As a Clarkson guy you must know it's very likely he's familiar enough with NY weathers to nope the f*** off to SF
Since he has a Minnesota GF, I doubt the cold weather is that big of a turnoff.

Plus, we can get Craig Rivet to explain the cost of living difference between SJ & Buffalo.

:sarcasm:

Seriously though, my guess it's as simple as SJ gave him the best money and opportunity offer out there.

We're basically in agreement, but I would expect getting out of the cold to at least break ties.

Top end draft capital:
2023 1st (top 10 protected)
2024 1st

Top end prospect capital:
Rosen
Savoie
Ostlund
Kulich
Levi

Medium draft capital:
Johnson
Kisakov
Poltapov
Portillo

Roster players:
Olofsson
Krebs
Mittelstadt
Fitzgerald
Bryson
Pilut

You could put a trade together that would work for two high ends trades, and it wouldn't really touch the main roster. These are just examples:

Chychrun:
2023 unprotected 1st
Rosen
Bryson

Horvat:
2024 1st
Ostlund (breaking my own rule)
Mittelstadt
Pilut

Mix and match how you will.
Still the team's roster improvement captial:

I wouldn't want to 'sell low' on Krebs yet - but otherwise i am in full agreement.

Adams shouldn't need to come close to using all of these assets to acquire everything we need. We can afford to 'overpay' for the right guys & still have some forward prospects / high picks left in the cupboard.

I know getting Horvat is a luxury, and that's he'll be expensive, and that it's not a huge need...... but.....

Having Thompson, Cozens, and Horvat down the middle would make this team a playoff team.

And with Vancouver asking for roster adds because they think they can make the playoffs, I'm all for making a move. The want a center, a right shot D, and another 20-something player.

Mittelstadt
Olofsson
Jokiharju

I assume that a few other teams would beat that offer, but the Sabres have some of what Vancouver is looking for.

Just a list of what is available for use. I'm firmly in the "keep Krebs" camp.

I'd far, far, far rather use our resources for someone that fills long term needs. Failing that, we keep them. The absolute last thing I want to do is use assets for a rental so we can miss the playoffs by a couple points or get obliterated in 4 games if we do get in.

I know it's been a long time. Selling off prime assets for a rental this year is a complete and utter waste.

I have no interest in Horvat based on the likely cost/term of his next contract.

If I'm making a trade with Vancouver - assuming the rumours about Demko are true - it would be to overpay for him.

I would only make a Horvat trade if the extension came as part of the deal.

Would only make a Horvat trade is the extension came as part of the deal.
Why would we EXTEND Horvat at the price he's likely to command?

Hold the course. Tage and Cozens are our long term top 2 centers. We can get a 3rd line center FAR FAR cheaper than Horvat.

Plus he'd blow up the cap structure that Adams is trying to build.

Horvat is a good player......but he's not right for us.

The only two guys I'd pay big money for are the right RD or right goalie. And even then, it wouldn't be the 8m/per Horvat will probably get on the open market.

If I could give this 10 likes I would. This should exactly be the plan.

If the RIGHT guy comes along...I've got no issue using our insane prospect depth and copious cap space.

Horvat isn't it. I don't think Chychrun is it.

I'd be hesitant on trading Krebs. I just have a feeling he's going to breakout soon.
