I know that offer sheet is not happening, but this is not my idea, it was discussed in this thread before.
Sorry, I get off work and I am always a page or two behind

While an OS seems to be a legitimate tool, some people don't realize that they are nearly always retaliated against. With Quinn, Peterka and Power all going to be eligible for offer sheets, we are definitely living in a glass house currently

we'd be sitting so pretty if we didn't go on a 8 game losing streak even if we won 2 of those games we'd be in a great spot. lotta ground to make up but i believe

The interesting thing is how they've adapted to the injuries on defense. We can hope that as they get more healthy there, we see an uptick in wins but this stretch has them at 8-3-2 since that string of losses has them right back in the mix. We wanted growth and they're ahead of last season (.387 winning percentage compared to .516 as of today) by 8 points. Last year, they had had a 7-game, a 5-game, and a 4-game losing streak at this point in the season - they've had one bad stretch but have been much improved on a night to night basis and it's nice to finally have something to believe in.

He "made sure" that he was getting the Blues' 4th best forward prospect while taking on 2 cap dumps. He got absolutely clowned in that negotiation because he was a clown GM.
He got clowned into the best player in the deal. Ok. How’s Reinhart this year?

Missing the past 1.5 seasons of stats. But I’d much rather trade for this guy than chychrun

He's getting smooshed defensively compared to just last year, but he's also bearing the brunt of everything -- most d-zone starts, most d-zone faceoffs, and most TOI of all Columbus defenders. The issue is, he's UFA at the end of the year.

We need better D. Dahlin and Samuelsson are already having a hard time playing for so long. I think Adams should make some kind of move after the holidays. We're in the playoff mix right now.
I've said before that I don't blame Adams for the problems on D. Bryson and Fitzgerald seem to have taken big steps backwards, and Jokiharju keeps getting hurt...that's a lot of things going wrong at once.

That being said: those things did go wrong, and this team desperately needs another steady presence on D. I hope Adams is working on it, but it does take two to tango.

Edit: I find myself wondering if Bryson needs to be used strategically in specific matchups. He's one of the smallest D in the league, but also one of the best skaters. We were calling him the McDavid whisperer only a year or two ago. Maybe the best plan is to leverage him against speed/finesse/transition teams, and limit his minutes against the teams that like to play a more physical game 🤷

ROR was the best player in the deal.
Was.

Edit: With a .500 record during that 8 game slide. We're a playoff team right now, sittin pretty like a couple others have mentioned. I wanna see where we are near the end tail of January. A lotta those teams are beatable

Yeah, he's a solid #3/#4 guy and this season he's getting used as a #1 with a bunch of AHLers to play with. The other 3 top 4 D-men are out injured for CBJ. I imagine Samuelsson stats would look just like that too without Dahlin, Power and Joker over a 20+ game sample size.
It makes a lot of sense, the main thing is to agree with him on the extension.

And yes, I'd want to be sure he'd agree to an extension before the trade. It seems like trade and extends always seem to work out in the NHL because teams always get it figured out before the trade.

If UPL has figured it out, the roster is fine

That would certainly go a long way toward answering a big question about the roster. But...if the Sabres skaters play most nights like they did last night, they're going to lose a lot more than they win, regardless of who is in net. So, a few upgrades to the roster would be ideal.

I know we all want to talk goaltending, but I just don’t think it’s a giant current issue. All of the goalies have played well when the team plays well in front of them…for the most part…there’s some inconsistency

I think we’re missing two things that would really help this team.

First, another solid defensemen. Whether it’s a top 4 quality guy who can play with Power on the second pairing or boosh on the third pairing OR just a solid bottom pairing guy to pair with Boosh. I just feel like when healthy, we really only have 5 guys you are real happy to play…and when is a team fully healthy? I think KA will make this move

Second, I’d love a solid veteran winger to try and find a home on the Mitts or Jost lines. We can all disagree on Mitts, but like it or not, he’s going to be playing this year and likely centering a line. I’d love Olofsson to be sent packing, but I don’t have faith in that happening during the season. And Olofsson really needs to go to make room. So I don’t see this move being made.

This is the closet I can find to what Armstrong said. But I specifically remember him saying the Sabres wanted Tage over other prospects.

If this team doesn't succeed I will blame Adams and so will the ownership. If this team doesn't make the playoffs in the next 2 years Adams might not have a job.

Do I blame Adams for not improving this defense and not only that we have zero defensive prospects aside from Johnson who has 1 foot out the door. So will I blame Adams? Yes, I will blame Adams, not saying he should be fired, he gets his chance but if the defense isnt improved sooner or later ownership will blame him too. Boosh is a free agent after next year, Joker is fine for 5-6, Bryson shouldn't be in the top 6, Clague and Pilut are fine for 7-8 Changes have to be made sooner or later.
