The good news is that Pelech is activated off of IR

the bad news is that Varlamov is now on IR

LL brings Appleby up for a few games, so that he is eligible for the PO's? IDK.

Rather than Appleby and Skarek, or an expensive vet, I would take a shot with a young goalie with potential. Someone like

Sebastian Cossa, 20, Detroit Red Wings

Surprisingly drafted ahead of Jesper Wallstedt, Sebastian Cossa is still in the running to become a solid starter in the NHL one day. In what some would call an underwhelming season in his draft-plus-one year, he led the powerhouse Edmonton Oil Kings to a WHL Championship and a Memorial Cup Final appearance but did it with inconsistent play throughout the year. He also posted the worst GAA and SV% of his WHL career finishing with a 2.28 GAA and .913 SV% in 46 appearances and lost the starting job to Dylan Garand at the 2022 WJC.

He is very young, but I would rather bring him on board and give him a glimpse of what it is all about, than play an expensive has-been, or a very good goalie (don't need the logjam).

Something has to give, and I am just using Cossa As an example of the type of goalie that I would not mind picking up. Lou likes competition and he could be good competition with Lennox.

I'm just spit-balling...

Why would we trade for Cossa

Outside of changing coaches with new ideas to work with the limited talent, there are not a lot of options. Though slightly better overall their backend talent has been overhyped on these boards and we keep investing in same group. Lou needs to face it , a swing for the fence with a huge change is needed

Matches the eye test.
Yet many here are upset that Sorokin isn’t stealing wins like he did last year. Silly. The problem is staring everyone in the face, but they had it drawn up in their heads that we should increase the offense at the expense of the defense and leave it to Soroky to bail us out this season. :shakehead

Can we bring back Doug Weight as a coach in some form? It won’t make a difference but it will help explain why the defensive systems are roller hockey-esque

Sorokin cannot keep lifting the islanders without his defense pitching in. What the hell happened to the 1-0 game against Arizona this season?

Sorry but I completely disagree with this. The eye test shows me that Sorokin has been good for at least 1-2 bad goals almost every game. I dont care if its a 93 MPH slap shot, but Tyler Myers should not be scoring on an unscreened shot from beyond the circles. That has to be stopped and every one of the writers said it too. Rosner wrote an article today with all the stats basically showing Sorokin has been average at best.
If you expect to have middle of the road goaltending this would be fine. Sorokin is being paid as an elite goalie and is expected to be one of the best in the league. There is no way anybody can tell me he has been near the top of the league this season. Every game he is allowing weak goal that "sneak by him." I am shocked at how many of you are giving him a pass. Yet Engvall making 3 million per year is the target of your ire. The standard for Sorokin should by way higher and I promise you Sorokin's lackluster play has far more to do with us losing than anything somebody like Engvall does or does not do.

Myers may have started his windup outside the circle but by the time he shot he was inside the circle - just above the faceoff dot and just inside the "danger area". All 4 goals against Sorokin were danger/high danger. One was clearly in the high danger area (lateral passes to boot). The other 2 were right on the border of danger and high danger. The team is leaving the goalies out to dry. They're giving up the kind of shots Trotz hated to give up. It's hard to believe Lambert was his assistant for so long.

So let me get this straight, you cannot look beyond a diagram that tells you what a "high danger chance" is? What if someone is in the supposed high danger area and falling down and swipes at the puck and it slides past the goalie at 40 MPH. Does that make it an acceptable goal because of where the shot was located? That is an absurd take.

This is an absurd take. We expected and paid for high end goaltending and Sorokin isn't giving it to us??? I assure you that if he weren't a duck in a shooting gallery every night his numbers would look better than they are, and if Varlamov had played more games this season his numbers would be closer to what Sorokin's are now.

Every game one weak goal sneaks by him, yet we'll forget all the high danger chances he does stop that keep every game from being a 6 or 7 goal night for the opponent? Obtuse.

Again, I disagree. I guess we are watching two different games. Sorokin has not been at the level of the past two seasons. He is being paid to be a top 5 goalie in the league. If you do not want to take my word for it, do I have to waste my time finding all of the articles from just the past few weeks alone showing the numbers that indicate how average he has been or all the tweets from our beat writers about a shot he would "like to have back" multiple times almost every game?

You think this is bad, there is a growing trade Sorokin contingent. Brainworms
