Then why not play him more?

Quinn is Buffalo’s 10th forward PK’er. Let’s not act like he’s a stalwart. If he’s this good why aren’t they playing him more in defensive situations? It’s precisely Buffalo’s need.

Moving the goalposts huh?

A debate that started with me disagreeing that he's not being sheltered from a "Deployment which would lead to goals against", is being spun into him being "a stalwart". There's a large set of values between bad and good.

He's young, as JJ just pointed out, lately he's getting sat regarding of the game score. Him sitting has to do with his youth, not his defensive play.

Kyle Connor, Draisaitl, Horvat, Jeff Carter, JT Miller

That's a fair and valid list.

I should have separated PKing forwards into categories:
1) defensively responsible forwards
2) Forwards that are better than the other options on the roster
3) Forwards, that while bad defensively, are world class talents and give their team the threat of a short-handed opportunity

What do you think the ask is?
Probably huge I would throw a combo of this savoie, ostlund, neuchev, and both 24 and 25 1sts with all 2023 2nd's maybe not this much but he probably gets more than eich, I wouldn't give up that much but the ask is always higher than the final price

Vancouver Pettersson?
Yep but it might be nothing but might not be

Adding Quinn and Peterka into the PK rotation was recent. They haven’t been part of that since game one so total SHTOI is probably not indicative overall. They have recently gone to 8 forwards in that rotation which seems to have had them better at pressure though the results have not moved the needle in terms of percentage.

That said, good defensively and good PKing are not the same. Even strength defensive play does not make one an excellent PKer and vice versa.

I am just a guy on a couch but where are the defensive prospects from drafting? We are getting good prospects but whats with the two russians and a goalie last year and 3 forwards this year we have no defensive prospects. If you look at the defensive prospects on the board last year there are multiple defenders who fell from the first round.
I do believe they should have drafted some D higher in the draft but the talent might not have been there.

the 4 D are still young. People seem to forget that.
When drafting D in mid 2nd and later you should not expect anything from thrm till 4 yrs later at least.

my feeling given his actions says Johnson is signing here After ncaas.

as of now the team should be drafting a goalie every year in rounds 2+4.

That leaves trading for a young defender and prospects picks will have to go the other way.

Adams says he wants the group to grow together but where are those defenders? Ya we have Power, Samuelsson and Dahlin even if you want to throw Joker in there(been terrible as of late) we don't have a 5-6 defender anywhere in sight.

I can see them making a trade if necessary. im not trading a 23 1st rounder

The teams needs the youth in the system that a 2023 1st would bring them by 24/25 or 35/36

but to compete now they should bring in someone else but it doesnt shake up team chemistry. the idea this person could bridge till some of the youth develops
Krebs down and Quinn up......only for a day? Krebs out tomorrow for a break even though he has drastically looked better? Asplund or Vinnie the other out if so?

Gonna see a lot of this as they (mis)handle this roster and 3 goalies.

remember they are on the road tomorrow so they needed to decide who won’t play. They are going to rotate among the 4 with waiver exemptions

It's tough because there isn't really a comparison. I guess the Jack or Karlsson would be similar trades.

Maybe something like

Matthew Savoie
Casey Mittelstadt
Henri Jokiharju
2023 1st
2024 2nd (conditions to become 1st)

That's a lot for Petterson, but it's something I would be comfortable doing, a trade for an elite player like that should be have assets going the other way that hurts to give up. He fits our age bracket, good offensively and is better defensively than our entire forward group. The 2023 1st is a lot to give up but Petterson is to me a top tier forward and there's no guarantee any of those assets would be as effective as him in the NHL. He isn't a big dude, but he doesn't play small and he knows how to battle. Doubt Vancouver would want to do that unless he forces a trade out.

You used him on the pk as evidence he’s a good defender. They don’t use him. He’s the 5th pair.

You used a xG chart to show he’s a good defender that doesn’t account for his QoC. That’s not evidence he’s good defensively.

If buffalo, a poor 5v5 team is sitting their second best 2way player by the stats you’re showing the coach should be sacked immediately.

That's a lot for a middle six center.

Maybe on the Sabres since we have Tage, but Petterson is about as impactful as any center in the NHL and would be the 2nd highest impact forward we have on our team except MAYBE Tuch. The only real hesitation I would have to adding him to the Sabres is that he would be more of the same of what we have. We would have 2 legitimate #1 centers and in the event that one of them gets injured, we could have another one that is ready to step up.

Totally agree. And the post I was responding to suggesting his minuscule amount of PK time was indicative of anything was asinine.

Frankly everyone on Buffalos stats need to be Dahlin corrected. The more you play with 26 the better you look.
