And I wasn't defending Botts or alleging that he was good, so much as knocking Adams down a peg.

I pointed out that Skinner, Tage, Samuelsson, Dahlin, Cozens are all Botts picks/acquisitions, not Adams. This is the Botts core, not the Adams core.

A GM’s core is something they build. Only Skinner and Dahlin are holdovers from the core group Botts built in his 3 year tenure.

The core group Murray left Botts

Top 6 -> Jack, ROR, Sam, Okposo and Kane
Top 4 -> Risto, McCabe and Bogo
Starting goalie -> Lehner

The core group Botts left us with

Top 6 -> Jack, Sam, Skinner, VO and Marcus Johansson
Top 4 -> Risto, McCabe, Montour and Dahlin
Starting Goalie -> Ullmark (sort of)


Our current core group so far

Top 6 -> Skinner, Tage, Tuch, Cozens, Quinn and Peterka

The Sabres are in a really terrible position to be offer sheeting other teams players.

With a very conservative salary structure and several extremely young stud players coming up on RFA off of their ELCs, the retribution would likely be so painful that it is probably best not even to contemplate

I'm actually going to call some BS here.

Thompson was on his ELC from 2017 summer of 2020.
He was traded in Summer of 2018.
18-19 - Prospect still. Prize of the RoR Trade. Not trading him.
19-20 - Out injured nearly entire season. Played 1 game in Buffalo and 16 in Rochester.
Adams was hired in Summer of 20. Pre NHL draft.

In what window would GMJB sell low on TT. It wasn't at the trade deadline because he was injured. It wasn't at the draft because it hadn't happened yet. Maybe GMJB wasn't going to qualify him and try to extract some value. But still, nobody was getting traded during the period between the season shutdown and the playoffs.

There is actually one time period that it makes some sense where a Sabres GM would take a low ball offer, and that was summer of 21 before the Kraken expansion draft. He was making 1.4M a season and on his way to bustsville. Buffalo didn't want to lose him for nothing if they didn't protect him. Maybe GMKA was looking to pick up another forward out there but didn't want to lose TT for nothing. Logically though, I can't see a period of time under JB it would have made sense for him to try to sell low on him.

I'm not saying this didn't happen, but I think the only time it would have made sense for a GM to sell low on him was GMKA and the Seattle expansion draft.

thr only way I could see this is possibly what lead to his firing where Botts talked of doing this deal.

Samuelsson— he probably knew his father
Cozens— a broken lock is correct twice a day
ROR trade was a disaster
he overpays for Miller

I know that offer sheet is not happening, but this is not my idea, it was discussed in this thread before.
