Vancouver is ready to trade almost any player. Chychrun on the block. Gavrikov is also available. I think there are options and there are many more than I said.
All I know is that GMs have said that it is hard to find trade partners right now because so many teams are at or over the cap and a lot of GMs aren’t sure if they are buyers or sellers yet.

So, while you think there are deals out there to be made, it may not be that easy. If there are not a lot of sellers, then prices are likely overly high right now.

The trade market isn't constipated for a team like Buffalo with unlimited cap space. We're constipated because we're intentionally holding it in. (Terry refusing to spend $$)
Or it’s constipated because there are not a lot of GMs that have decided to be sellers yet and as such prices are sky high for guys like Chychrun that wants out.

The decision to buy or sell is certainly the canvas these GM's must paint upon. We repeatedly have seen a team fall apart for a half dozen games (the Penguins, the Blues, the Sens, the Flames), only to go on winning streak of about the same length. The Blues... win 3, lose 8, win 7... The Flames with two losing streaks over 5 games but went hard on payroll over the summer. Few teams have crashed so hard that they are out. Even Vancouver with the talk in the Vancouver press about almost everyone being available is still just 5 back with two games in hand on the Oilers for the 8th spot in the west.

The teams that look like pure sellers are Columbus, Anaheim, San Jose, Chicago, and Arizona. There isn't a whole lot there to pick through - it's like the clearance rack that has been long since picked over.

I wonder if Shattenkirk is rental worthy for the rest of the season, haven't watched any Ducks games though to see how he is doing.

If Columbus and Chicago are ready to sell, then Gavrikov or Peeke or Murphy makes a lot of sense to us.

He's one of the guys I see Ducks fans complaining about regularly, and not just this season but last season also. Sounds like his defensive game has really fallen off a cliff. I'm sure some of that could be related to the team being bad, he really hasn't been all that good since his days with the Blues. He had a decent year with Tampa a few years back, but Tampa was a wagon and he played with Sergachev, Hedman and Mcdonagh primarily.

I think the value of getting this core into the playoffs is very high, even if they don't get far. Need to start getting that experience to make it more real in their heads, and give them a real experience to set their future expectations against. Understanding what it really takes can help some players with taking the next step.

I don't think we get there without a few trades, but I do think a couple trades could get us there.

I would like to see 1 third line 2-way or heavy style defensive player, and TWO 4-6 capable genuine NHL dmen.

I would love the perfect trade for longterm dmen.... BUT to get to the post season this year I would be fine with moving a low draft pick and/or any of driftwood (Bryson, Fitz, Pilut, Hino, Olof, Aspland) to take on solid high cap dmen from Western Conference teams that will be UFA's. Don't buy big, buy its time to make some bottom roster adjustments to support the core.

Yes I realize its a "development year," but the opportunity is there and it seems to me the player assesments we needed to do are far enough along to identify the players that absolutely will not be part of the future. So there should be know impediment to improving the bottom group.

Buffalo is up against the cap -- it's just not up against it in 2023/2023. Lots of big contracts coming up.

We basically can afford to take one two big additions before Dahlin's contract would put us against the cap limit after next season.

Tampa kept Bogosian instead of him, which should tell you something.

It hasn't been good but he might be a guy to target. That 12-team NTC though...
Yea, just wonder if he could hold down the fort with Joker out then then fall to the 3rd pair when he gets back, should be enough to keep Fitz out of the regular lineup.

Pretty sure they wouldnt have had the cap to match the offer he got from the Ducks anyways. Surprisingly hes got a 0-8-8 statline and is only a -1 on that team.

Tampa didn't keep either. Bogosian went to Toronto. They didn't have cap space and knew they could fill in with others and they did - with Luke Schenn on the cheap.

Huh, why did I think they kept him for an extra season? Maybe the similar colors are messing with my memory.

Broke went to Toronto for that one season and then they brought him back on the Schenn-sized vet deal. Shattenkirk is making considerably more on the followup deal he signed with the Ducks. Of the three, I still like Schenn from a style fit but he's probably going to command more as a rental and it would be nice to see them shop for someone useful for more than just this year.

Being up against the cap in 2025-2026 is not an excuse for being $25 million under the cap in 2022, it's all the more reason they should spend some of it now.

We have plenty of room for a $5-7million aav top 4 defenseman long term.
