Canadian superstars need to stop being naive and use their power in the same way. Gather around McDavid in Edmonton and win one for Canada. Your American rivals aren't pretending that it's a fair competition anymore.

They have pride, just played 3 intense games against their American rivals, and aren't that naive. There will be a response at a certain point.

You would hope so but sadly I'm seeing more national pride from the US players than I am from Canadian players. I REALLY hope that they prove me wrong this offseason but I'm not betting on it.

Weren't there rumours that Connor was trying to recruit players to come to Edmonton also? I wonder how thats going.

We see the US Olympic guys all want to team up and requesting trades (Tkachuk, Larkin, Hellebyuck) but nothing about Canadians doing the same.
That is what it will take, Canadian players pissed about the current system and Canadian Stanley Cup drought. Who is going to have the balls to request a trade to Edmonton and only Edmonton to try and get us there? Anyone?

Somehow they’ll get Hellebuyck cause he only wants to play in Florida
They almost have the cap space but not the assets. They have about $7M with their entire team signed, except they don't have any goalies.

Who knows what they're going to do there. Here's a crazy thought: what if they sign Skinner as a back-up/1B? . . .

You’re telling me one foot in retirement Ryan Smyth and Duncan Keith weren’t good enough for you?

Florida is going to get Hellebuyck or something huge, and we are going to sign middling trash like we always do.
Right after you posted this we gave Dickinson a 5 year contract with a NMC and Florida gets Brady Tkachuk lmaooooo
Oilers wouldn't have the balls to make that move regardless. Our lane is sticking to the Henriques and Dickinsons of the world, even in the Holland era he sounded like he was going to have a stroke dealing for Ekholm, like his son was gung ho about the deal and he was unsure.
Extremely frustrating. Front office full of p***yes

To be fair, the Oilers were in on Rantanen and even had the contract number down. Just couldn’t get the assets to work.

I don’t think Stan is afraid to make a big splash like Holland was.

I think that most players don’t like playing in a fishbowl, most guys like the anonymity of playing in a US market where nobody knows their name and they can just live a normal life away from the rink. Add the fact that the weather is nicer down south, more friendly tax situation in most states, and no shock that 20-30 year olds want to live in that location. Wish it were different, and there is the odd exception, but this is the reality we are now in, and it’s only going to get worse with so many players having NMC’s.

For anyone who wants a translation:

"For the Sens to trade Brady Tkatchuk, there must have been some pressure. That pressure came from within the locker room too. Brady's teammates were concerned that Brady was not just the dumbest person they ever met, but that he may have active brain damage as well. They wanted him to go somewhere he could get the help he needed."
I always thought he looked a little Abby Normal.

Thanks for the assist! Posted it at intermission of the soccer game but for some goofy reason it wouldn't post the translation version. f*** that lying f***ing weasel.

I know what you're saying but other than Tavares it seems like most high profile Canadian UFA's aren't interested in coming back to Canada. It'd be nice if some of them would have some national pride, of course in this day and age that is seen as a bad thing by many so it is what it is.

A tale as old as time ... pun intended. Ol Mo Wanchuk had it nailed:

We're left rejoicing aging free agents re-signing in Edmonton with Canadian 'tax' provisions of extra year of term and no trade clause. The difference is Canadian no trade provisions become handcuffs when things don't work out on old player deals while top younger talent use those trade restrictions to direct their exit to a preferred destination leaving their old team (usually Canadian) forced to sell for pennies on the dollar.

Houston we have a problem. Signed Canadian junior team members of the NHL's American hostile takeover.
