I don't understand your post. Would I have enjoyed the 4 years missing the playoffs with ROR on the team?

Or you think he would of taken us to the playoffs?

Your post is moot.
a more enjoyable product would have been enough. Given your harsh critique on the current regime it would be fun to see what you would have written 2/3 years ago about Thompson and the implications.

Like media guys have talked about coming out of the GM meetings, the trade market is constipated right now and there may not be depth guys that really fit what the Sabres need that are available for decent prices right now.

:dunno:
Vancouver is ready to trade almost any player. Chychrun on the block. Gavrikov is also available. I think there are options and there are many more than I said.

Luke Schenn with a 2 year extension for 1 of our 3 2nd round picks. Would love to see him paired with Power. Adds toughness, clears the net stay at home absolutely what this team needs.

Tage Thompson is the best player in the deal.
ROR was the best player on the deal at the time and we needed help, not two cap dumps and a young player who wasn't ready. Now Thompson has flourished, but this has nothing to do with the fact that then in trade.

Was my comment incorrect? He isn't the best player?

Now yes, then no, and then we needed another return to improve the team. Botterill was a donkey.
My post wasn't past tense. Its hard for you to just agree. You have to spin it cause you have Botts so much

Just because Tage has turned out to be a star doesn't mean that Botterill wasn't a grade-A moron for making the trade (likely at the behest of the Pegulas).

It was a terrible return for a legit #1 center and we frankly got lucky that Tage is as good as he is.

It turns out that you answered the original post incorrectly, then this is your problem.

So I am not allowed to say Tage is the best player? It seems to upset people here.

People should move on from their hate of Botts.

The trade market isn't constipated for a team like Buffalo with unlimited cap space. We're constipated because we're intentionally holding it in. (Terry refusing to spend $$)

The debate on Sabres twitter between making moves and being a year away misses the point.

The moves they need to make now are the ones they should have made in the offseason and didn’t. Top 4 D. Goalie. Defensive Center. Can’t get goalie now so it’s ride and likely die with what we have. But you can get the other things.

and here’s why you should. Because those aren’t the moves you were/are a year away from. Next off-season should be fixing the third line, moving on from the pieces that aren’t going to be long term core members, and figuring out the bottom pair D. The reason those are next offseason moves is that we took this season to see who would, and wouldn’t, be a part of it from what we already had here. And that wait can continue,

But,

Adams isn’t going to do all of those things. Adams does very little. We aren’t just one year away…because we are one year behind. Have to catch up so that we can be in position to do the year away things next year.

If this team doesn't succeed I will blame Adams and so will the ownership. If this team doesn't make the playoffs in the next 2 years Adams might not have a job.

Do I blame Adams for not improving this defense and not only that we have zero defensive prospects aside from Johnson who has 1 foot out the door. So will I blame Adams? Yes, I will blame Adams, not saying he should be fired, he gets his chance but if the defense isnt improved sooner or later ownership will blame him too. Boosh is a free agent after next year, Joker is fine for 5-6, Bryson shouldn't be in the top 6, Clague and Pilut are fine for 7-8 Changes have to be made sooner or later.
While I think the team should make the playoffs within 2 years, I'm not sacking Adam's if they don't, unless he makes so many egregious decisions that he can't be trusted with the future of the team.

Firing a guy should not be a punishment, it should be a decision based on the future. If Adams is too slow adding depth to the team, hes to blame but it does not mean he has to go, if he shows signs of development as a GM.

A constant parade of new management will not help this team succeed more quickly,

I think right now a lot of the asking prices especially for Dmen is probably pretty high. There have been a ton of injuries to Dmen this season, and not that many that are currently on the market. You have people speculating about guys like Schenn in Vancouver, but they are 13-8-3 since their terrible 0-7 start. They may still feel they have a playoff shot so may not be sellers just yet. There are several teams that could fall into that type of position also.

Samuelsson CLONE. What we need is for someone to clone Cobra.
He's in Ottawa ?

If the Kid line continues to struglle we are a one line team ?

I take it Couture is too expensive for all the capologists here ? And you already have a Couture in Skins ? I "think" he would come here to play if asked.

That's the role I'd target for our Diggs trade. I don't think that's Chychrun, but I expect it to cost his price.

In the meantime, target veteran, stay-home defenders on costly, expiring contracts.

Sammy getting banged up is inevitable and he's the linchpin.

People still crying about the RoR trade ? RoR on this team since the trade would have done NOTHING. Must be Tim Murray fans. It actually is quite hilarious, not a single Murray trade EVER worked out good, while Botts traded for Thompson and Skinner, ya know the superstar who is a top 5 player in the league and another guy who is playing at a 95+ point pace almost halfway through the season.

Botts was not a good GM, but he was Infinitely better then that moron, arrogant prick Tim Murray.

I think the Couture issue would be his 8 million cap hit until he's 37. He's already shown a drop in effectiveness in his 30's and while he's still a solid player I don't think he ages like Pavelski. Being a big Bills fan, and I believe he was also a Sabres fan growing up I'm sure he would consider waiving for the Sabres, but would you want to commit 4 more years to a guy on the wrong side of 30?

That's it exactly - Couture is an $8M AAV for four more seasons after this one and he has a modified no-trade clause that he would accept a deal to only 3 teams. Basically, he controls destination and if Buffalo isn't one of those teams, it isn't happening. Also, it puts risk on the deal that if Couture's aging continues to cause his game to slide, removing his cap hit becomes even harder due to the NTC.
