It's about time. The good news is that they have more skating wingers now who can cover the ice more quickly (Engvall, Holmstrom, Gauthier, Barzal). And in addition to better defensive coverage they might do better on breakouts as well. I'm guessing Martin and Lee are not fans of this though. ;)
Yeah it’s harder way to play defensively for wingers but I also think the too two line wings will get some leeway to cheat offensively at times.

why broadcast to the league were making changes?

It doesn't really matter. Every team in the league has access to all of the footage they'd ever need to study an opponent.

Also, there's chatter among fans that teams will come up with specified game plans to beat the opposition. That doesn't really happen much in the NHL, until the playoffs hit. Teams barely practice at this point in the season and they certainly don't have the time to break down opponents in any detailed manner when they're playing every other night. This isn't the NFL where you get a week to prepare for your next opponent.

Teams focus on themselves and their own structures, and they'll get a cliff notes version of what the other team excels at or struggles with. Then they play the game, with their systems in place, and try to make minor adjustments depending on that particular game.

sure hear ya, would like to be able to sneak up on vancouver (whom are plastering the rags in the 1st) and the Leafs while they try to figure out our new d structure.

I suspect a team would recognize a different defensive structure within about 60 seconds.

This is the 2nd season in a row, practically at the same point in the season, Lambert had to tweak the D structure to have the forwards come back and help out along the boards instead of staying a step higher in the zone prepared to break out.

Lambert knew this last January too. It also was what Barry Trotz was successful with on the Islanders. Having the forwards come back and commit to playing both ends of the ice. The stuff that some folks think is too difficult an ask of the players.

Well...it hasn't worked yet.

This is when the scoring comes to a complete halt like last few years and everyone starts to ask how come they can’t score.

Yeah, when they make a switch like this it could be a couple of 2-1 losses incoming.

Also a good note on why the isles are ranked last can come from how passive they play in their own end. Compare us to a team like Vegas or Vancouver where they constantly do pressure, the isles just doze off once they go up. Its why they both go down so often in the 3rd, and blow so many leads.
Is it confirmed that Pelly is back?
Yup. He's back on the ice and skated off with the regulars. Big addition. Now we just need to see Pulock back.

What should be the difference maker is the power play. It was on a heater last month, then the guys went cold. If it heats up again it should provide the added offense you're calling for.

Really they stopped being quick with the puck. Most of the islanders recent issues with offense stems with the 2nd line being extremely lazy and not getting the same level of scoring that they did in the first few months. Palmieri, Engvall and Nelson all look cold.

I’m fine with Palms. He’s streaky and injury prone; my only two gripes with him. Think he’s good for 20-25 goals, 45 pts. Fine for a 2nd liner. He also does good work on the cycle and along the boards. He uses his body well to protect the puck and drive to the slot. Love the move, unfortunately he loses his balance half the attempts.

This roster needs D. The forward group is good enough.
The forward group is too streaky for my liking. They are either all hot or all cold. There is no consistency.

Then who do you think fills that role? Isles need wingers. Overpay for guentzel? Islanders could use him but he's another Palmieri in the making, especially if he leaves Crosby.

I don’t think Nelson’s line is lazy. Nelson has been streaky throughout his career. Probably the biggest reason a guy with a snipe like his barely makes 40 goals a year when he has a shot worthy of a 50 goal scorer. Palmieri is streaky too.

As Nelson goes so goes the 2nd line. He’s the driver.
