Kings already have Gab's at 5, Brown at almost 6, Carter at 5, Quick at 5, Doughty at 7, Muzzin and Martinez at 4. That's a lot of money. Almost 40 million in 7 players.

Now you need Kopitar at 9-10? Toffoli with a new deal in 1.5 seasons and Lucic a UFA?

Your point stands, but you can do this exercise (and many times, its worse) for just about any team in the league. The successful ones especially. In fact, that looks better than a whole heap of em.

Lucic likely is this year's rental.

Lucic is playing better than Brown, Gaborik and even Kopitar. Why let him go?

On a side note, where does Dwight King fit?

Kings are all of a sudden deep at LW.

Pearson, Lucic, Brown, Clifford and now King.

Nolan is a RW, so that doesn't really help...If the pre-season lines mean anything they will move Lewis to 4th line center, scratch Andreoff, and put Shore between Brown and King?

Sadly if you consider success as winning it all there is only one other team to look at. And I can hope we stay out of the cap hell they are in but I don't see it happening. You either you to cap hell or you lose very key pieces. Chicago is at 47+M for 7 players right now.

I don't think Lombardi got Lucic as just a rental. I'm sure Deano's going to do everything in his power to re-sign Lucic. Hopefully, Lucic will one to remain a king as well.

Agree, and imo the trick is being able to move a piece while getting a piece back that will provide close to the level of the player departing. It's not going to be possible to fully replace Kopi, but I do think they can get 2 pieces at min that are upgrades and cover his loss while also gaining some cap. Having Carter step up like he has is invaluable.

Will be interesting to see who is on their way out if he does stay.

PS Brad loved your reply on the Norris thread on the main boards. Can't believe that guy was trying to make a case for gio over drew lol.

well in order to keep lucic I think gaborik or Brown would need to be moved..not sure who is trading for those contract. That or the cap needs to go way, up, Kopitar needs to sign for cheep, or maybe A-mart is moved out.
As for the LW depth I htink it's perfect once King is back. Pearson, Lucic, King, Clifford down the left side. Gaborik/Brown, Toffoli, Brown/Gabork on the right.

Lombardi has bean big on Lucic since his draft year, so I am sure that he wants to retain him. Just not sure if LA will have the cap room.

Going to have this same discussion again.

Where does the money come from? Or is Kopitar still going to sign for 7 million?

No one takes hometown discounts.

Exactly, who is taking on Brown or Gaborik's contracts?

I like Gaborik and I'm sure teams still feel he could be useful for a couple of seasons, the problem is he has FIVE remaining after this season.

It would have to be a team who thinks they have a serious shot. The upside is that you aren't going to get that kind of gamebreaking potential under $5M usually. The downside is the uncertainty of the last couple years.

Might have to "over pay" to move Gabo, in three years his buyout would be??? Probably doable for say Fla. or Ott. It's adding the Kicker like King or McBain. Dean can find something in the weeds. 1 guy, the pick. And ya keep Lucho jes where he izo. Amen?

We have the half price Lucic now, but to keep him, it'll be full price and then some. It's really like two different players.

I don't know what you said, but sounds like a plan.

Gaborik announces his retirement at the end of the year, voiding his remaining contract. Kings hire Gaborik as a special consultant, with the same salary he had as a player. In an unrelated note, shortly preceding his retirment, Gaborik had discovered a horse's head mysteriously placed in his bed.

Do it Dean.

Yeah, unsure where the money's going to come from, but I think Lombardi will be open to trade(s) to create cap space to sign Lucic.

Money isn't that hard to come by... with Kopi at 9, Lucic at 6 that makes it possible to pretty much ice the same team with a 400k cap increase. Only other players that need to be re-upped are Lewis/Weal/McBain/McNabb, none of which are looking at crazy raises. Lewis can **** off if he wants more money, Weal/McNabb are RFA's, as long as McBain is cheaper then Greene who cares.

-If the cap goes up no problem.
-If money comes in tight then dump Greene/Brown.
-It really isn't a problem.

King: plenty of room for King when he comes back... wingers that are better then King... Toffoli/Lucic, Gaborik if he starts playing better. Pearson's in the same range as King.... Pearson being more offensive, but King having the edge on size/defense... and King has shown the ability to play 20+ min in the playoffs. So he's about the 4th/5th best wing on the team. (did not forget Lewis/Brown)

Please tell me I'm somehow reading this wrong, but are you really saying that you are putting pearson and King on the same level? :help::facepalm:

With all due respect, this 1,000 post limit on threads is absolutely ridiculous. Unless this website is dealing with ancient servers, it's absolutely unnecessary. vBulletin is well advanced the infancy stages.

I wanted to respond to JU's latest charade that he thinks Kopi is gone and I can't do it now, unless I go through an advanced way of quoting his posts, which quite frankly takes up too much of my time.

So the hell with it...except to say that "Kopi is gone" is a ridiculous statement on its own.

Not sure if i'm just lucky, but i do post from my phone the majority of the time and haven't had issues with ads for a long while now.

Look at TOI... King regularly plays over 15 mins a game. Pearson has not. Maybe if Pearson sticks on the top line sure. King makes Lewis money, can log big mins on any line, isn't a defensive liability, and scored 1 less goal then Brown last year. Yes King at 1.9 is as important to the team as Pearson. If Pearson was on Kings level defensively he'd be a lock in the top 6. He's only now just getting a look because other players have been ineffective. Conversely... if King was on Pearson's level offensively he'd be a lock in the top 6 as well. That's the point... one's better at offense, ones better a defense, and it isn't me saying this. It is Sutter with the players TOI.

It isn't all about scoring with Kings hockey... except when it comes to Lewis/Brown.

Edit: I checked Pearson's average TOI a while ago... it was something like 13:50 while he was leading the team in goals last year... it's kinda shocking/funny... if he's playing with Kopitar maybe he'll log more time.

I just LOVE playing whack-a-mole with my mouse cursor, trying to click the link to the thread I want, when the screen is scrolling up and down due to adds. LOVE IT.
