Yeah, don‘t see it either. Not sure your definition of core is but I don't see him as a core piece.

He was part of the Eichel trade.. You know damn well Adams and the Pegula's will give him every opportunity to earn his spot. And quite honestly I've liked Krebs game. Donny is trying to develop him into a good 2 way center. Why wouldn't he be apart of the future? Not sure your definition of core is but I don't see him as a core piece.
How many of those examples wear a letter?
His role as a team leader earns him more than a typical 4th liner.
Also, EH's contract projections have been pretty close on a lot of actual signed contracts. Their contract projection from last year's calculator had Girgs worth $2.278M/yr if he signed a 3 year term.
Lastly, EH's calculator has Girgs as a more valuable player than Sturm...

But you’ve claimed they’re that way in the past few years. Since the pandemic began
Of course as of now he is part of the future but that is a loose definition of core to me.He was part of the Eichel trade.. What do you mean by this?Of course as of now he is part of the future but that is a loose definition of core to me.
But he could easily not be part of the future in an instant. He's a scrappy kid and I've liked his play but I've seen nothing from him as of yet that screams he is a piece we need to build around.
That list is small
I don't think it's written in stone that we are building around Peyton Krebs. What does this mean?
I guess we (and probably most) have different definitions of "core players". Nothing wrong with that.I don't think it's written in stone that we are building around Peyton Krebs.
I'm indifferent on Greenway, not for Mittlestadt but for a 3rd round pick however why can't our 3rd line play skilled and heavy? Probably a role Greenway would embrace.Greenway will never fit into the Sabres line-up in a scoring role...never. So for a heavy FW in a checking role, he either is not going to want that, or KA/fans won't want to pay the likely price to acquire him, just to be a player filling that role.
I'm puzzled not just by the Mitts for Greenway talk, but any trade talk about Greenway. He's not great in a scoring role, won't be on one in Buffalo, and doesn't want to just be a checking FW. What's the point in shuffling up the roster/locker room just to get a guy that's a dice roll at best in both on-ice and off-ice presence?
There are a lot easier routes to take just to add a heavy FW that won't score much in a checking role.
I really only see 5 long term core players in Thompson and Cozens up front with Dahlin, Power and SamuelssonI guess we (and probably most) have different definitions of "core players". Nothing wrong with that.
Still think Krebs ends up growing into this teams version of JP Dumont... kids just wired differently. On the more positive side of things, Krebs is definitely solidifying himself as a core piece.
No Tuch? He's right at the top of my core list.I really only see 5 long term core players in Thompson and Cozens up front with Dahlin, Power and Samuelsson
I doubt Greenway comes as cheap as a 3rd, but even if that was enough I'm not sure he fits well. Yes, pure checking 3rd line is archaic. I don't see him replacing Mitts or Olofsson and that line being better for it (in fact worse). I can see him replacing Okposo next season on a pure checking 4th line, but he probably doesn't accept that role.I'm indifferent on Greenway, not for Mittlestadt but for a 3rd round pick however why can't our 3rd line play skilled and heavy? Probably a role Greenway would embrace.
I feel like a dedicated 3rd line to be just checking is pretty archaic 90's hockey.
The 5 I listed are long term ie at least 7+ more years, Tuch while a current core piece I don't see being around that longNo Tuch? He's right at the top of my core list.
I'd want Greenway to play with mittlestadt. i think they'd work well togetherI'm indifferent on Greenway, not for Mittlestadt but for a 3rd round pick however why can't our 3rd line play skilled and heavy? Probably a role Greenway would embrace.

Neither have performed even close to second line level. What are you calling second line production and capability? Just playing on the pseudo second line doesn't make it so. They are both good players, but are 20 year old rookies, who need still need a good amount of development before holding down the second line. Two years puts them right where Cozens is now, and he has only just this year entered the beginning of being able to hold down the second line.A couple of years? Both have looked and have been intermittently capable of pulling regular 2nd line minutes this year.
It's entirely possible that given an entire offseason to work on their bodies, they're ready to be 2nd line players next year.

The cost culling started at the front office when Adams was hired. It didn’t reach the roster until the next season. Really not much of a gotcha.
How much would you sign Larkin or Aho for, if they want to test the market?
If we are paying Olofsson 5m a season I have no problem taking his money +3m more and giving it to Larkin or Aho but I think they get closer to 10m on the open market. Paying them anymore than that and I feel it will disrupt the pecking order and cap balance. How much would you sign Larkin or Aho for, if they want to test the market?
