I wanted him on the isles. But we can’t afford to give up that package. Don’t have the team to make that gamble

100% true.

That said even if the Isles had the picks...

  1. Brady didn't do himself any favors this season in terms of showing he's the leader/difference-maker everyone makes him out to be.
  2. You cannot give up that kind of package for only 2 guaranteed years of a player...Who has a NMC so you couldn't flip him again if he wouldn't resign in his UFA/walk year.

For him get to a call up the cupboard would have to be pretty - you finish it I can’t do it ..LGI
He’ll be in an NHL lineup come pre-season. Then come the start of the regular season he’ll be playing in Derek King’s hometown of Hamilton.

Agreed. I just really love The player and love the element he brings. True throwback power forward.

Right - We're searching for that type of player, but Brady T. ain't it.

Need to find the next Brady T who is under 25.
Would you trade Barzal for that similar package? All future picks no high end prospects? Not saying it would happen but interesting to think about.

Getting just picks is risky. Wonder if they put any restrictions on the 2029 1st?

1000% yes.

Again with respect...Why can't people view picks as just assets that can be re-traded? With 9.1M cap opened up going forward and 3+ 1st rounders in the organization you have so many MORE OPTIONS to build a team around Schaefer.

At this rate with and already thin for agency, gonna be a lot of competition out there for guys. The trade route might be the best option. But we gotta be creative.

If there’s not a lot of prices, replacing Lee with the guy like Mason Marchment might make sense at the right price.

Not necessarily.

I'm sticking with a proposal I mentioned several weeks ago.

Barzal to Chicago for Moore, Rinzel, West, and picks 4, 34, & 66.

If this Tkachuk trade proves indicative of the market (and not just FLA's wet dream scenario - in a period in which their window is still wide open), then I'm thinking Barzal can bring in that type of package because be it Chicago or Montreal or even a Seattle, several teams have more than enough prospect and draft pick depth to pull something like that off while barely making a dent in their system.

And Barzal would change their complexion considerably, immediately.

That’s an insane package. Don’t think Chicago would make that deal. That would be an unprecedented deal. That being said I’d love it.

I came up with a similar package for Barzal but not as many assets coming back.

Sens flipping those picks for Robertson or Thomas? Surely they have to do something

It was reported a few days ago that Thomas is staying put. Robertson would have to want to sign long term in Ottawa, that’s not something I can see him willing to do.

See folks...

What the Panthers just did is when you give up 1st round picks to "reward" your team - Because they're a Cup contender...Not just competing for the 8th seed.

You need to be keeping your 1st rounders, or trading for <25 year olds, until you've identified a core of players that could compete for the Cup on their own. Then you can start sending out 1sts and propsects for players like Schenn...NOT before.

When I shot that proposal out a few weeks ago (in response to the quote from Bedard that he'd really, really love to play with Barzal), I pointed out a long list of ChiTown prospect names that made the likes of Moore, Rinzel, and West immediate afterthoughts while also pointing out that Chicago has three 1st and two 2nds in next year's draft and 3 picks in the first two rounds in 28 as well.

They could literally give up the farm without giving up the farm to make such a deal happen.
