if pressed, and the low cap isn't even that big of a factor for Buffalo.

The asking price better have come back to reality and then some if we wind up pulling the trigger. We are talking about a player who at his age has already been injured more times than I can count. If his value doesn't reflect that I'm not taking the risk when we already have adequate long-term building blocks on D.

Yeah, I posted this elsewhere -- while Chych is solid defensively, he doesn't pass the puck out of the zone particularly well at all. He's more of a skate-it-out type....and does that VERY well. I can't see them taking the puck off of Dahlin's or Power's sticks except for crunch time.
That's like saying you don't want Tage and Dahlin together because Dahlin will take away Tage's puck touches. It doesn't work like that.

They will definitely not play JC on the bottom pair...anyone even considering that doesn't listen to Donny talk about his team enough. He isn't trying to get Jokiharju to play like a shut down defender when he plays with Power. They're trying to get him to play like Chychrun.

i say the same but everyone looks at me funny when I say it.

spread out minutes early…condense to two pairs of the top 4 guys when you need to push for goals. Everyone is better in every situation because of it. Whichever stud D is having the best game that night can take the most minutes. Because who cares about numbering lines. share the burden and keep great players fresh and active all year.

I agree with the first part about Chychrun being a defensively solid skate it out defensman, but I think that actually makes him perfect to pair with Power. Power is legit elite breakout passer who is also defensively solid. So, Power looks for the breakout pass and if its not there he passes to Chychrun who skates it out. Or vice versa. I am not on the Chychrun bandwagon because I don't like the current price and term combination, but I do think he is a very good player and understand why we would look at him. I prefer Ekholm, which still leaves me with capital to chase Meier.

If we could start next year (or finish this year?) with,

Sammy - Dahlin
Power - Chychrun
Johnson - Joker

That would be a top 10 (5?) defensive group.

I agree, and I believe Granato operates in the same fashion. Spread out to start, lock into your go to guys when you need them.

Ive seen it for years with the Lightning, and it led to positive results.

We can set up poll on who we want. Meier or Chychrun. Me thinks both are not gonna happen.

Meier is the better and more reliable player. He rarely misses games. We'd be able to negotiate a long term deal with him. Paying multiple 1sts would hurt if Chychrun leaves in two years. If paying similar price and can only have one, I'd take Meier.

If we do get Chych, this is how I'd do it too. Arizona fans say that he and Boosh made poor partners, so maybe try Chych with Joker and then Power/Boosh. Rotate as necessary.

Yea. If it was about a trade it would be out there already.

League office types, players involved and agents would have already told their various Friedman/Weekes/Dreger/LeBrun mouthpieces about it and it would be public if there was a trade. This is likely a Q/A about Cozens and softballing that they're trying to improve the team if things are the right price without committing to actually do anything.

If you are trading for Chychrun I have to think Joker is the 1st piece headed back. You aren't going to commit beyond a bridge deal to Joker next year when your top 4 is basically set in stone. I wonder how close we have to make the salaries work given both teams are near the cap floor. Given adding Jost we aren't AS far below.

Something like: Joker, Philly's 2nd this year, our 2024 1st, and a forward prospect.
