Brady wasn’t waiving for the Isles, this was specifically for Florida, which makes it kinda crazy that Ottawa was able to get that much out of them. That’s a major haul.
yeah....but i just do not think Lee goes for it.Look at the Benn contract - 1m guaranteed and then easy bonuses that bring it to 3-4m. As long as the team can accrue cap space and not be on LTIR then the team can absorb that bonus $ - there will be some $ that rolls over but with 113 as the cap next year they can take it
Yeah...
Rebuild.

Ottawa probably demanded players at first that Florida wasn’t moving and then settled on the picks. You have to think they wanted Lundell or Forsling in return at first.Brady wasn’t waiving for the Isles, this was specifically for Florida, which makes it kinda crazy that Ottawa was able to get that much out of them. There is no appetite there for a rebuild right now. Ownership will not sign off.

Probably for the 1st time since joining this board. I totally agree with Periferal about Barzal. This offseason is like the perfect storm. The cap going up again, top players wanting out (more to come!), teams going for it, insane prices (trades and signings)......Darche has to capitialize on this.Tkachuk had a bad year, only 2 years left on his deal, a full NMC, and wanted to go to Florida....And still returned THREE 1st round picks plus.
Even with Barzal's 22 team no-trade list, the Isles MUST explore what he can return in a trade. Some teams are desperate to add this offseason and all you need is 2 to try an outbid themselves. Again I'm not pushing Barzal out the door, but given all circumstances, and the cap going up, the return for him could be game-changing in terms of building a true Cup contender.
No. I would need one young player in return, then two high draft picks.Would you trade Barzal for that similar package? All future picks no high end prospects? Not saying it would happen but interesting to think about.
Getting just picks is risky. Wonder if they put any restrictions on the 2029 1st?
Hellebuyck to Florida, on deck.4 team list - We never had a chance even if the assets were available. Florida just needs a goalie now.
Ottawa is likely going to trade for a Top-6 player with all those picks to save some face to their lineup.
Would Montreal move Hage for Barzal? I find it doubtful based on what we’ve seen in the past. What would Chicago offer? If anything, I’m asking for Eklund’s buddy Frondell. Seattle has absolute garbage to offer in return and I have no faith in Vancouver without them wanting to send back their $11.8m Engvall.Probably for the 1st time since joining this board. My theory is, Larkin is the next trade coming. They want to do this before the draft. Not far behind, I see Hellebuyck. If Darche is smart, he goes back to the teams that reached out to him and maybe some that haven't (i.e Chicago? Bedard favorite player?) and rake them over the coals. What about Montreal?? Florida loading up, maybe now Hage is avaiable? Utah? Teams who are serious about the cup, need to respond to Florida stacking their roster.
That I don't think Florida can pull off..but I think a very cheap route would be getting Gibson from Detroit or Markstrom from the Devils.Hellebuyck to Florida, on deck.
Montreal, Chicago, Buffalo, Boston...every team in the East that thinks they can make the playoffs has to respond to this trade. Yes, I think so. I think the following can be in playWould Montreal move Hage for Barzal? I find it doubtful based on what we’ve seen in the past. What would Chicago offer? Agreed. I was also thinking Binnington since they can fit contract.Hellebuyck to Florida, on deck.
This is interesting bc I’m not even sure it was a four team list. It started out that way but if the call was decided by Brady does it matter? The benefit goes to Ottawa in that respect, it forced a bit of a bidding process between a few teams that actually had legit pieces to make this work. Then Brady said he wanted Florida. If he goes public and demands a trade and it becomes clear that Florida is the only option the return is probably lower.4 team list - We never had a chance even if the assets were available. That’s the first mystery. My guess is Vancouver is one of them if he wants to go home. They really don’t have anything outside of Cootes and I highly doubt they’re moving him without trying to offload EP40 or Boser (neither of which I want anywhere near this roster with their contracts). I couldn’t even get an idea of the others. Possibly Chicago but what would they being willing to move? Prospects not named Frondell/whoever goes #4? Edmonton has absolutely nothing they can offer unless they want to send Leon back and we know that’s not happening. The first question is...
What are the 9 teams Barzal would accept a trade to...?
I don’t even want just a teams top prospect, I want a straight up blue chip in return that will project to make a major impact on the roster within 1-2 seasons. Minimal teams have those players.Montreal, Chicago, Buffalo, Boston...every team in the East that thinks they can make the playoffs has to respond to this trade. Yes, I think so. I think the following can be in play
Hage + from Montreal
Frondell from Chicago
Helenius/Mrtra and move from Buffalo
Hagen ++ from Boston
Again...Picks are just (valuable) assets that never need to actually be used.
I don't believe Van is on his trade list...Why, well he wants to win...Van is in for a very long rebuild. You have to look at top teams and good rising teams. That’s the first mystery.
