Kopitar will pick up his production at some point. If he doesn't, Lombardi has a serious tough decision to make.

that doesn't look anything like Garth Snow

Travis Hamonic doesn't want to raise his children in the mean streets of Oyster Bay or Garden City. He certainly won't want to mess with the even rougher streets of the South Bay, players talk I'm sure he heard from Ryan Smyth how he barely made it out alive.

So true.

Send Kopitar + McBain to the Isles for Ryan Strome and Hamonic.
Though the Isles wouldnt do it.

Colin Miller, who would still be 1+ years away from making the Kings has 7 points in 14 games on the Bruins blueline...ties him with Kopitars 7 points...altough Kopitar has tons more minutes and PP time...oh, and Miller is a rookie dman...not a top center veteran.

you know you're right...we should trade Kopitar for Miller...nevermind the bruins would never accept

It's up there with the most ridiculous comments ever spoken by an athlete.

BTW, wonder if the rumors over the summer of McDavid moving into Smyth's house ever happened. I'm sure Smyth charged him rent and installed a coin washer/dryer.

haha probably

"I really saw the Kings going in the right direction."

"so blessed to be a King (right now)"

"(goal) is to win the Stnaley Cup. We got a team that is capable of doing that"

You are so full of ****, Smyth. Glad you decided to pull up stakes and go to the worst team in the league and miss out on that Stanley Cup that very season that was ostensibly your goal.

Bull ****ter. Plain and simple.

I get wanting your kids to go to school in Edmonton. Alberta has one of the best education systems in North America (obviously failed on me). That said you had one more year on your frigging deal you could have been away fro what 9 months.
Doesn't matter though it gave us cap space for Carter, and Fraser who was a stud 4th liner.
I actually do not think we would have won the cup in 2012 if cryan ryan didn't demand a deal

Ryan Smyth says watching Kings win Cup was 'tough to swallow'

Maybe watching the second one in 2014 made you throw up, Lyin' Ryan.

He said he was happy with his decision to return to Edmonton. “No regrets,†he said. “Obviously, you can’t live in the past. You can’t sit there and dwell on things. My family’s safe, and that’s the most important thing.â€

Man, those mean streets of Manhattan Beach must really be something else these days. I never would have guessed. When I lived in the South Bay, they rolled up the sidewalks every night at 8 p.m.

What a total ass hole.

wasn't there reports of his kids being bullied? I mean there are going to be bullies everywhere, but I cannot fault a guy for looking out for his kids (although does this teach them to run away from problems?). That said I can blame him for bailing on 1 year left on his contract.
Could have sent the wife and kids back to Edmonton where they would be treated like gods, and been apart for them for 9 months less holidays. Plenty of people have to work away from home and make a hell of a lot less than the what $6M he was making.
For that he is an ass hole...not for looking out for his kids.

I never heard that. And I can't find it anywhere on the Internet. When he was interviewed later about the trade, all he said was that

Smyth said that there were no illnesses or health concerns in his family. In explaining further, Smyth said, "My wife and I discussed it for a while, that we wanted to come back to Canada, just for personal reasons. The kids are starting school situations, so we thought it was best to come back. … My wife and I discussed it just after the end of the season. I didn’t want (media reports) to explode to the level that it did. So yes, I did request (a trade) for family reasons."

So, if there were reports about his kids being bullied, it was later on and it was probably "revisionist history" so that Smyth himself didn't look so bad for doing what he did.

wish I was better at the internet to track anything down

My mom used to always tell me about these coin-op toilets back home in Great Britain. I just assume Smyth had one of those installed as well.

That's awesome... Of course here in the States there are going to be "those people" that find interesting and amusing ways of lodging a protest against that sort of tyranny.

I just figured it was one of those things where his kids are going to start school and he don't want them bouncing from one school system to another where they would have to make new friends, readjust, etc.

Yeah, sure.

Then...well, then, there is this:

"It's very intriguing to hear your name rumble around for a contender," Smyth said. "It's flattering. As a player, you want to win. That's the ultimate goal in professional sports, and in hockey, it's the Stanley Cup. So ..."

He paused.

"Um, you know," he said, "there's a lot at stake, for sure."

Smyth would not be willing to leave his family for as much as four months, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn't leave for the right situation.

"Well, if it ever came that way, my family would come," Smyth said. "Yep. Absolutely. We're one, and we go together wherever."

Aren't two of the kids in school?

"I think they can learn a lot more sometimes away from the school," Smyth said. "That wouldn't be a problem."

As I said above, the guy is absolutely full of ****.

That's how it is in Europe. I always carried coins with me when I traveled. You can't even enter the restroom without dropping a quarter.

It cost me a quid to use the khazi in harrods, london (probably fifteen years ago now, but I dont hold a grudge)

Enroth gets ANOTHER non back to back start.

He is that good? Quick is that bad? We are hoping he will take an extension?
I lean towards the last, while the first is likely true as well, we have never been the team to give our backup many games.
We talked about doing it with Jones, but we ended up riding Quicks strong play. Did we learn from losing Jones? Is Quick good but not great enough to not give him rest?
Opinions?

I think Sutter is just trying to spread out ALL the icetime, even for the goaltenders, to keep everyone fresh. But if he's a good goalie and you trust him, why not give him 20+ games to keep your stud ready for the playoffs?

Enroth has been great, and deserves any starts he gets. It won't hurt Quick to not play 70+ games.

I don't disagree... But was this true last year as well w/Jones?

I definitely think that part is trying to keep Quick rested and well for the playoffs, and being able to trust Enroth.

But I don't think Jones was not to be trusted. Enroth VS Jones, I think too early to tell? But any opinions on why Jones never seemed to get the starts?

I guess this is the point where I project # of starts for Enroth based on what he has gotten so far.... Meh, maybe tomorrow. It does seem as though we are more willing to give Enroth net time this year, and I don't think Quick has been bad or Enroth has been amazing comparing against Quick and Jones last year. Both Jones and Enroth have been very worthy backups. More of a conversation of our willingness to give backups, particularly Jones, starts in past years vs now.
This was announced as the plan last year too, but never quite seemed to happen.

No clue, but Sutter has a history of riding a guy into the friggin ground even going back to Kipper. Maybe he's finally learning, or maybe he just trusts Enroth as a vet. Or maybe Jones was just a dick. Who knows. My opinion is just that Enroth is trustworthy and they're trying to keep Quick at 60-65ish games instead of 70+ because Quick would play every night if he could.
